It says it takes 180 minutes to charge. Is that true?

It says it takes 180 minutes to charge. Is that true?
Asked by: Carl
I just wanted to make one little correction here. Amps are current flow i.e. one coulomb of charge per second. Volts is a measure of electrical pressure i.e. how much force is moving an electron from one place to another. An amp hour is how many amps a battery can deliver for one hour with no loss of amperage or voltage. So in theory these could deliver Nine amps of current at 18 volts for one hour before the voltage (electrical pressure) or Amperage (Rate of electron flow) dropped. It's pretty much the most accurate way to gauge a battery for overall capacity but actual capacity varies based on how its used try to draw more than 9 amps and you'll get far less than an hour. Use less than 9 amps and you'll probably actually get much more than 9 amps out of the battery.

I have a charger, does the 9 ah require an upgraded charging unit?

Asked by: M1
No! Ryobi designed the larger batteries with an AH rating to recharge in a common charger. The larger the AH the longer the battery will take to attain a FULL charge but that's to be expected as the larger the AH the longer the battery will last. Also, the larger the AH the stronger the battery which equates to less time to finish the job. Enjoy!! Bob 13425

does this 9 amp take 3 hours to charge? did they come up with a faster charger, it is really LAME in charging time, that is what puts me off from buying

I’m not 100% sure but I think it was somewhere around 2 - 2 1/2 hrs to fully charge from dead. This battery lasts about 1 full hour in my leaf blower which is all I needed but it makes the motor a ton faster with more power. It is kinda bulky and heavy also but if you want power in your tools this is the way to go

Will these 9.0ah batteries fit in Ryobi’s 16” lawn mower, which normally has two 4.0ah batteries placed quite close to each other?

Asked by: wtw18
These do not fit in the Ryobi lawn mower. I have the Ryobi 16" cordless mower. I also have several 3.0, 4.0, 6.0, and 9.0 batteries. While it is true that they have the same post, width, and length as all other 18 volt, one plus batteries, they are "taller". The batteries in the mower stack. If you put anything bigger than a 4.0 in the lower battery slot, the post on the upper battery can not drop into its port, no matter which version it is. Conversly, if you put a 4.0 or smaller in the lower port, you can put a 6.0 or a 9.0 in the upper port, however the cover that lowers over the batteries, will not close. All my cordless power tools are Ryobi. I love the 6.0 and 9.0 batteries, as they work in all my other tools, and I can tell the difference in power when I use them. That being said, the above responses are incorrect, or they have a newer version of the lawn mower than I have, as my 6.0 and 9.0, most assuredly do not work in my one plus mower..

Compared to the 4ah batteries they are about 2/3s as big again but the weight is what is really the impact. I bought these to go along with the Stick Vacuum which all the reviews said would suck a 4ah dry in 20-30 mins. The weight of the battery is noticeable but not horrible because of how you generally carry the stick. If you use it for long periods of time it will feel heavy. These batteries are really made for non carried tools. Those that will sit on a bench or the ground. They are not for hand held tools. If you want your drill to last all day by a couple of 2ah batteries. I can see these being usable for Fans, Shop Vac, Mower, Miter saw and other tools that support the weight of the battery themselves. The pricing when I bought them was bizarre. 1 Battery was $79, A 2 Pack was $249 and the 4 pack was $259. This indicates they don't intend to sell any 2 packs as everyone would just by 2 singles. No one would by 3 as that would cost the same as 4.

Yes, these are big batteries which take a long time to charge (each took approximately 2.5-3 hours), and yes, they are heavy, but if you want power that will go longer than you will, these are the batteries to get! I use mine in lights (both spotlight and area lights), fans, radios, and they're great for the new power inverter, but their weight makes it tiring to carry for long periods. They're probably too heavy for long term lifting of common tools such as circular saws, drills, and anything you'd lift by hand and carry. For these jobs, I wouldn't go any higher than the 6Ah batteries. Just my 2 cents...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ryobi Hit a Home Run! It was always a problem with my Ryobi tools, they just could not keep working for the day without a couple of spare batteries standing by. I must admit that as a retired contractor when I go to work I expect my tools to outlast me these days. When Ryobi finally came out with this 9ah battery my Ryobi Tools found their way back to the first tool I reach for! Even though my Ryobi collection is of the brushed generation of battery tools, they now preform! Compared to the Gen 2-3 or4 tools put out by the other manufacturers my Gen 1 Ryobi tools can get the job done at or better speeds than the other manufacturers are putting out. NO I HAVE NOT COMPARED THEM WITH A STOP WATCH, but the saws, drivers and impacts get the job done better than they were able to, with the older batteries. Ryobi has hit a home run by putting out the battery their tools were waiting for! You can't go wrong plugging this 9ah battery into your Ryobi tools. You will think they were new again, and in some cases you will find they can do those jobs you thought only a corded tool could complete.

I also have found that my original blue chain saw will run 10 times longer than it did with the old NiCD. This is with a 20 year old tool. Weight is heavy, but it feels lighter than I had anticipated. All the tools I have used with this battery still feel adequately balanced. I will still use my smaller packs for drilling a hole or two. Battery is expensive unless you purchase a promotional package that seem to be coming out more often. Still no stock in the Home Depot stores

They are a bit heavier than the 4ah model, but that is a fair trade off for the additional power. It takes about 3 hours to charge one from a fully discharged state, too. Once charged though you will have plenty of power available for big projects and will not be changing out batteries very often. I highly recommend getting these batteries.

For me this is just AWESOME! 2 things....I have three pecan trees - and I live in Hurricane country (NC). I have 1.5 amperes, 4 amperes, and 6 ampere RYOBI Batteries. They do the job. When the leaves fall down and need to be raked up - no more manual stuff. Ryobi Leaf Blowers come into play - on a 1/2 acre it takes awhile... as a battery draws down to naught, then you just slap in another. With a 2-pack of 9-amperes I only need two of these batteries to complete the back yard - it's awesome! Got hit with hurricane Florence (Sept 2018) - I had 14 different Ryobi 18 Volt+-One batteries charged up prior to being hit. Lost power for 5 days - always had a Ryobi Radio going and ALWAYS had a Ryobi Fan keeping me cooled. The 9-amperes paid for themselves during that 5 day period!.

Used the same battery about 6 times in a month for small projects without recharging battery.Used in the older Blue Cordless 3/8 in. Drill/Driver, Cordless 3/8 in. Right Angle Drill, Cordless Reciprocating Saw, and the new Cordless Pole Saw.
