Is this unit bump feed or automatic line feed ?
Asked by: Bobfraples
It is a bump feed. Just be sure when you wind it so that it will unwind without binding up.

Very happy I decided to order this online and get the 4-cycle 30cc version instead of the 2-cycle 25cc. Not only is it a larger small engine, it's so much quieter even at full power. Also, I'm absolutely loving the Expand-It system as well; there are so many super sweet attachments. I've only been using it for a few weeks now so I'm sure I could update this review in the future if I have issues but for now, it's great. I know most stuff is going battery these days, but in MN in an unheated/uncooled garage, lithium batteries don't do so well and let's face it, I'm going to forget to bring them inside and/or charge them. On top of that, it's 100% power from start to turn-off which I really like. Also, with 4-stroke engines you never have to mix fuel which is a huge plus. P.S. When it's cold, prime it a few times, switch to full choke, and it will start up in 1-2 pulls. ALWAYS let it warm up a little bit before turning off the choke and revving it up and you'll be very happy with this thing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from ok use it one time ok. the next time I... ok use it one time ok. the next time I try to use it it is locked up. come to find out it is hydrolocked. Def oil filled cylinder and locked it up. new design does not allow me to hang it on my wall as I did my other Ryobi 4 cycle I bought over 10 years ago. Ok called homedepot.com and they said it has been too long to return it. bought it 2 weeks later used it, 3 weeks later i used it locked up and called them. Oh it has been too long. Don't remember any 30 day warranty. drained it and evidently you cant use it with motor turned 90 degrees. It blew oil out the carb and died in a puff of smoke.so unless you intend remodeling your garage to lay your weed eater down and not hang it as you have for at least 18 years. still not sure why oil blew out carburetor. probably the same reason oil leaks into the cylinder the crankcase has been trimmed and deformed that unless you keep it flat level it will run into cylinder. HOW ABOUT THOSE FRESH OUT OF COLLEGE ENGINEERS. they try to make things cheaper by using less material and smaller. cheep junk!

I used to stay away from Ryobi products because my first Ryobi product failed within weeks of purchase and I just threw it away (back when Ryobi had dark blue color). I always bought more expansive brands when it came to gas engine products. However after my STIHL product broke withing 1 month of purchase and I've gotten no customer service from STIHL, I've decided to give Ryobi another chance and began buying their products again, and so far I am not disappointed. I bought this trimmer and a few other attachments with it and used this engine about 10 times and it works flawlessly. This engine does not start as fast or easy as a STIHL engine would, but the difference is negligible. I've never had a problem with starting this yet. I'm very surprised with the blower attachment, it does great job for my small yard. Good job on the quality of this product Ryobi, I really enjoy using this product. This thing probably has some cheap Chinese engine but it lasted longer than my STIHL German engine so far.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk I've been a customer of Ryobi since the 90's, but this trimmer is junk. There is a set screen that holds the motor in place on shaft. That set screw vibrates out. Maybe locktite would secure it? Used it less then a hour. Set screw fell out. Engine spin on shaft a vibration in sued even after replacing set screw. Had it warrantied at a authorized dealer. Used for less than a hr again. Screw vibrated out. Trimmer vibrating again. Says I have 1 year to replace do to purchasing on my Home Depot card. Will be doing that and seeing about a Echo or troy built model. As per authorized dealer they are no longer doing Ryobi warranties to unpaid warranty repair bills. To warranty this again I would have to travel 150 miles to the nearest dealer. I think not! Again, I'm a Ryobi customer and still will be just not anything other than cordless tools!

"Don't buy Ryobi". If you like getting a gas bath, you'll love the leak through the gas cap. And where do they test these things, out in the middle of a lawn? Do they know that homeowners actually trim against objects like rocks, foundations and swingsets? Yes, it's easy to string it the first time. But use it for 5 minutes and the string breaks off inside the housing and good luck re-threading it. Piece of crap. Better off on your hands and knees with a pair of scissors.

Was very happy with the Ryobi at first, after a few times i used it I started noticing oil coming out of the carburetor so I brought it back to Home Depot, I was told not to hang it up, it has to lay flat. When I got the new one it always layed flat on the floor the only time it leaned to either side is when I was using it and I tried to minimize leaning it to either side as much as possible, it seemed to be ok for a little while. I stored it away for winter when I got it out the next season it had oil all over the gas tank and air filter so I brought it back to Home Depot and they gave me a new one, and now here I am on my third one and it is even worse. Before my Ryobi I had a 4 cycle Toro for almost 15 Years untill it finally died, so I tried the Ryobi and regret every second of the headache I got.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I like it. The previous trimmer I had you had to hold the trigger down while trying to start it. I used this while trying to start the Ryobi...WRONG. I built muscles for all the pulls I did but it would not start. Then, by accident I think, I left the triggers alone and lo and behold...starts pretty darn easily. I have used it a few times and I like it. It has like a clutch so the end does not roatate until you engage the trigger. That was a surprise but not unexpected due to the implements you can add for use. Hoping it lasts as long as my last trimmer (different brand) which was 18 years.

When I used this trimmer the first time, it started on the 3rd pull and ran great. The bump feed worked great. I put it away and 2 weeks later I try and start it and the pull line would not come out. Like it had seized up. It took about 10 tries to finally make it pull and then would seize up again. It took at least 10 more tries to get it running. By then my knuckles were bleeding from hitting the casing. When running, it does work well. I hope it loosens up when I use it again, or it is going back to the store.
