Questions & Answers

Will this saw work to cut a pipe post used for a chain link fence?

I have an chain link fence to remove. The posts are cemented in place, so instead of digging them up, I would rather just cut the post off at ground level. Will this saw work for that?
Asked by: Bobby
NO, NO, NO.... JUST WOOD mostly & similar soft materials... You need professional TOOLS to handle that kind of material (unless it's a wooden post...etc.) You can use Ryobi's rotary saw hand tool for that line of material... GOOD LUCK.... (And check-out their other line of cordless tools...there's quiet a list. !) -HartOtex- ;)

Will I be able to cut metal toilet bolts?

I am not able to use a single hack saw Blade anymore.
Asked by: onebarry
That is an unusual request...but w/ my past experience I would say possibly IN NO WAY ( w/ even the P516) and especially the P514 model that could NOT be done...would need tools w/ lot more amperage to handle "that BABY"...I promise you that & battery powered tool would do it... ;) ...GOOD LUCK...& HAVE FUN.. ;) https://www.ryobitools.com/ -HartOtex- ;)

18-Volt ONE+ Cordless Reciprocating Saw (Tool Only) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 336.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Saw & Light Enough for a Woman! This is the second Ryobi Reciprocating Saw I've owned. The first one just died on me because I used it constantly! I'm a 40-year-old female, and this saw is light enough for me to use one-handed. Of course, it may take me a couple of days using it a lot, before I get strong enough to do that! I used it with an extension ladder to trim the trees in my yard. Worked great, especially with those new tree pruning, sharktooth type blades. I would recommend this saw to anybody, but especially to the women out there that like to use tools. The 18v rechargable batteries charge quickly and last for a while. You should definitely have more than two, however, if you use these as much as I do. I have one of the combo sets in the huge case, and I use this saw and the flashlight most often. The drill and circular saw work great as well, but the circular saw eats up battery power fast! All in all, I am very satisfied with my Ryobi tools and will continue to purchase more in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little saw. I know we're talking battery powered here and very low price. I bought mine today and used it to finish tearing out a huge, over-built entertainment center today. It was a monster to take apart and built like Fort Knox. This little saw worked like a champ. I have two batteries from a prior kit, a large LI and a standard LI battery. The large lasted about an hour of heavy usage and the small, standard one about a half hour. The large charges in 45 minutes and the small in about a half hour. So, I didn't spend much time twiddling my thumbs. I've been impressed with my prior Ryobi tools and I'm impressed with this one too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from RYOBI ROCKS I purchased a RYOBI Reciprocating Saw back in 1997 after a friend of mine in the business had one. My Reciprocating Saw was NOT a RYOBI and it bit the dust after 1 year. The blades brooke all the time and I was spending money to replace them quite often. This tool died on me while I was on the job. So one of my buddies then (back in the day) said here use my RYOBI. I didn't want to give it back. I liked it so much I went out and bought a RYOBI Reciprocating Saw for myself. It is now 10/04/2009 and it just now died on me. It has lasted over 12 years! I actually had replaced ALL of my tools with the RYOBI line. It has paid for itself and I know I can count on these tools not to break down or go through blades, materials very often. It pays for itself in no time. I want everyone to know that if you want a dependable tool that is light weight, durrable, and will last many years, then use RYOBI. Thank you for having a comment line. S. Zerkel

Rated 5 out of 5 by from i still can not believe i bought this i had wanted a cheap set of cordless power tools to keep on my work truck, i go house to house in some pretty bad areas so i really did not want to spend a lot of money them in case they get stolen. i have never thought much of ryobi but this looked nice and felt nice so i decided to give this a try, i guess a certain hot and unpleasant place we all have heard has finally froze over, i cut up some scrap wood, metal and pvc just to get a feel for this machine and i am very impressed and this never made it to my truck, i am very impressed with the quality, comfort and price of this tool.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great tool for a DIY'er Just bought one of these to tear up some old wood pallets. While I like that it's cordless, along with other Ryobi tools I have, it's really an occasional use reciprocating saw due to the short battery life. I was able to cut the nails down on 1 1/2 pallets before needing to re-charge. Yes, the battery can be charged in 30 minutes but if you're using this saw for a large project and need constant power, I'd go with a corded saw. I found that the blade kept coming out of the saw and either got stuck in the wood or fell on the ground. I've used other saws in the past and never had that problem. Maybe this is just me, but I wish the lock-off button was a tiny bit lower. I found it awkward to hold sometimes. I have small hands so that could be why I struggled a little. All in all, I'd recommend it to a DIY'er who would use it for various projects. It's a good price if you already have the 18-volt-one battery from other Ryobi tools.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great saw, lots of power This saw does what it is supposed to do....... it cuts stuff. Lots of stuff. And it cuts it well! There is no shortage of power in this saw, although I prefer to use the P108 4ah batteries for that extra oomph they give tools. I've had no issues cutting wood, metal, pruning trees, or doing demolition with this saw. The anit vibration handle actually works to soften the impact of repetitive use, and you can clearly tell a difference between this saw, and the cheaper version included in the kits. For the best cuts, I like to use Diablo blades. They cost a bit more than others, but the combination of this saw and diablo blades makes an excellent pair.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Remarkably, a Job Site Worthy Tool 100% Working on demolition of a small warehouse, I needed a Reciprocating Saw in a hurry. I went to the local HD and looked at a few and bought this one because of the price. I half expected to have to take advantage of the warranty, but after two weeks and a few dozen blades this thing was still going strong. We were cutting, wood studs, drywall, conduit, and metal piping. overall, a few things i liked about it; alot of cutting was overhead, and the weight was nice and manageable. The blade change is super easy, and it survived a few drops from about 12'. the only gripe i really had at all was it drinks batteries fast. Be sure to have more than on battery ready to go, it drains the standard battery down pretty quick.
