has anyone else had issues with this saw and the blade sitting correctly? my blade will not sit ...

I tried this jigsaw twice from the Home Depot Store and they both had the misalignment you describe: the blade is angled off-center which would cause the jigsaw to always veer left. I think this error is about 2 degrees and the acceptable tolerance is supposed to be 0 - 1/2 degree. I would try to find a jigsaw with an acceptable tolerance, preferably 0 degrees, such as a Skil jigsaw. A Ryobi circular saw, on the other hand, has perfect alignment. I check and recheck and the Ryobi circular saw has perfect alignment, as if it were manufactured with laser instruments. So, for a rule of thumb: Jigsaw: Skil (or comparable brand) Circular Saw: Ryobi (or comparable brand)

How to change blades

Hi Eagle. Thanks for your interest in the RYOBI 4.8 Amp Corded Variable Speed Orbital Jig Saw JS481LG. To install blade: Unplug the saw. Rotate orbital adjustment knob to position 3. Rotate the rapid change blade clamp so that the slot in the blade clamp is aligned with the slot in the blade support roller. Holding the blade clamp in place, insert the saw blade as far as possible into the slot in the blade clamp body and blade support roller. Check to make sure the back of the saw blade is centered in the slot of the blade support roller and blade clamp. Release the blade clamp. Make sure the blade is securely in place. Check that the blade is inserted fully and completely secured. Blade will lock into position when correctly installed. Thanks for asking. - Eve

Yes, but you must purchase T-Shank blades. U-Shank will not work. Make sure you specify since the in-store assistants often know less than you do.

Which blades are compatible, the clamp doesn't turn all the way?

T-Shank blades. The employees often don't know the difference. A Bosch part number must start with a T. If it starts with a U, it is a U-Shank and will not work at all. "T-Shank Only"

Cheap do not buy
So after some use of this Jig Saw , while cutting the blade gets out of its designated area due this situation it will damage your cut!! In addition of that , since Ryobi added the feature to cut on 45° the base wont stay stable and after few cuts it will unlock from its position and your cut won't be perfect So I would not recommend it

I placed my order online because of the convenience not having to be in a crowed store and I would receive my tool by the weekend. Which would have been perfect! What I did not anticipate was that I would receive a used tool with out the blade in a tore up box. I called the Customer service department spoke to a very nice lady "Vicky" and she said that I can get a discount on the one I received, or return it to the store for faster service (defeating the original propose) and running the risk that they may not have it in stock. From now on I am going to the competitors. Please look at what I received...NOTICE that it was not packed properly from the start. Vicky stated that the package might have been miss handled by the deliverers.

Cheap not inexpensive
When you clamp the base into place it presses the bottom of the saw open and it becomes uneven. The saw then cuts at an angle. There is no such thing as inexpensive Ryobi tool, it will always cost you a lot of time and money. In my experience all Ryobi tools are cheap. Returned it rather than dealing with Ryobi’s ineffective warranty.

Saw worked good, it did seem a tad bit under powered even when cutting simple 3/4 plywood. I did only use the blade it came with though. I am going to purchase better blades and hopefully I will see a difference. Out the box was fairly easy, the quick change blade is nice as well.

Feels good in the hand. Adjustable speeds and settings are super nice and works on the fly. Just don’t really care how the deck lock is. Can’t tell if it’s dead 90 or off a little. Other then that. It’s great. Will definitely work for my everyday life not everyday use. Did the floors in my house using only the jig saw.

pay the extra $20 and get the bigger one
This small one has a horrible base plate because the screws ended up rubbing against the wood I was cutting and messed it up. Also the “feet” at the front are hard to balance if you are cutting close to an edge. I also bought a saw guide that fit in it and the guide was useless if the cut was under 3” or over 10"
