Can this blower be used on a gravel road?
Asked by: AD
Every snow blower manufacturer will tell you not to use it on gravel as the gravel rocks become projectiles. Beyond that, this unit is made from plastic to be light weight, you want a unit made from 100% metal parts for the snow blowing process, so the collector, auger and or blades, chute, and be careful where you have it aimed.

Anyone else having issues with it working great for about 10-20ft then it throws a fit and powers down if it hits any resistance? Battery is fully charged.

Yes. It plows through the heaviest, deepest snow, then stalls trying to plow 2 inches. I had it stall on me 20 times until I finally gave up.

The blower runs very quietly. It puts out a whirring sound, but I would think it would be hard to hear in a house. Hopefully that helps!

The active battery doesn't seem to have a cover, but the battery storage does. Can this snowblower still be used while it's snowing?
Asked by: Jan
Jan, both batteries have a plastic cover over them to keep show and moisture away from them. Hope that helps!

RYOBI 20 in. 40-Volt Brushless Cordless Single-Stage Electric Snow Blower with 5.0 Ah Battery and Charger Included is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 380.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from In the ened, impressed I bought this a while back, in October, and it stayed unopened in my garage until now in Jan when we finally had some snow here in Michigan. The first time I used it, it was for a 1.5 inches of snow, and I wasn't impressed at all because as soon as the snowblower hit some snow it would "click" and stop running. I was set in returning it, but before doing that I decided to give it another try. So I did, in a light dusting of about 1 inch of snow, it work perfectly. But I was thinking that this isn't right, the snowblower should be able to handle more snow. I decided to give it another try. And yesterday a big winter storm hit Michigan. We had about 7 inches of snow, and the Ryobi 40V Snblower was up for the task of clearing my driveway. The battery did not last the whole driveway, but it performed flawlessly until the battery died. Granted I have a very large driveway. So I'm keeping the snowblower, it's small but it packs a lot of power! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Bought one of these this past November, the first snow we had was wet so when I used this snow blower it did get clogged at times, but any snow thrower would w/the wet heavy snow we had and it was easy to clear. Now that we have some more snow, it works excellent, I was shocked at how far it can throw the snow, as I am clearing the sidewalk it I had it at maximum throw angle and it threw it all the way across the street, (this is normal size side street with 1 lane for driving and 2 for parking), across the street and into the front yard of the houses aross the street, so I had to adjust it. Also like that it has headlights, so can use at night....the headlights go on automatically when you start this snow thrower. The only thing I wish is that it had power to the wheels, this is a snow thrower that you have to push but still pretty good. Just a bit ticked that now they lowered the price $100, Home Depot should refund me $100 since when I bought it the price was $399

I don't have the room and budget for a big gas snowblower, so I thought I'd try this (I love the Ryobi lawnmower!). I almost returned it after my first experience; three inches of heavy, very wet and icy snow. The blower did not throw it. It got clogged up immediately. Useless for those conditions. I gave it another try when we had a foot of normal fluffy snow, and it did very well! It took a couple slow passes, but it got the job done and no strain on my back. When we had a few inches of normal snow a week later, I was done with the driveway and sidewalk in no time (and the lights helped a great deal at night). This snow blower is "made for" ten inches or less of fluffy snow. It won't do the end of the driveway where the city plow throws the slush and ice. But, they never said it would. It does what it does and is VERY convenient and easy to use. As you can see, a 3 year-old can assemble it!

Like many others on this forum, I’ve had problems with this snowblower stalling the second it even touches snow, right out of the box (February 2019). Then my wife used it and it worked. Then I used it, and it worked. I used it again; it worked really well plowing through deep, dense snow and then stalled whenever I touched just the smallest puff of powder snow. It has been inconsistent and somewhat unreliable. That's why I gave it one star for quality. If it worked like it's supposed to, I would give it 4 stars for quality. Not the most robust design but efficient. Of course, if something you bought doesn't work right, it has no value. I wrote a previous review for this a few weeks ago and it has mysteriously disappeared. I think I struck a nerve when I mentioned that the load sensor is probably faulty. Watch reviews here to see if things improve. In the meantime, the price has come down $50. Coincedence? I’m writing this in “Word” so I can repost if it gets deleted again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An essential tool to survive the Canadian winter! Love my very first snow blower — after getting by with just my trusty shovel for 20+ years! Powerful yet very quiet in operation, has a compact footprint & foldable for storage, best of all it’s electric and does not emit any greenhouse gas, which is good for the environment! Assembling the machine was a breeze, as I only spent about 30 minutes following the simple instructions. Already used it half a dozen times this winter... discovered that the included battery lasts roughly 35 minutes per charge (just enough to clear snow on my double car driveway + side of the house), has a maximum throw distance of about 20 feet, and perfect for more than 4 inches of snow. Charging time can be a little long ~4 hours from 0 to 100% so buying a second battery maybe worthwhile, or until they bring a higher capacity battery to the market. All in all, this is the perfect machine for a first-time owner like myself. Thank you Ryobi... I am now a snow blower convert! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed! After a long season of manual shoveling last year, I decided to go the extra mile and purchase a snow blower to get through this winter. I wasn’t sure about the model but wanted something cordless and reasonably cost. After looking at a few mowers, I decided on the Ryobi because of the positive experience I’ve had with its lawnmower. Unfortunately, this did not live up to my expectation. After anxiously awaiting Buffalo’s first snowfall, I was excited to finally break it in only to be disappointed by its performance. As others have reported, it does not do well with wet or heavy snow and the chute does not rotate as it should. The snow clogged both the blade and chute right away and needed to be cleared in order to continue using it. The snow continued to clog the blower so in the end I had to revert back to shoveling inorder to finish the job.... which totally defeated the purpose of buying a snowblower. Thus far I’m unhappy with this purchase but interested to see how well it works on lighter snow.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good blower I brought this home yesterday and couldn't wait for the battery to charge on it so I used an old 2.6 ah battery that I use with my lawnmower. Well it worked but it lacked much power. I was getting ready to return it but decided to try it with the 5 ah battery that it came with. Well it was dramatically more powerful and did the job just fine. I would give it five stars but need to use it some more. There's another snow storm coming this weekend so that should be a good test. Only thing is that chute adjuster rod. When you store and fold down the snowblower you have to remember to remove that rod that turns the chute or it will snap at you. I also like the lights. I used it last night and could see quite well what i was doing in pitch black light. I'm happy that I'll be able to use that 5ah battery now with my mower, or at least when I called about it they said I could. And the additional charger will come in handy. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Long Overdue For years I've been mixing fuel, cleaning a carburetor and changing spark plugs. Then I had to pump the primer, set the choke and pull a rope until the old name brand snow blower fired up. With that, a puff of stinky smoke and a lot of noise. If I was lucky, I might finish without having to refuel and do it all again. Well no more. Now I take the battery outside and slip it into my Ryobi and go. And now I have a machine with headlights. No more fuel mixing, priming and choking, stink and noise are all things of the past. I got my snow thrower about 2 months ago. As most everyone knows, Michigan winters can be as bad as any as far as snow. This machine can actually take in more snow than my gas machine did and throw it farther so I can be finished faster. And with the short winter days, I can even do it in the dark. If only this had been available years ago. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
