Questions & Answers

Does the sanding attachment use loop and pile? If not, what?

Asked by: Nimbo
Best deal for the replacement sanding pads is harbor freight. Pack of six is very inexpensive there.

Does it have the quick change trigger or do you have to use an Allen wrench to remove the blades?

Asked by: David
To add to AtlantaDan's post. Look for the Ridgid Quick Change Head by searching for JobMax 18-Volt Tool-Free Multi-Tool Head (Tool Only) Model # R8223406B Internet #206189943 Store SO SKU #1001411666 at homedepot.com. Obviously you'll have to order it, but it'll get there relatively quick.

Where can I purchase the additional attachments for this item like the jig saw attachment?

Where can I purchase the additional attachments for this item like the jig saw attachment?
Asked by: Tblaque
This, like any 'TOOL ONLY' item IS the accessory and you must have a battery and charger from a separate purchase to have a complete working tool. Other tools such as the jigsaw, circular saw, etc. can probably be purchased only at Home Depot stores and on line. Ryobi is a consumer grade line of tools made only for Home Depot by the same Chinese company that makes Milwaukee Tool and Ridgid brand tools. For occasional home use they perform well and the variety of tools within the system is large. Actual accessories for each tool would be items such as the various blades which are usually fairly standard and available at most hardware stores and tool centers.

can the multi tool side cut ie can flush cut blade mount 90 degrees

can the multi tool side cut ie can flush cut blade mount 90 degrees
Asked by: Handyman
If I understand your question correctly, you are asking if you can turn the blade 90 degrees. The answer would be no you cannot. You can, however, turn the entire tool 90 degrees (vertical cut instead of a horizontal one to the material being cut.) Based on using this tool, I was able to cut a nice rectangular hole for installing an electrical box. Two horizontal cuts and then two verticals. I hope this helps you decide. This is a very easy to use tool for a variety of tasks. Good luck and don't forget your safety glasses.

18-Volt ONE+ JobPlus Base with Multi-Tool Attachment (Tool-Only) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 898.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from I love the design of this tool. Being able to attach the various heads in different positions is ... I love the design of this tool. Being able to attach the various heads in different positions is great, and the oscillating head is much narrower than ones with tool less blade attachments, BUT(!) the motor, or more precisely, the motor bearings are wayyyyyyy sub-standard. After only a couple of hours use, the tool started to make a racket. I took the oscillating head off, and checked. The pinion was wiggling from left to right. Since the tool was now useless, (after only a couple of hours) I took it apart, and my suspicion was confirmed (photos). The axle is nowhere close to being centered, the armature actually RUBS against the magnets(!) due to the worn-out bearing. Obviously the wrong bearing material was used. I will wait for Ryobi to come out with a brush-less version of this, because, as I said, the design is otherwise excellent, but until then I'll use a different make. I can't fathom how Ryobi could release the tool with this, obvious flaw. At $69.00 for the bare tool, one would expect more than two hours of use!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantasic Power I've been looking at buying a multitool for awhile now and saw this at HD yesterday afternoon. Only one on the shelf and the associate opened it for me and we compared it to the other brands on the shelves for both power and accessories. With the included adapter you can use most of the competitors' accessories. Needless to say I bought it. When I got home I put it to work just for some fun. With the two blades included I cut through 1/2 inch plywood and some drywall scraps. When cutting through the plywood I also cut through several small finish nails and the drywall samples included some DW screws that were also cut through. I did not try out the sanding head because I am sure that it is very good for detail work. This is a great tool and it fits right into my shop along with the other 16 Ryobi +One tools that I have and use often. Having to keep just one kind of battery around is great. Ryobi tools make about 75% of the power tools in my shop and I am please with all of them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely useful tool In the first year alone, I used this tool for: Mortising for door knob-set installations (1" blade). Scraped out thin set for replacement of broken tiles. Scraped out mortar for replacement of soap dishes. Removed hardened caulking. Undercut doorjambs for flooring installation. Notched out baseboard to allow large cabinet to slide back flush to wall. Undercut window trim to install thicker sill stools. Shaved off glued dowels holding an unneeded shelf in place. Cut numerous drywall openings, particularly irregularly shaped openings. Removed many metal burrs from sliding glass doors, etc. Created easy "decorative" notches in homemade wooden patio plant stands. Planed off parts of numerous 1x2's and 2x2's. Sanded inside corners of various drawers and piano benches. Removed grout completely and removed only surface of grout (cleaning). Re-grooved several flathead screw slots on old, large screws. "Carved" out melted candle wax from fixtures. Shaped up splintering in old picture frames. Removed section of metal gutter downspout

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great tool, BUT... This a great and very versatile tool. I have loved using it for everything from cutting through sheetrock to install a cut-in electrical box, to cutting the corroded bolts off a toilet tank. I also purchased a right-angle drill attachment head for it and like being able to drill or drive screws in tight spaces that my regular drill/driver won't fit. BUT... I have gone through 2 of these now. They last about a year and then the contact tabs in the battery well break off, and it just quits in the middle of a job! It has a 2 year warranty, but I hate being without this very handy tool day to day on the jobsite while having to wait for shipping each way. So for light, occasional use it might be fine. But for daily use by a contractor I wouldn't recommend it. I'm going to attach a picture so you can see what I mean about the tabs breaking off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just love this tool! I was having a bear of a time with several hundred feet of caulking i need to remove to get access in to where I need to do termite repairs.. Its really good 13 year old caulking and tougher then trying to get through by every way that ive tried.. Picked up this tool not even thinking about that job.. I picked up a flexi scrapping blade and noticed it said caulking on it so gave it a try and it goes through it like butter, huge time and sweat saver!!!! Only down side I see with this is the battery from my cheapo driver/drill does not fit real well.. Its hard to put in but comes out easy. In the past ive had the opposite problem and way worse with a different driver... I can live with this and assume the better batteries prob dont have this issue.. I thought i was shorted the universal adapter,, but its under where the bat goes stored in a good place... How did I live without this thing is my take.. for pro work I do think id go for a more stout unit but for occasional usage this thing is great....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Tool. Why Did I Wait So Long To Get It? Purchased this because I had to cut out some 3/4" plywood in my attic floor under my air conditioning unit and didn't have the room for a regular saw. My gosh, this thing went through that plywood easily after I realized I needed to make a first pass of about 1/4" deep and then follow with two more passes. Used it recently to install new air registers in the ceiling and a switch box in the wall. With the half moon sheetrock cutter, it was easily the best thing I've used to cut a clean rectangular hole in sheetrock. Only complaint is I wish there was a location on the tool for storing the allen wrench to change the tool (cutter) on the end.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very versatile in helping my son build his tool arsenal a while back, i encouraged him to get a multi-tool. i have owned a corded Bosch multi-tool for some time & when you need one, you NEED one. he already had some Ryobi 18v tools, so this unit was a no-brainer for him. we got it & used the heck out of it working on the new home he had purchased. speed forward to now - my Bosch's tool head started breaking apart, so i went right out & got my own Ryobi to compliment the boatload of 18v One+ tools that i own & use. i haven't had to use my new one yet, but after using my son's, i know what i have & that is another very good home-owner quality tool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You don't know you need it, until you NEED IT This is one of those tools that you don't know you need, until a specific application comes up. I recently needed to cut some holes in a deck to place uprights for a roof. Since the deck boards were already installed using the special clips needed (Trex brand decking) it was impossible to easily remove the boards. This tool came to the rescue, allowing me to cut straight down in to the deck boards easily. I was able to cut the exact hole size I needed without damaging the surrounding area. What a relief. Although the blades can be a bit pricey, they do tend to last quite a while. I actually ordered a whole set of blades from an internet auction site so that I could try out the tool in lots of different settings. So far I've been able to easily cut drywall to install electrical boxes, make the cuts in the deck for the uprights, cut apart glue joints in furniture during rework, and remove grout that needed to be replaced. I haven't even tried the other heads that are available, but can't wait until I get the chance!
