A:  Hello, Artie78254 - Thank you for your question. Yes, the non-polarized parallel kit terminals are used with a parallel kit (sold separately) that will allow generators to be linked together to increase output. I hope this helps! quietest and lightest generator around
The Ryobi generator is a dream to use, it is quiet, powerful, light weight, simple to start and very fuel efficient. It comes with the oil you will need for a first time fill up and a paper funnel to fill it up with. The side comes off to access the service points and has only one fastener to keep the sound insulated section in place. The whole case is sound insulated so there is very little noise when it runs. The motor starts with only a couple of pulls on the starter rope. The generator powered my garage where I have a bunch of high wattage corncob lights and it never missed a beat.

            Compact, Light, Quiet Power
I ordered the Ryobi 2200-Watt Inverter Generator to use for power when needed “in the field” as well as for my house during temporary power outages in my home. The generator arrived in a box that provided excellent protection with molded Styrofoam inserts. There was a good size ding on one corner of the box but it didn’t come close to damaging the generator. Because I unpacked it myself, I had to cut the box away from the Styrofoam; not a problem since the generator was in excellent shape and I didn’t need to box for a return. If you want to retain the box and Styrofoam, I recommend you get help with removing it from the box. The good: -The quick start instructions were easy to follow and the user’s manual was of the high quality I have come to expect from Ryobi products. -The motor started on the first pull and ran quietly and smoothly. -Upon plugging in power tools and turning them on the power was instantaneous and the rise in RPM as amp load increased was smooth with no power hiccups. I operated two tools that slightly exceeded the wattage rating without a problem. -When finished I was pleased that the only noticeable heat from the unit was on the end where the exhaust is and since the end of the exhaust is recessed, there wasn’t a danger of an inadvertent burn. -It is compact with a comfortable handle that handles the 40+ lb. weight. The center of gravity is fairly low, but I would still secure it with bungies or straps when transporting it. -The controls are simple, well labeled and intuitive -There was a bottle of motor oil in the exact quantity required that needed to be poured into the engine before starting The Less Good: -The access panel to the oil port and dipstick is plastic and fussy. It has a paddle type knob with a metal screw that must be unscrewed to release a combination of friction-type plastic pop-in inserts and plastic clips integral to the panel. Be patient with the knob – it takes a LOT of turns to release it with no real feedback when you are done because of the plastic clip and pop-outs. Then you have to pry the panel off the friction clips. There is a potential to break off the plastic holders, so care must be taken each time the panel is removed. -The oil port is below the edge of the housing in a tight space, so a funnel is required. DO NOT use the paper funnel provided; it is too wide at the bottom. After a small spill I used a funnel similar in size to the illustration provided in the quick start guide and it too dribbled oil (to a lesser degree than the paper funnel) into the floor of the housing which I had to mop up in a very tight space. I’ll be shopping for a funnel with a longer skinnier neck for pouring oil in the future. oil with a coated paper funnel. Because of the panel and the oil port I did not give it five stars, however, this is a great compact generator that delivers exactly what it advertises, quietly and efficiently.

            Compact and Quiet
The RYOBI 2,050-Watt Inverter Generator is an excellent source of compact, clean, quiet power. This inverter is capable of 2,050 Starting Watts and 1,650 Running Watts... which basically means 1600ish watts. Overall, I am quite pleased with this little generator. The size weight, and overall noise are all well within acceptable limits, and the packaging is clean and easy to maintain. The unit feels well made and is a lot quieter than the larger generator I have.  It is not as quiet as some of the high end generators, like Honda, but for the price point, this unit is really very nice. The compact size and relative light weight make it easy to pack along in a small camper or for overland trips.  The unit has 2, 20amp outlets, which is plenty to power most campsite electronics, or small campers. The generator has a Carbon Monoxide Sensor, which means it will automatically shut off the inverter when hazardous levels of Carbon Monoxide are detected... so if you were running this in a poorly ventilated area (not recommended), it will shut off before the exhaust kills you (thanks!). Startup is quick and simple with only 3 easy steps to get this inverter started. My unit started on the second pull.  The 3-year limited warranty is a nice touch, too.  Since these usually only see use on camping trips or during emergencies, knowing that Ryobi backs their products with that long a warranty is reassuring. The only downside I found to the unit was that the oil plug must not have been secured at the factory, so the inside of the unit was quite slick, and it 'marks its territory' wherever I set it down.  It took a good amount of cleaning and re-securing of plugs, but the worst of the mess is cleaned up... and the rest should dry with time and heat cycles. ...just check yours for 'damp spots' before adding the supplied oil to be on the safe side.

It is pretty quiet and works well to keep the coffee pot and microwave running in our RV. It doesn’t have enough power to run the AC but who needs that in the mountains. It is a good little generator. Only draw back is the pull start. It usually took 5-6 pulls to get it going, and in the cool morning we had to start it 3 times before it was warmed up enough to power anything. Slightly inconvenient but worked well once running.

I will start with some features then give my experience with this unit. This generator inverter comes with oil, a funnel, and a very detailed operators manual. When I recieved my generator it did not have the funnel but that may have been lost in shipping. It weighs roughly 50 lbs. This generator houses a 80cc overhead valve engine. It takes about 12 oz of lubricant (oil) and 1.2 gallons of unleaded automotive gasoline. This generator is rated 120 volts at 13.75 amps. The running output is 1,650 watts and a starting output of 2,050 watts. It has 2 single phase 60 hz 120v 20 amp receptacles. The unit is ANSI/UL-2201 certified. It has an automatic shutoff when detecting unsafe CO levels. You still want to operate this generator in open areas, at least 20 feet away from any occupied structures. There is an auto idle switch which makes this quiet generator even more quiet when there is no load. This unit has an easy start dial used to start, stop, and run the engine. It also controls the choke and fuel valve. If an overload occurs their is an LED indicator light that will let you know. If you do end up over loading this unit all you have to do is unplug the last load that over loaded it and hit the reset button. There is a ground terminal on this generator which I will not be using for my needs. This generator has a low oil sensor that will shut the unit down when oil is below a certain point to protect it from damage. You can easily check the oil with the included dipstick on the oil cap. One of my favorite features is the parallel kit terminals. The parallel kit is sold separately but with it you can run 2 of these units in parallel. I wanted to try out this little generator for a few reasons. I have a little shed that does not have electricity, I wanted something portable to take camping, and something to plug my necessities into during a power outage. This fit the bill perfectly. I can power everything in my shed. I have not gone camping yet or lost electricity but I know it will do what I need it to. I was really amazed at how quiet this thing is. Even with a heavy load it's still pretty quiet but with a small load or in idle it is super quiet compared to other generators. Also I want to point out that this is a digital inverter generator. Unlike many generators out there this is also a digital inverter. If you plan on using any sensitive electronics you want something with an inverter. Unlike many other units that do not invert the power this one is safe for powering T.V.s, stereos, phones, tablets, laptops, etc... I had this thing up and running in minutes of recieving it. It has a little starters guide which is very easy to read. I put in my oil and gas then seconds later had power. The cord has a nice grip handle and is really easy to pull start. I powered my shed with this unit and it did really well with my shop vac, chop saw, table saw, tv, and stereo out there. I will be getting alot of use out of this generator. I just bought a nice 12 gauge ridgid extension cord for this unit. I think the next cord I get will be a 10 gauge nema5-20. I want a nema5-20 extension cord to hand a 20 amp load for my starting watts. A regular extension cord is only rated up to 15 amps maximum. If you have any questions about what type of cord to use or any questions about amps and watts the operator's manual does a really nice job explaining everything. I will be doing a video review on this in the near future. I have a couple items I will be doing video reviews for as soon as I get another nice day. Everytime I get a day off it ends up raining lately. If you are in the market for a quiet, small, portable generator give this a shot.

I compared this generator to the ones that are owned by my brother and neighbor and there is a world of difference. First of all, this generator is so much quieter than the ones they have, both of which are about five years old. When I started it up to power a small portable fan and a lamp to see how it would perform, there was not that loud, annoying noise that you usually experience with other generators. I am sure my neighbors will appreciate that if I have to use it for a long period of time. This generator is very easy to use and just about idiot proof. There is a simple knob that you move once the generator has started and also when you want to stop it. Adding fuel and oil is simple as is emptying it. You do, however, have to remove a few screws to do routine maintenance like changing the filter, etc. The generator only weighs about 50 pounds so it is easily transportable. The only thing I wish it had were wheels on the bottom and an LED readout to track the load when appliances are plugged in. Other than that, it is a solid, well-built unit that I am anxiously waiting to use if/when the power goes out. From the test run that I did, I should be in good shape to power at least a few essential items before the power comes back on.

This 2200W/1650W Ryobi Inverter Generator is relatively quiet. The generator is easy to manually start and there is no electric start capability. The rubber feet absorb all of the vibration of the engine. The exhaust is easy to direct away from the populated area. There are no wheels so the full weight of the Inverter Generator and fuel must be lugged by the top-mounted handle when you move it. The CO shutoff and low oil shutoffs are comforting safety features. Checking the oil level requires taking the side panel off and that is a tedious chore if it is dark and you need a generator for lights! I found that the generator powered my 13 amp (1560W) table saw easily but it struggled with my 15 amp (1800W) chop saw which took about 5 seconds to reach cutting speed. These tools are probably the limit for this 2200W/1650W Ryobi Inverter Generator.

I got this to quietly power things when I go camping. The CO detector is a nice feature, though I will still be careful not to run this thing where the exhaust gasses can collect. Feature wise this thing is a good deal. The 2050 starting power is a nice size and easily comparable to other brands of inverters. With a full tank of gasoline and oil topped up I got this thing at 53 pounds. (with my bathroom scale). On that note it is a wee bit heavier than others but I was able to tote it around single handed. I notice that other Ryobi’s have a set of wheels and a tow handle. Six of one and a half a dozen of another, I guess. To get things started, you add the included oil and fill the gas tank, that’s it. No assembly required. Out of the box took 5 pulls to start. Since then only one pull has been necessary. You unscrew a single knob to remove the sound deadening panel that exposes the engine oil fill/check/drain plug. A separate hatch held in place by two screws has a decal that reminds you how to properly check the oil. You remove this hatch to drain the oil. Behind the hatch is a cute little collection pan that guides the draining oil out of the housing and helps minimize the mess when doing an oil change. It is wise to use a funnel when filling the oil, a smaller one with a flexible tube, if they even make such a thing, would be perfect. My Ryobi did not come with a funnel. Engine oil is included and using a funnel to fill the crankcase without making a mess was rather easy to accomplish. I did a test run powering an electric drill complete with spade bit. A video below shows the experience but misrepresents the speed of the spade bit. Each time I turned the drill on you could hear the inverter’s engine surge to handle the new load then return to normal. The engine is surprisingly quiet and you can hear the drill over top of the inverter. I doubt running this at night will keep our campground neighbors awake. You can combine multiple units in parallel to produce more power. I’m thinking 2 times quiet is still quiet, but probably will keep only one of these on hand. The over 10 hour run time is a bit more than others and a definite plus. The manual is complete and thorough and includes a picture version and a wordy version -both are easy to follow in getting the inverter up and running and just in case they are cross referenced. The inverter has two 20 amp standard outlets and also comes with a spark plug wrench. I do not see a USB port for charging devices. To be safe, make sure you vent your gas can before you decide to fill the tank on this thing. One last thing, Ryobi people, I really like the grey color.

            Not such a good start
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My brand new generator would not start. I tried for hours and could not get it to start so I took it to a Ryobi Warranty repair location. He discovered the CO sensor was bad but after waiting for over a month, Ryobi was not able to get the part so I received a brand new generator. Fortunately this one started and runs very nice.
