A:  I've never had to use a strap, and not sure it would help at all.

A:  Because you have to buy the strap separately that cost maybe 5 or 10 dollars

A:  It does have a little weight to it. If you’re trimming for long periods of time I can see adding a strap.

A:  I use 0.095 diameter, or whatever Ryobi recommends

A:  You can purchase spools of trim line made for the Ryobi . Or pick a spool of trim line and rewind the spool that came with the trimmer, sometimes  tricky as the line must go on evenly and in the proper direction (noted on the spool)

A:  It uses a 0.80" line. Of course you can buy aftermarket versions.

A:  It does not come with a cord. The receptacle is 2 prong but 14 gauge cords comes with a 3 prong on the other end. It’s works great and don’t think I would buy another gas trimmer..

A:  Hello, Tommy - Thank you for your interest in the 18 in. 10 Amp Attachment Capable Electric String Trimmer. To reduce the risk of electric shock, this tool has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other) and will require the use of a polarized extension cord. The plug will fit into a polarized extension cord only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the extension cord, reverse the plug. If the plug still does not fit, obtain a correct polarized extension cord. A polarized extension cord will require the use of a polarized wall outlet. This plug will fit into the polarized wall outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the wall outlet, reverse the plug. If the plug still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install the proper wall outlet. Use outdoor extension cords marked W-A, W, SW-A, SOW-A, STW-A, STOW-A, SJW-A, SJTW-A, or SJTOW-A. These cords are rated for outdoor use. When using an extension cord, be sure to use one heavy enough to carry the current your product will draw. A wire gauge size (A.W.G.) of at least 14 is recommended for an extension cord 50 feet or less in length. A cord exceeding 100 feet is not recommended. If in doubt, use the next heavier gauge. The smaller the gauge number, the heavier the cord. An undersized cord will cause a drop in line voltage resulting in loss of power and overheating.  Additionally, if you need further support, then a RYOBI Customer Experience Professional is here for you, Monday - Friday from 9 am to 6 pm (EST) when you call or text us at 1.800.525.2579 or through email or live chat when you visit us at https://www.ryobitools.com/support/contact. One fix and it's ready to rip!
Read a review about a serious weakness at the joint in the shaft. Lo and behold it arrived used (lightly) and was already bent and ready to break at that joint! Sent it back. But I like the price,10amps and "bump" line feed better than other "cheap corded" B&D/Homelite, so bought again, improvised a fix with one 12" section of angle iron and four 1&1/16" hose clamps to significantly stiffen the joint. Works great. Got parts from hw store. See pics.

so far so good. my gas stihl weed eater blew up a week prior to ordering this. so my grass was 18" this trimmer had plenty of power to blow through it. tap to feed like most trimmers works well. cuts through plants and tall grass. glad I don't need to mess with two stroke again.

Had the older model for many years for hedge trimming work, it finally gave out. Got this new model along with the Add-On 22 in. Articulating Hedge Trimmer Attachment and an Extension Pole. Together I can reach the tallest bushes in my yard without having to get on a ladder. The weight of the unit is comparable to my 2 stroke gas Troy-Bilt model, and provides more power that the earlier electric model - the trimmer cut through tough vines and thicker branches just as well as when using the gas model. Much quieter so I can do yard work w/o bothering any neighbors, or inhaling those wonderful oiled up carbon monox fumes - bleah. Be sure to get the big 12/3 15 amp power cord and of course, be mindful of where the cord is at all times - don't be a fool and cut that cord. Even if you do, the handles and grip on the unit will prevent the current from coming back up and into contact with you. You'll be amazed at how 15 amps will weld the copper conductors inside the power cord together, after a bright spark and that bzzzt sound that wakes you right up. Just splice the cord back together with the big yellow electrical crimps over in the electrical department and tape it over up with the black vinyl tape. Pick up a small flat file from tools in order to file the spot welded parts of the trimmer blade flat again and you're back in business. Yep that's from personal experience :-). I got about 20 years out of the old Ryobi model, so we will see how far this one goes. It spins up that trimmer blade quickly and gave me no surprises. Be sure to get a bottle of 3-in-1 oil and dribble it into the blade edge while the trimmer is orientated vertically before each use. Getting the oil into the spaces where the movable blade slides in and out will lengthen it's lifespan considerably. Kind of like how K-Y Jelly makes everything better for the other tool if you catch my drift. Regards, SpecialK

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been using them for 3 years to clear 200 feet from my house in fire country. The part I like the best is there is no vibration and my old gasoline trimmer would make my wrist hurt. I could only use it for 45 minutes. The Ryobi does not cause any vibration. Also there is 1/10 of the noise. I use 4 50 foot #12 wire extension cords. I also have solar and so the power is almost free and I do not have to worry about starting a fire with gasoline and hot exhaust.

I recommend this trimmer with reservations. I had to return the first trimmer as there was a small piece of metal in one of the poles that would not allow the other pole to be inserted far enough in to connect to each other. I reordered a second trimmer and was able to assemble it without an issue. Plugged it in, turned it on and the "power head" would not engage. Hmmm! Disconnected and reconnected the unit a few times and got the head to work. We'll see if it continues. The unit is a little heavy, compared to battery powered units, and the electrical connection is not designed for a three-pronged extension cord, but neither of these were significant issues.THAT being said, the trimmer is very powerful and made quick work of my overgrown lawn. I purchased this unit to get away from the batteries that fail over time. If Ryobi would improve their quality control, I would rate this product 4 stars but here I give it a 2 for lack of quality control.
