Will this start and continuously run 2 refrigerators?

Asked by JKN September 22, 2020
2
Answers

JKN, It depends on the start and run amperage of the refrigerators you're using. I've used it to run a Haier refrigerator during a power outage. If you're running on the auto idle mode, there will be a brief (about .5 seconds) dropoff of output as it picks up the load. It can run 2 at a time and that will probably, depending on the size of the compressor that you're running if you offset the start/stop cycles of them.

when using two units in parallel, is the amperage 20 or 30 ??

Answer

Great question Mike, When using the RYOBI 2,300-Watt Recoil Start Bluetooth Super Quiet Gasoline Powered Digital Inverter Generator with CO Shutdown Sensor RYi2322VNM in parallel the amperage will be 30. Thanks for asking! - Eve

RV Independence Freedom from Park Hookups!
I have a 25-ft travel trailer with a great big 15,000 BTU AC unit, large double door refrigerator, 900 watt microwave, etc. It will Not run the 15,000 BTU AC unit I knew this by doing the math ahead of time. I have a smaller 6,000 BTU window unit that fits right in my standard travel trailer side window and it's kept my trailer cool no matter how hot it is outside! (And it's a lot quieter). I use propane for my fridge so the electric is essentially just for The spark and light, And I use propane for hot water. The microwave draws a lot more than my window AC unit. When I run the microwave I turn everything else off and it has the little generator running at max load but does not overload! I'm able to run my AC unit, 32-in TV, fan that pushes the air to the front of my trailer, water pump, lights indoor and outdoor and the generator runs at about 50%. The Auto idol has to be turned off when running an AC unit because A/C wants to start up faster than the generator idles up. I love this little generator! Bluetooth is amazing! Couldn't imagine not having that option anymore... because I'm lazy!

After 6 months and 850 hours, pull cord broke, covered under warranty. Loved the fact that it held 1.25 gals of gas, using on a 32' travel trailer, and with a load of refrigerator and 2 C Pap machine during the night would run for 12 hours. Same load plus furnace would last 9.5 hours. Cheap run rate for gas.

This is an update to my previous review. I have broken in the engine, changed the oil twice, and run the unit 23 hours. Currently running two battery chargers, 2 floodlights, 4 USB chargers, 2 fans. Load is 10% with all that. Ran a large shrub trimmer (6.5 amps) and a shopvac with no issues. After 9 uses, still starts on first pull. 1 gallon gas tank, getting 12 to 14 hours per fill - not putting a big load on it but still, this is sipping gas! Nice and quiet, you can have a normal conversation right next to it. And it's got a total run hours meter built in. BTW, Bluetooth rocks! See photos.

I've been researching my replacement generator for well over a year. We have a cabin that's off grid and was actually the shooting location of my alternative energy web show. I've got two other generators, a very loud 2.2 kw and one of those 2 cycle things and power everything at night with the deep cycle battery bank. We have 3 chargers that charge the bank. This Ryobi handles them at less than 10% of it's capacity. Running the battery bank at night may change with the Ryobi - going to try an overnight run with it this weekend. Let me tell you this. With a 10% load (what I typically run overnight), the generator says "13.22" hours left on the tank of gas. Outstanding! I made the decision to get this Ryobi, which came down to a choice between 3 brands. After reading about recalls, starting issues and quality related problems, the Ryobi seemed to be the best choice for two reasons: 1. Ryobi is owned by a large corporation that owns a LOT of other quality brands. 2. Ryobi is known for tool quality. As of right now, I'm about half way through the break in cycle and have changed the oil once. Very little leftover metal slag in the crankcase, just a few small bits. The Bluetooth feature takes a minute to figure out how to pair correctly. I LOVE that feature - having the total run hours, fuel, engine controls for remote action is great. The pull out luggage handle is to die for. So easy to move along like a suitcase. The hand screw access panel for the oil and air filter is a great design feature. The sound levels are better than I had expected - it's quieter that I had thought it would be, even at full throttle. Thus far, I've loaded it with LED lights, 3 deep cycle battery chargers and a shrub trimmer. Handled everything great, less than 20% capacity used. The engine comes up off of idle, powers on the trimmer motor and then drops right back down to low speed. This is a 3.8 amp trimmer. And I've saved the best for last. Starts on the FIRST pull every time.

On June 20, 2019 I bought this generator. I used it on average about once a week. On Sep. 6, it would only run on choke. So, I took to back to Home Depot for repairs. It was past its 30 day warranty. The diagnosis was bad gas. I used the same gas in the generator as I use in my three other gas powered pieces of equipment. None of them seem to have a problem with the gas. The only gas issue I’ve ever had in the pastes water in the gas and I know how to detect it and solve the problem. Nevertheless, Home Depot puts the blame on me for using bad gas. (By the way, as I was ranting to the Home Depot employee, I saw there was another exact same generator in for a repair of a different problem … more of a sign of the junk status of this generator.) I put the blame on design. It’s simply a bad design. Because no other gas-powered equipment I have has no issues with the gas I use (other than water in the gas), I say it’s not the gas I use. It’s the engine designer, who I consider less than amateur, who did not produce an engine design that can handle ordinary gas. This wasn’t cheap, although I see today that they have reduced the price $50. (They will need to drop the price a lot more to keep selling them.) And now I will be more in the drink just getting it repaired. Then I’m going to get rid of it and find something that really works. I see now that buying the generator was a big mistake. Home Depot should be ashamed and embarrassed to sell such a piece of junk. Personally, I am kissing anything Ryobi produces with a gas engine good-bye forever.

18.2 hours on this generator and it will not run. Changed the oil, plug, and fuel filter and still no remedy. Even bypassed the low oil sensor, still a no. Living in Alaska there are no Ryobi service centers, so the warranty was pretty much useless (as is this equipment). I ran this generator as a support to a recreational travel trailer, and support it did not provide. This generator proved to be unreliable, as did the manufacturer. Thoroughly disappointed.

Upon first start-up generator was surging at idle and low load. Cleaned the idle jet with brake clean and it no longer surges. It's a very easy procedure to clean the idle jet, took about 10 minutes. Just pulled the carb, removed the float bowl, idle jet located on the bowl mounting stem. Removed idle jet and sprayed a few times with brake clean (I always have better results with brake clean than carb cleaner), reinstalled and works perfectly. Very quiet and smooth running. The bluetooth app is kinda neat as I can monitor load, run time remaining and shut it off from my phone from inside my trailer. As I sit in my camper with the generator running 10 feet away I can barely hear it! Very pleased and I would recommend.

Ran 7 days Straight after Hurricane Sally
I've had this little generator for about 5 years but only used it sparingly when we camped once or twice a year. The only thing I've had to do to it was put a new carburetor on it several years ago because I left gas in it by accident. Other than that, it's been great and mostly sits in the corner of the garage. Well a few weeks ago, we were in the direct path of hurricane Sally and I got the unit out and fueled up. We lost power that morning and I cranked it up. It powered our refrigerator, two fans and a couple of lights. Little did we know, it would be 7 days without power. This little thing ran for seven days straight, night and day. I fueled it up while it was running. The only time I shut it down was on day 4 to check and change the oil. Very impressed!
