Questions & Answers

Would I be able to build a deck with this gun?

Asked by: Mg
Would this gun work for nailing a tongue and grove ceiling under my patio cover? It would be going through 1 inch thick tongue and grove pine wood and it would be attached to the pine beams holding up the patio roof.

Is this tool good for installing quarter round?

Asked by: Buzz
Yes, it's perfect for that. You will probably have to caulk the holes a bit and touch up paint. If it's a dark colored quarter round, you may be able to get away with just shooting it down.

does it come with the battery & charger? if not how much are they

Asked by: Doglover
Ryobi and other companies always improve battery technolology. I bought this a couple years ago and batteries then didn't have LED gauges. Now they do. As long as they make them ONE+, it'll work. I hope Ryobi never changes the designs of the battery where we'd have to get all new tools and chargers

Can it use regular Ryobi 18v battery?

Asked by: SC123
Hi SC123. Yes, you could use any Ryobi 18 volt battery. Thanks for the question.

18-Volt ONE+ Lithium-Ion Cordless AirStrike 18-Gauge Brad Nailer (Tool-Only) with Sample Nails is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 2395.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Tool - but Inconsistent functionality Bought several weeks ago. Put down a couple hundred feet of pine and oak shoe and was very pleased. Once I figured out exactly how to place the brads in the supply channel, that is. Tip: set the toe of the brad at the very bottom of the channel. The problems started when I pulled it out of the (hint: very cold) garage today to finish a couple of pieces. Started getting a cycle or a partial cycle and no firing. Changed battery; reloaded brads - no dice. Then I did the trouble-shooting no-no and changed 2 more things (put the gun over a heat duct and oiled the nose channel) and it started working again. When I was oiling the nose (air tool oil) and testing it, I noticed that the nose also almost seems to have two levels of depression - so make sure you push it all the way down when firing. I would like this tool to work for me (as a DIYer)....but if I needed it for my work jobs I'm not sure that I would want to be depending on it.

I love the fine adjustments it has; both an air strength and a depth adjuster. the depth adjuster is for fine tuning the plunge depth of the brad. it is a bit on the heavy side with a larger battery (4 Ah) but lighter than some other tools and not having to wrestle with an air cord makes up for that. I love the LEDs that light up the workspace. they double as a low battery and low nail indicator too (it wont fire with less than 6 nails in the gun). the one con i do have is that it seemed to jam every 10 or 12 nails. not jam really, more of a mis-feed of the nails. I suspect that it was more from the cheaper nails i was using than the tool itself.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from seriously disappointed I recieved this as a Christmas present and was excited to try it out. at first, the nails wouldn't shoot or wouldn't go all the way in. no problem, read the I instructions adjusted what needed to be adjusted and problem was solved. or, so I thought. next project, bust out my nail gun and same issue, won't shoot. I have to open the feed blow and place nail back in. twist the depth gauge a few times and adjust the pressure and bam. shoots a nail. use it for a quick couple of tie in, place it off to the side for a minute or two, grab it and try to shoot a nail in somethi g and what do you know, doesn't shoot a nail, again. mess with it again and go to shoot a nail and this time it shoots, but the nail only goes halfway in. Been doing this since Christmas. I finally had enough and called ryobi to only be told that its user error? asked how to resolve my issue then and was told, "read the instructions. Well, ryobi, I think you just sold me on a rigid nailer. thanks.

I've researched all the cordless nailers available on the web from the m18 series, to the 16ga up to the 23 ga nailers. Almost all of them had mixed reviews, ranging from not enough power to not being all that useful for day to day use. This specific 18 ga nailer was not only the best reviewed out of all of them but it was also the most useful. I used this to do an entire house's baseboard and casings and it didn't jam once. It also was able to sink 99% of the nails flush without adjustment. The 1% it couldn't do were due to me needing an angled nailer, which I just bypassed and used a small hammer to get those nails the rest of the way in. I had to change the battery 3 times throughout the whole house with the 1.3A battery. Changing to a 3A would have allowed me to do the whole house on one charge. Extremely impressive. I had borrowed this initially.. now I own it!

I love this tool! Yes, it's not a "high end" brand name, but we've had a few tools from Ryobi and theyve been fine. Mostly sawzalls and circular saws. I wouldn't get drills from them, though. I work in property management and real estate, so when doing flooring or trims, this is a must. I absolutely hate those heavy, noisy compressors and those long hoses. They are necessary if you need to need a framing nailer, which I don't. I was able to make a 200 sq foot family room look amazing with nicely installed baseboards. It shoots 5/8th inch to 2.5 inch brad nails which is awesome. I can get away with not having a finish nailer since I don't work with things that are too delicate. Again, this is only for trims and baseboards type items. It is not made to hold weight, so don't use it to secure 2x4s. I bought the battery and charger kit, but wish the battery had lights on it to tell me how much I have left.

It would cycle (audibly) but it would not shoot a nail. I read thru the manual completely and tried a number of different things with it, to try to get it to function. No go = so I returned it to a local HD and exchanged it for another one. The second nailer worked flawlessly with no issues what so ever, ***** 5 STARS **** +++ AAA +++ I am a 52 year old state licensed General Contractor and carpenter with a crew of workers. I own 50 + pneumatic nailers and paslode hoseless nail guns. Those other nail guns get heavy use and abuse (including drops off of staging from 10' up). This little nailer was bought for light use around my own personal house, and it serves its purpose well = as a home-owner's nailer that can tackle any DIY trim and light carpentry project. I am very impressed with this little tool for what it is and what it can do (but my workers would have it destroyed in a matter of weeks). I would recommend this to any home owner. Its a great little must have tool for you DIYers. (Pictures are of my chicken coop. I used the nailer to install some addition winter trim boards on it)

Sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it will shoot a dozen brads in a row ... and then just quits. Yes the battery is charged. No there isn't a blockage. Leave it alone for a day, come back and it might work or it might not. Hard to recommend it when it acts like this. When it works, it's great. But when you're in the middle of a project and it stops for no reason that I can tell, I have to admit that I curse this tool. It's been this way from day one.

I've used Ryobi and Porter Cable Nailers out in my workshop (because that's where my compressor is) and found that using them elsewhere, requires moving the compressor and hoses as well... My youngest daughter, who is always building small projects, wanted a nailgun for her 31st birthday.. Being that she shares a house with her Aunt, I saw this on the HD website.. went to the store and picked it up on sale! when she opened the gift, she said "don't I need one of those noisy compressors???" We loaded it up with some nails. slapped in one of the 18+ batteries that she uses with her Ryobi drill, and it worked great! She gave me a hug and told me this was one of the best presents ever!
