Answer

Hi Elmac511. The instructions are under the loading caulk section in the owner's manual. Here is how: OPERATION LOADING CAULK See Figures 3 - 4, page 9.  Lock the switch trigger by sliding the switch lock up.  Using a utility knife, cut off the tip of the spout on a standard 10 oz. tube of caulk. Cut the tip at a 45˚ angle. Remove as little as possible, taking into consideration the size of the “bead” of caulk you need.  Check for a second inner seal at the base of the spout. If found, insert the puncture tool inside the spout to break the seal before using. If using a partially filled tube, use the puncture tool to remove any hardened material from the tip. NOTE: An inner seal is usually found only in cardboard caulk tubes.  While holding the caulk gun steady with one hand, pull the handle of the plunger rod away from the caulk gun. Continue pulling until plunger base reaches the back of the carriage frame.  Load the caulk tube into the carriage frame, making sure it is well seated at both ends. Hope this helps!

Only good for silicone
Customer review from homedepot.ca logo
I bought this gun to be used during a house remodel job. While using it with silicone it worked fairly okay. Once we used adhesive the unit fairly hard on us and bent that we couldn't use it anymore and only two weeks after use. I am a Ryobi fan and have approx 10-15 tools from them, but will advise everyone to steer away from this flawed product.

Old generation caulking gun is impressive!
Customer review from ryobitools.com logo
I have had it for over 7 years now and it is one of my most used tools in my remodeling business as well as at home for my own personal use. I can say there is a downside, it is significantly heavier than manual caulking guns (duh!) BUT I could never get such a consistent bead for the long stretches that I currently do. Even though it's an old gen tool, the new batteries work with it and works like its brand new.

A joy on the hands
Customer review from ryobitools.com logo
I bought this to save my hands. My hands have developed arthritis in both thumbs and using a conventional manual caulking gun for anything other than a few minutes would cause alot of discomfort. This power caulking gun solves that problem. It's a wonder to use with no fatigue on the hands. The trigger lock takes a bit of getting use to . I would recommend this to anyone who needs a caulking gun.

Keeps bursting tubes
I've attached an image of what I mean. This is the third tube of exterior caulk that this tool broke. I cleaned it up the first couple times and tried to give it one more chance, but at this point it's just not worth the hassle.

efficient but heavy
This saved my wrist from a week of cramping. It was however much heavier than I’d expected. I am not a pro, so my need for it ended quikly. I did not use to apply self leveling caulk, as i wanted more control. The dial did on lowest level was even difficult to keep up with. The rubberized casing also scratched very easily
