Mine was stable just sitting on the bench. might depend on the pressure you place on it but I had no problem grinding. it's pretty heavy, and hi speed so you shouldn't need to push it at all.

Good grinder for the price
Good grinder for casual use. I got tired of seeing old used bench grinders on line for more money. I switched out one of the wheels for a wire brush and it works well. There was vibration as the cheaper wheels are not fully balanced....you can see the slight wobble as they spin. I got the vibration down by watching videos on YouTube on how to balance your grinder.....it’s not bad now but you can always buy a premium balance wheel if you want.($$$) For the money, it does everything I want and doesn’t take up a lot of room on my bench.

Perfect for small jobs
I set-up the bench grinder right away. Out of the box, I had one small issue though, one of the protection shields was cracked at the mounting point so I could not mount it. I also immediately swapped out a wire wheel for the fine stone wheel to use. Once I got it up and running, it was great. A few slow downs if I pressed in hard on something hard but overall, decent power. I had yet to mount the grinder to the bench yet so the vibration was a little much. I am sure that is from a combination of it not being secured to the work bench along with the non-Ryobi wire wheel on the opposite side of the coarse stone wheel. Overall - very happy - I am rebuilding an old snow blower and use it often to clean-up parts. Also, I have a support ticket in to get the protection shield replaced but have not gotten a response yet.

This is a pretty cheap grinder, both in price and quality, but it performs well enough to make it worth the money IMO. The base is thin stamped metal, so thin that I was concerned that tightening the screws down too much might cave the mounting holes in. When you go to take off either of the grinding wheels, you'll be met with metal shavings left over from when the shaft was turned. Also, the plastic shield setup is fairly low-quality and will likely not last unless you're particularly careful about using it. Plus, battery-powered LED lights on a plug-in grinder...??? The wheels were both reasonably well balanced out of the box. Slight vibration at ~half RPM on spin-up, but once it go going I didn't need to do much to balance anything. The bottom does have rubber feet to mitigate vibration also. I've been able to run a 6" wire wheel and buffing pad on this without an issue, just keep in mind this is meant for light-to-medium-duty work... you're going to be disappointed trying to apply heavy pressure for bulk material removal... use an angle grinder and finish with this for precision. I've been happy with my Ryobi corded tools thus far, and am happy with this as well. For those looking at the Harbor Freight alternatives around the same price, they're a toss-up, but I prefer the standard 3yr warranty offered by Ryobi.

Had high expectations for this 6" bench grinder, but am sadly disappointed, will be returning it. After firmly mounting to a heavy bench used for blacksmith work, it vibrated so badly that one spark shield would not stay in position and vibrated down toward the fine grit wheel mounted on the right. The two reasons for this are: 1.) the brand new included fine grit wheel from the factory is out of round, and 2.)the spark shield assembly is totally different from the "good" one on the left, i.e. the plastic arms holding the shield are flimsy and do not have the radial grooves to match the clamping screw which are on the "good" one and function to hold the shield in place over the wheel. Could not be run for more than a few seconds before vibrating down into the wheel. This part appears to be an earlier, discontinued one replaced by the "good" functional one, and picked out, packaged, and shipped with my purchase. The out of round wheel is just bad quality control. Very disappointing to receive this unit from Ryobi with such poor quality control.

this has the worst quality control i have ever seen, the first one the little rubber feet fell off and the tool rests bent right out of the box. i returned it and got a second one and the guard that covers the wheel and has the mount for the tool rest wasn't put on right and not even a little off one was looking up 10 degrees and the other down. and again the wheels got a horrible wobble to them the second one looks like it might have something wrong with the flange as well. but at least they put the sticker on straight.

Cracked after an hour of use
I love Ryobi products in general, and really wanted to like this little grinder. It would have been perfect for my needs. I used it for an hour, the metal around one wheel got so hot it cracked, vibrating the entire unit. I will be returning it.
