I know I need to buy ryobi battery for that generator. What else do I need to buy beside the battery?

If you don't have a charger for the 40v batteries, your need one too.

Can this power a sump pump for a short period of time?
Asked by: kevlac
no way this will power a built in sump pump, but it could power a small decorative pond pump. 300 Watts is real small and most electric motors require much more to start.

hi what is the time running at max 300w 2.0 or 2.9a with a 6ah battery

Asked by: zeke
Ryobi makes a 5ah battery. At max 300w your looking at 30 minutes run time at best. You may want to consider a gasoline powered inverter generator that Ryobi makes.

Can this power a coffee maker?
Asked by: Peter
No it will not run a coffee maker. Ryobi makes a gasoline inverter generator that will run you coffee maker. Most coffee makers run anywhere from 1000 watts to 1200 watts. This device is rated at 300 watts.

I like that RYOBI 40-Volt battery powered inverter provides convenient, on-the-go power and uses it immediately during power outages. this inverter is perfect useful for powering laptops, tablets, cell phones and other small electronics. This compact and lightweight design is compatible with all of my existing RYOBI 40-Volt batteries making endless power even easier. It has 1 USB-A outlet, 1 USB-C outlet and one 120-Volt wall outlet for convenient and reliable power. Flashlight to push on steady or push on flashing. It is very handy, I love this Ryobi 40v battery Inverter. There are so many useful things that I can plug my electronics into the inverter. I use this to run my internet router and modem for my security cameras & doorbell during power outage. This inverter just sits by the router and modem and I plug it in immediately during power outage.

This is an awesome little inverter which I'd been checking for in my local store and online almost daily after seeing it unveiled on a tool review website six months ago. My initial impression of this inverter is that it is as good as I'd hoped it would be. It does deliver a pure sine wave and I'm surprised that this fact isn't mentioned more prominently on the packaging or in the advertising. It's a big deal for me, and a feature which I really wish had been included in Ryobi's 150W 18v battery inverter which was released a couple of months ago (model RYi150BG). I have a cheap 20" box fan which runs fine on household AC, but when running from any of my modified sine wave inverters (MSW) including the Ryobi 18v RYi150BG the box fan runs a little slower, draws a little more power, and is accompanied with a noise which sounds as if the fan is struggling to turn. This same box fan operates perfectly on the Ryobi 40 inverter and it sounds and feels exactly the same as when operating on household AC. I did make some measurements to try and determine the conversion efficiency of the inverter. I used my cheap 20" box fan (3 speed settings) and a corded Ryobi model HG600 heat gun (2-speeds and variable temp) for the loads. I used a Watt's Up meter to measure DC voltage/current/power drawn from the battery and a Kill-A-Watt meter to measure AC voltage/frequency/power drawn from the inverter. First I measured the draw from household AC as follows: box fan on lo/med/hi = 56/66/76 watts and heat gun on lowest heat setting and fan on lo/hi = 175/206 watts. I then measured these same loads on the Ryobi 40v inverter and got the same results. This suggests good quality AC output. Next I compared watts drawn from battery to watts drawn by load using the two loads mentioned before to create 0/56/66/76/175/206/262/272/282 watt loads. What I observed was 7.25 watts drawn from the battery when the inverter is powered on with no AC load, a battery draw of about 15 Watts more than the load for 56/66/76 Watt loads, a battery draw of about 30 Watts more than the load for 175/206 watt loads, and a draw of about 45 watts more than the load for 262/272/282 watt loads. For all loads the frequency remained steady around 60Hz and the voltage dipped just a little as the load increased from no load (122v) to nearly full load (119.3v). I'll conclude that the inverter produces a decent AC signal, uses 7.25 Watts when idle, and has an average efficiency of ~85%. I did not try to measure radio frequency interference (RFI) nor did I observe the AC waveform on an oscilloscope. Again, I've now measured the efficiency at about 85%. Therefore the "1.1" constant I've provided in the Q&A section should actually be "1.15", e.g. estimate run time in hours as (Battery Wh)/(Watts consumed * 1.15). Overall I'm extremely pleased and I'm sure this little inverter will see a lot of use. I checked the USB A port and it charged my iPhone at more than 1.5A which was fine. I don't have any devices which can utilize the higher charge rates of USB-A or USB-C so I can't comment on how well these do or don't work. The light was the only disappointment for me. Actually I'm not sure if I care whether the device has a light or not, but since it has this feature I figure it should work. Actually it's the light *button* which is infuriating. One should be able to select one of three light modes by pressing the light button: on, off, and strobe. But I find that I have to press the button many, many times before the light will change mode, and when changing modes it seems to randomly select the next mode. This could just be a defect with my unit and it's not important enough to me to bother with attempting an exchange, but I thought I'd mention it in case other reviewers experience the same.

I bought this, along with a 5 amp battery to replace a power setup to run my internet router and modem during a power failure. I was using another inverter plugged into my running car with a a 50 foot extension cord running into a basement window where it connected to another 25 foot cord leading to my router. That inverter was another brand and cost about $130 for only 150 watts. This inverter just sits by the router and I plug it in when needed. It has Sine Wave power with 300 watts which is very important.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 300 watt 40 volt I mainly purchased this for blowing up my twin size air mattress for camping. Runs the air pump with no issues. Comes with a built in light on it which is great if you are setting up camp at night.

The unit is limited to 300 watts, which is actually quite small and has very limited 120VAC items it can run. It has a USB charge outlet and a single 120 VAC outlet. It has a flash light built in, which has 2 settings. Steady light and flashing light. I think the flashing light could be used for a warning light such as in your car for safety purposes. I tested this out with a variety of my power tools and only 2 small tools would run on it. A small palm sander ran, and a small vibrating cutting tool ran. No drills ran, no larger tools ran since all had a larger start up power requirement than the 300 watts available. If you are camping it could be useful but keep in mind the unit is small, but with the battery is moderately heavy. It supposedly has a 2ah capacity battery so you need to calculate how long your items might last on this battery. Now the battery fits all of this brands tools so you can swap it to other battery tools of the same brand which is nice. You might find some uses for it, but it certainly is not an end all to portable power needs.

In my opinion, this power source has three design fails: Design Fail One: There is no option switch to turn off the inverter, for when AC is not required. So to charge a mobile phone from the 5 volt USB port, the inverter is also running and drawing a continuous quiescent load of about twenty watts. This make the power source only about 24% efficient. This wasted power just contributes to global warming. Design Fail Two: The Light is half obstructed by the battery. It cannot illuminate anything below the horizontal, so it is unable to lighten a table surface or floor. Design Fail Three: Only one USB port. So if you are charging you mobile phone, then you cannot charge your tablet. This is such a parsimonious design that has lost its concern for the user

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am amazed at how portable and efficient this unit is. And the fact it is completely compatible with delicate electronics. I have many dependable Ryobi battery powered tools and yard work implements. Powered by the 40-volt battery which is comparable with all these tools. This inverter is sold separately which is also a plus if you already have compatible batteries and charger you do not need to purchase more than what you need. In my case I did also get a separately sold charger and the separately sold battery. They all work perfectly and I am completely satisfied with each of these items. I will take this unit along when I go fishing to plug in my radio and light and or my minnow aerator to keep the minnows alive. It can also charge my cell phone if the need arises. Great products I am completely satisfied. Two thumbs up.
