Can this blower be used on a gravel road?
Asked by: AD
Every snow blower manufacturer will tell you not to use it on gravel as the gravel rocks become projectiles. Beyond that, this unit is made from plastic to be light weight, you want a unit made from 100% metal parts for the snow blowing process, so the collector, auger and or blades, chute, and be careful where you have it aimed.

Anyone else having issues with it working great for about 10-20ft then it throws a fit and powers down if it hits any resistance? Battery is fully charged.
Asked by: jtp10181
Yes. It plows through the heaviest, deepest snow, then stalls trying to plow 2 inches. I had it stall on me 20 times until I finally gave up.

From what materiel is the impellor made? Can it be replaced easily? I cannot find a parts diagram for the entire unit on the parts web site.
Asked by: CBWilson
Hi, CB- Thanks for the question! The auger is made from plastic and replacements can be ordered through our customer service department (1.800.860.4050). Replacement can be done either by the user or through a certified service center. The Home Depot tool rental / service center is experienced in these kinds of repairs as well. We hope this is helpful!

How cold is too cold a temperature for storing the snowblower in the winter? In Minnesota the weather got real cold, and I let it sit for a while with the battery in it, and the button would not press in and it would not start. Took batteries inside to charge, and the one that came with it (3 months old) is still showing as "defective". My other Ryobi batteries charged, but the start button still would not press down all the way. Finally took the blower inside overnight and then the button depresses now. I was able to use it just fine today. Makes me wonder if you must have a heated garage to realistically use this unit, or if it is just due to how cold it actually got. Or if this is a problem others have had with the button not being able to be pressed down.
Asked by: Bob
Hi, Bob- Thank you for the question! We don’t recommend that you charge or store your batteries in cold temperatures. The Snowblower doesn’t have any major limitations but the batteries do. Our chargers help limit the charge rate to avoid damage at temperatures below -10C (14 Fahrenheit). Our recommendation is that all batteries are charged and stored at room temperature until needed for optimal performance. We hope this is helpful info!

Bought one of these this past November, the first snow we had was wet so when I used this snow blower it did get clogged at times, but any snow thrower would w/the wet heavy snow we had and it was easy to clear. Now that we have some more snow, it works excellent, I was shocked at how far it can throw the snow, as I am clearing the sidewalk it I had it at maximum throw angle and it threw it all the way across the street, (this is normal size side street with 1 lane for driving and 2 for parking), across the street and into the front yard of the houses aross the street, so I had to adjust it. Also like that it has headlights, so can use at night....the headlights go on automatically when you start this snow thrower. The only thing I wish is that it had power to the wheels, this is a snow thrower that you have to push but still pretty good. Just a bit ticked that now they lowered the price $100, Home Depot should refund me $100 since when I bought it the price was $399

Like many others on this forum, I’ve had problems with this snowblower stalling the second it even touches snow, right out of the box (February 2019). Then my wife used it and it worked. Then I used it, and it worked. I used it again; it worked really well plowing through deep, dense snow and then stalled whenever I touched just the smallest puff of powder snow. It has been inconsistent and somewhat unreliable. That's why I gave it one star for quality. If it worked like it's supposed to, I would give it 4 stars for quality. Not the most robust design but efficient. Of course, if something you bought doesn't work right, it has no value. I wrote a previous review for this a few weeks ago and it has mysteriously disappeared. I think I struck a nerve when I mentioned that the load sensor is probably faulty. Watch reviews here to see if things improve. In the meantime, the price has come down $50. Coincedence? I’m writing this in “Word” so I can repost if it gets deleted again.

We bought it in Nov. Finally got some snow storms in Feb. The first two times it kept stalling out on me for a while. I wasn't sure if it was the amount of snow or the battery but I feared I made a bad purchase. It turns out I was wrong. It was the temperature in the garage I had left it in. We hit -28 degrees F in MN and the snow blower took sometime to warm up and shake off the extreme cold. It does have a good amount of plastic in it so I guess it makes sense it would. Once I warmed it up, it was great! It handles at least 8-10in of new snow without any effort. Good power and throw. When I figured out the issues, I put in inside my house before the latest snow storm and it again performed very very well. Not one stall and it cut my usual shoveling time in half. So, the only thing I'll suggest it make sure it's "warmed" up before you get going.

I have been mostly pleasantly surprised. This season included the snowiest February on record here in Minnesota. The machine cleared snow including plow piles and deep drifts as well as any 20" gas single stage blower i've owned. It is much lighter and easy for the family to use. Unfortunately just prior to the last big snowfall the battery became stuck in the active battery port. I cannot remove it. I attempted to remove the compartment door to get slightly more leverage and the spring that holds the door open shot into a snowbank and is gone. The battery is still stuck and I had to use my Gas Blower for the first time this year on what appears to be the last major snowfall of the year. Almost made it one full season before disappointment. Only other complaint (along the same line) would be Battery access. The doors make it difficult to properly align the batteries when installing and they get in the way during removal.

My first time using it was in 5 inches of powdered snow. I must have gotten a faulty unit as it kept cutting out ( losing power)on me, it would blow snow for a few feet and then lose power for no apparent reason. I took the unit back to home depot for repair and they said they needed it for 4-6 weeks. I decided to return the item as I only used it once but they did not have any in stock and stated they would not get any more for the season. Hmmm? January in Michigan. Done getting them for the season? I suspect there is an issue with these items circuit boards or something. Hopefully Ryobi can figure out what the issue is and make a unit that performs as it should. I may try to buy it next year although I have a really sore back now as we are having one of our worst winters for snowfall. Please figure out the problem ryobi! I really love the quiet, lighted, no gas fume operation!

I don't have the room and budget for a big gas snowblower, so I thought I'd try this (I love the Ryobi lawnmower!). I almost returned it after my first experience; three inches of heavy, very wet and icy snow. The blower did not throw it. It got clogged up immediately. Useless for those conditions. I gave it another try when we had a foot of normal fluffy snow, and it did very well! It took a couple slow passes, but it got the job done and no strain on my back. When we had a few inches of normal snow a week later, I was done with the driveway and sidewalk in no time (and the lights helped a great deal at night). This snow blower is "made for" ten inches or less of fluffy snow. It won't do the end of the driveway where the city plow throws the slush and ice. But, they never said it would. It does what it does and is VERY convenient and easy to use. As you can see, a 3 year-old can assemble it!

I purchased the snow blower for the occasional storm here in Midlothian, VA. I avoid using shovel due to heart issues. Our recent “dusting” of 11 inches a few weeks ago was a surprise to all. This product was perfect for my needs. Cleared path to mailbox and front porch in 30 minutes. I knew melt would happen fast so I used next 2 days and the machine did great. For the cost it is a wnner!

It seems the unit needs a short break in period. when I first used it it did not seem to go to full power and was stalling out and this was only in about 4 inches of dry snow. I slowly moved the blower through the snow and it did it's job but not very well since we were expecting heavier snow in the next few days. I was thinking of returning the blower and going back to my 2 stroke blower. But I gave it another chance, the next snow fall was heavier and deeper to my surprise the blower attacked it like never before I was amazed! we have had several snaow falls since and even heavier it took on the challenge and even performed better throwing the snow and ice 25 ft in the air. I have an alley and get plowed in, once again the blower performed great, and took care of snow that was higher than the cowling amazing, I love this thing because of it's portability and lightness not to mention performace it was a good match for my Ryobi lane mower and other Ryobi lawn products that I own.
