Can this blower be used on a gravel road?
Asked by: AD
Every snow blower manufacturer will tell you not to use it on gravel as the gravel rocks become projectiles. Beyond that, this unit is made from plastic to be light weight, you want a unit made from 100% metal parts for the snow blowing process, so the collector, auger and or blades, chute, and be careful where you have it aimed.

Anyone else having issues with it working great for about 10-20ft then it throws a fit and powers down if it hits any resistance? Battery is fully charged.

Yes. It plows through the heaviest, deepest snow, then stalls trying to plow 2 inches. I had it stall on me 20 times until I finally gave up.

How loud is this unit when operating and blowing snow? Could I use it outside while my family is still sleeping?

The blower runs very quietly. It puts out a whirring sound, but I would think it would be hard to hear in a house. Hopefully that helps!

The active battery doesn't seem to have a cover, but the battery storage does. Can this snowblower still be used while it's snowing?
Asked by: Jan
Jan, both batteries have a plastic cover over them to keep show and moisture away from them. Hope that helps!

Bought one of these this past November, the first snow we had was wet so when I used this snow blower it did get clogged at times, but any snow thrower would w/the wet heavy snow we had and it was easy to clear. Now that we have some more snow, it works excellent, I was shocked at how far it can throw the snow, as I am clearing the sidewalk it I had it at maximum throw angle and it threw it all the way across the street, (this is normal size side street with 1 lane for driving and 2 for parking), across the street and into the front yard of the houses aross the street, so I had to adjust it. Also like that it has headlights, so can use at night....the headlights go on automatically when you start this snow thrower. The only thing I wish is that it had power to the wheels, this is a snow thrower that you have to push but still pretty good. Just a bit ticked that now they lowered the price $100, Home Depot should refund me $100 since when I bought it the price was $399

I don't have the room and budget for a big gas snowblower, so I thought I'd try this (I love the Ryobi lawnmower!). I almost returned it after my first experience; three inches of heavy, very wet and icy snow. The blower did not throw it. It got clogged up immediately. Useless for those conditions. I gave it another try when we had a foot of normal fluffy snow, and it did very well! It took a couple slow passes, but it got the job done and no strain on my back. When we had a few inches of normal snow a week later, I was done with the driveway and sidewalk in no time (and the lights helped a great deal at night). This snow blower is "made for" ten inches or less of fluffy snow. It won't do the end of the driveway where the city plow throws the slush and ice. But, they never said it would. It does what it does and is VERY convenient and easy to use. As you can see, a 3 year-old can assemble it!

Like many others on this forum, I’ve had problems with this snowblower stalling the second it even touches snow, right out of the box (February 2019). Then my wife used it and it worked. Then I used it, and it worked. I used it again; it worked really well plowing through deep, dense snow and then stalled whenever I touched just the smallest puff of powder snow. It has been inconsistent and somewhat unreliable. That's why I gave it one star for quality. If it worked like it's supposed to, I would give it 4 stars for quality. Not the most robust design but efficient. Of course, if something you bought doesn't work right, it has no value. I wrote a previous review for this a few weeks ago and it has mysteriously disappeared. I think I struck a nerve when I mentioned that the load sensor is probably faulty. Watch reviews here to see if things improve. In the meantime, the price has come down $50. Coincedence? I’m writing this in “Word” so I can repost if it gets deleted again.

We bought it in Nov. Finally got some snow storms in Feb. The first two times it kept stalling out on me for a while. I wasn't sure if it was the amount of snow or the battery but I feared I made a bad purchase. It turns out I was wrong. It was the temperature in the garage I had left it in. We hit -28 degrees F in MN and the snow blower took sometime to warm up and shake off the extreme cold. It does have a good amount of plastic in it so I guess it makes sense it would. Once I warmed it up, it was great! It handles at least 8-10in of new snow without any effort. Good power and throw. When I figured out the issues, I put in inside my house before the latest snow storm and it again performed very very well. Not one stall and it cut my usual shoveling time in half. So, the only thing I'll suggest it make sure it's "warmed" up before you get going.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed! After a long season of manual shoveling last year, I decided to go the extra mile and purchase a snow blower to get through this winter. I wasn’t sure about the model but wanted something cordless and reasonably cost. After looking at a few mowers, I decided on the Ryobi because of the positive experience I’ve had with its lawnmower. Unfortunately, this did not live up to my expectation. After anxiously awaiting Buffalo’s first snowfall, I was excited to finally break it in only to be disappointed by its performance. As others have reported, it does not do well with wet or heavy snow and the chute does not rotate as it should. The snow clogged both the blade and chute right away and needed to be cleared in order to continue using it. The snow continued to clog the blower so in the end I had to revert back to shoveling inorder to finish the job.... which totally defeated the purpose of buying a snowblower. Thus far I’m unhappy with this purchase but interested to see how well it works on lighter snow.

I bought this to clean both the deck and the 20' x 20' dog yard. It does the job as expected. We just had our first storm of the year in NE PA with 13" of snow with freezing stuff mixed in. Where the dogs ran through the snow and trampled it down, it was a bit tougher to get through and I had to take my time. I can understand why one reviewer said they wished it was self propelled. It would be nice if it had some drive as I felt it in my wrists which are a bit arthritic. Had to push it with my body. That's the only reason it didn't get 5 stars which really isn't the fault of the manufacturer. It threw the snow as expected and the battery didn't die during the 40 minutes it took for me to clean the area. I had another manufacturer's battery operated blower a few years ago which died after a year so was hesitant to purchase another one. I am happy with this one.

Provides the freedom and independence to snow removal I was looking for. I do have a huge gas snow blower already but wanted something more manageable for lighter snows and this is it. Took a while before we had our first snow this season and it was the perfect kind. Found it easy to use and maneuver but will take some getting used to. Experience will enhance its usage. Battery charged very quickly-only a few hours. Has compartment for second one which I will invest in. I will say the directions could be improved upon. I really had to search for assembly directions which I found somewhere between the different languages too far from the illustrations which you need to complete for the minor assembly. Had a bit of trouble with the screws but eventually got it. I’m very happy to know that I have this truly convenient and competent snow blower ready to go anytime a snow falls. Great not having to rely on trying to get someone to help remove snow. Also keeps my back from breaking when I had to shovel.

My first time using it was in 5 inches of powdered snow. I must have gotten a faulty unit as it kept cutting out ( losing power)on me, it would blow snow for a few feet and then lose power for no apparent reason. I took the unit back to home depot for repair and they said they needed it for 4-6 weeks. I decided to return the item as I only used it once but they did not have any in stock and stated they would not get any more for the season. Hmmm? January in Michigan. Done getting them for the season? I suspect there is an issue with these items circuit boards or something. Hopefully Ryobi can figure out what the issue is and make a unit that performs as it should. I may try to buy it next year although I have a really sore back now as we are having one of our worst winters for snowfall. Please figure out the problem ryobi! I really love the quiet, lighted, no gas fume operation!
