Questions & Answers

Is it enought for a refrigerator?

Asked by: Maritza
yes, most people's refrigerators only use about 600 watts or so to run the compressor. The newer ones use even less. The mini fridges use the least. When the compressor starts up, it momentarily peaks at around 1500 watts or so for the average refrigerator, so it can be easily handled by this generator. When the refrigerator senses that it is cold enough then it will shut off the compressor and then it will not be using any power except when it is defrosting automatically to keep it ice free.

What kind of extension cord this uses?

wrm1212 -- If you need ONLY 25ft get this - https://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-25-ft-12-3-Extension-Cord-74025RGD/203736186 If you need longer than 25ft, get this 50 foot cord - https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-50-ft-12-3-SJTW-Extension-Cord-with-Standard-Plug-747-123050H31/205377752 Both of these are probably larger than necessary, but in electrical wiring "stuff", you always go larger. Going smaller could cause problems. Both items are probably available at your local Home Depot and they have quite a number of other types/brands on-line.

Can I use it for refrigerator and light at the same time

Asked by: Dolo
Yes. I ran our big fridge, and it could easily handle a light too. Just plug the fridge in first and let it run a few minutes (there is an initial drain on the motor) prior to plugging in any secondary items. There are also several Common Appliance Household Wattage Charts online if you want to calculate how much you need.

The only reason I am giving this is a four star, is that I am comparing it to a Honda which I have previously owned and was a bit quieter. But with the sale price being almost 1/3 of a new, honda, I don't mind the couple extra decibels. It's still quiet. I have used this for three weekends now to power my ice house in MN. It has performed flawlessly. It does take 4-5 pulls to start, but that doesn't really bother me. With my honda eu2000, my tv and lights would flicker off when I first turned my 1450 watt pizza oven on. the extra wattage of the Ryobi has eliminated this issue. I am also very pleased with the gas usage. I can get at least 10 hours on a tank as long as I don't run the pizza oven. This allows me to sleep all night and not have to refuel at 4-5 in the morning in below zero temps. My son used it last weekend in -10 temps with no issues. This weekend it is predicted to be -20. We will see if it's up for the challenge. Time will tell if it is as dependable as the honda.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little generator So far so good. I bought this after hurricane Irma. I have not lost power since but I have been practicing for when I do. I have a total of 26 hours run time so far, usually 3 or 4 hours at a time. I usually run a 19 cubic ft fridge, 40 inch led tv and cable box, a 20 inch box fan and a floor lamp, basic things needed during a power outage. This generator runs these things for 4 hours using 1.5 qts of gas. I also test ran a 7000 btu portable ac with no problems. It ran 3 hrs on 2 qts of gas. I changed the oil at 2 hrs and 11 hrs just to drain any possible break in metal shavings. I will probably keep practicing until 50 hrs of run time and then put in a monthly 4 hr run. The wheels and handle make this thing like a suit case however it is well balanced if you want to pick it up and carry it. Doesn’t make much noise, you know it is running in the back ground but it doesn’t interfere with conversation or the tv. Great little machine. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Ryobi well engineered compact light unit that for any homeowner would be sufficient for average use. Received it in a very well packaged box. Instructions for startup was very simple and clear. The manual answers all questions you may have. Setup time was about 25 minutes.Initial trail run time was 1 hour. The next day it started very easily and ran unit for 4 1/2 hrs.,off for 30 minutes, then ran for 2 hrs. It will easily take loads of (2) circular saws. at the same time. Tested it with a 10" miter saw cutting flooring. The unit could not take the added load of a small compressor when the miter saw was running, but could run either singularly. The overload reset button is a nice feature. The maintance features are owner friendly; oil drain port in a good location, the carburator is easy to get at too. Air filter accessable and the fuel can be removed from the tank when storing the unit with no difficulity.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I hate this thing! I own a mobile detailing company and bought this on sale for $400.00 in August 2018. Since the day I got it, it has been nothing but trouble. It never starts within the first three pulls. The rubber feet vibrated off during the first use. An hour and a half into that same day it shut off and continues to due so during almost every use. I ran a fuel treatment through it and that helped a little, but it continues to shut off after about 1-2 hours of continued use. Now, yesterday during a job it shut off and when I went to restart it, the pull cord had stripped internally. I will say when it runs, it IS quiet. I’ll call HD about the warrenty, but am sure I will get the runaround from them. I would put this money towards a more reliable brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powered my 10000 btu AC I was a little worried at first, when it started it was blowing smoke, but the rings just needed to be seated that's all. I hooked up my 10000 BTU portable AC unit that I am putting in my boat temporarily and at first it showed system overload. Then the system shut off. I tried it again and found that I had it on the Eco throttle when the AC unit kicked in on max load. Once I turned the Eco throttle off and started the AC it powered it up with no problem, then I switched it to eco and it ran the AC just fine and quieted down. I owned a Honda eu2000i and ran it for a whole season and I will say that this unit is as quiet maybe a little bit louder but it's so negligible that I would say it's comparable. I will tell you that I highly doubt that the EU 2000 would have run this 10000 BTU unit but the Ryobi unit was able to do it. The fit and finish of the generator is high quality the weight is not bad and the wheels with the extended handle make it super easy to cart around. So yes I would definitely recommend it at half the price of the Honda unit. If you don't need the fancy LCD screen and don't mind losing 100 Watts then this unit is a better buy than the 2300 watt unit.

Out of the box this works quite well. I've been using it all summer long for odds and ends and for some camping without issue. I only needed to add the oil that came with the generator, and some gas and I was good to go. I currently live at an elevation of 4700 ft and I haven't had any issues with it at around 6000+ with many hours of use. The first start out of the box only took two full pulls to get it going. and it didn't take much effort to get it going either. But make sure you add the oil, or it will not start. I wouldn't say that this is a whisper quiet motor but it's pretty good for it's size. I measured the db level around 43 at idle from a distance of about 2 feet from the exhaust. And a db level of 58 at full throttle from the same distance. you can still carry on a conversation while right next to this and not have to shout at each other. Overall a good generator to have on hand.

Easy to setup and get running. For initial testing it started on the 2nd pull. Ran the gen for about 30 minutes or so, connected a blower and no issues. Disconnected the blower and connected a 14,000BTU Portable Whynter AC (Approx. 1560 Watts@13Amps start load and 1250W @ 11Amps run load). Experienced the usual pull on the initial AC startup, the gen rev'd up it's rpm's and carried the load without a hiccup. Ran the AC for about 40 minutes then shut it all down. Pro's- PRICE- Easy start-Very quiet-Solid build-good looks. Without putting the meter on it and getting numbers- I can't share the Gen's exact capabilities- but it easily handled the AC which is more than what I had originally purchased to run in the event of a power outage. Can't speak for endurance or gas mileage, but Ryobi hasn't done me wrong to date as a home owner - DIY'r. Con's- A fuel gage would be nice to have....
