First of all let me say you will likely not find a better powered sprayer.... but...there are issues. The thing is built like a truck, robust, and it does its primary mission well... spraying. The variable speed adjuster is just genius. The fact that you can add this tool to your other +1 18volt Ryobi tools without paying for another charger and battery is very nice... there are like a hundred other Ryobi +1 tools to choose from. Now the not so nice: 1. the screw on lid is all but impossible to remove or put back on... I finally gave up and put Vaseline on the threads to reduce the friction. 2. The much touted free spare seals are NOT included.... instead there is a flyer that states "free seals for life" for registering the tool.... that's nice except when you go to the site to register, the sprayer I have is not listed... in fact if you try to look up the sprayer by the supposed model number, it comes up with a weed whacker.... so, no register, or free seals. 3. While there I followed the other side of the flyer to do a review and possibly win a Home Depot gift card... no place to review, the help line was closed. 4. The model number, by the way, is not listed anywhere on the sprayer or the packaging... only on the packaged manual. 5. The shoulder straps are heavy duty and well padded, except you have to run the adjustment as far as possible to get the padding over your shoulders where it is really needed... this thing is heavy. 6. On the bottom of the shipping carton where the technical data is displayed, it clearly states that the Ryobi 18 V One + is the intended battery for this sprayer... a side note below the bubble states that "for best performance use with a Ryobi 40V 4 Ah battery"... this sounds downright dangerous to me.

If you want to take care of your lawn and need to apply chemicals to a large area, this is the right tool for that job. My front yard was infected by nutsedge and it looks like they are really hard to get rid of. I have used nutsedge killer spray bottle to spot treat them, but they will just come back next year. I think it was because the treatment was not even. When the next summer comes, I’d like to add SedgeHammer, mixed with water, and used this backpack sprayer to kill nutsedge more evenly. The backpack is a little bit heavy, but the belt looks very comfy to put on (it has a think padding). I like the overall design. BTW, you get a charger and a 2A battery which is nice.

In the past, I used the one or two gallon sprayers that you commonly find in box stores. Hauling them around in both my front and back yards- even with straps - got to be a little too heavy for me now that I am getting up there in years. This backpack works well for me because I can strap it on and the weight is shifted to my back instead of my arms. Even though I will probably never carry more than one gallon of liquid, it is so much easier and comfortable. Spraying both my front and back yards is now easier and faster without the weight hindrance. Other things to like about it are (1) the padded straps, which don't cut into my shoulders, (2) the handy clips to store the spray wand, (3) the included battery and charger that can be used with other Ryobi products, (4) the strainer on the top to keep out stray objects, and (5) the different nozzles that can be used for different spray patterns. This sprayer should last for a long time. It is durable and well-built. Best of all, the sprayer can be easily cleaned to eliminate any clogs. Definitely would recommend.

Full disclosure: I have been provided with a free Ryobi One + Cordless 4 gallon backpack chemical sprayer for review purposes. I don’t know anyone who works for the manufacturer and have no affiliation with Ryobi. The following review is my honest opinion and has not been influenced by the free product. I want to say right up front that this battery powered chemical sprayer is awesome. Over the many years of owning a home I have purchased every type of chemical sprayer that has been available over the past 50 years beginning with a galvanized steel canister sprayer. It was fairly heavy and cumbersome to haul around. I would be lucky to get 2 minutes of spray time between pump ups. Next I purchased a plastic canister type sprayer to replace my rusted out steel one. It was a slight improvement over its predecessor because of its reduced weight and improved hand operated pump. That sprayer still only provided about 2 minutes of spray time. Over the 2 minutes the spray pattern diminished resulting in uneven chemical distribution. When I got my first backpack sprayer I thought that no further improvements could be made and I was oh so happy. It operated on an internal piston pumping mechanism operated by a long lever that stuck out of the side. I could just walk around pumping and spraying and life was good until the pumping mechanism malfunctioned and I could not find a rebuild kit for it. The next sprayer that I purchased was similar in style but operated on a diaphragm type of pump which was supposed to be some type of improvement. I did not notice any difference when using it. The biggest issue I had with the backpack chemical sprayers was that I had to pump the lever handle almost continuously. By the time I finished applying 20 gallons of chemical (usually weed killer) my arm was beginning to get sore. Usually I apply between 30 and 40 gallons of solution several times a year. Now that I’m closing in on 70 years old I get pretty tired by the time I’m finished. This new Ryobi battery powered sprayer almost makes it fun to do my weed killing. I just pop in the battery and go to town spraying. The pressure is excellent and the spray pattern is very consistent. So far I’ve only used the cone pattern spray head. I’m looking forward to trying the fan pattern the next time I spray. I think that with the excellent pressure provided by the electric pump I will find it easier to cover large areas. The features that I really like about this Ryobi sprayer include: Battery power that lasts up to 45 gallons, the really nice carry handle on top of the filler cap, the nice backpack straps with a chest strap that keeps it secure on my back, the spray wand holder molded into the sprayer itself, and the supplied quality spray wand with 2 different spray patterns. The features that could possibly be improved upon include: Battery is supposed to be stored at 35-50% charge, but there is no way to measure the charge left over. The battery must be removed when filling the unit and the battery compartment is not water-proof. I removed one star from my rating because few products are “perfect”, but this chemical sprayer is really super nice. I recommend this sprayer to anyone who has a large area requiring spraying or really wants the improved spraying characteristics this unit has.

No pumping! I am so looking forward to using this Ryobi backpack sprayer primarily due to the fact that it is battery operated which means no more pumping. The battery and charger is included in the package. It holds up to 4 gallons and has easy to read measurement designations on the sides, one side shows gallons, the other liters. Looking forward to not having to stop and refill so often. The backpack straps are adjustable 4 ways. It took me awhile to figure out how to best adjust the straps for my comfort. I wasn't sure where the latching cross strap should sit against my chest. The instructions don't include a diagram on how or where the backpack should be best adjusted to your back which I feel would have been helpful. The hose and nozzle seem to work fine, similar to other type of sprayers. I did have trouble getting the lid to seat properly and it also was difficult to turn. I tried a couple of times and had the same problem each time. I'm hoping it will become easier and will turn more smoothly with more use. Overall I am pleased with this product and look forward to using it more over the next few months.

The Ryobi 18V Cordless 4 GAL Backpack Chemical Sprayer with 2 Ah Battery and Charger is my second Ryobi sprayer, My first was a 1 gallon model that I have used and still works well but I would have to always refill it to finish my spraying. This 4 GAL model is a new version of the older 4 GAL one sold previously. I decided on another Ryobi to be able to use the interchangable batteries. The backpack sprayer works well and is easy to maintain. The hose and wand are better quality than the 1 GAL model but the hose is also very stiff and not easily handled. Maybe over time it will become more flexible. It also has a power dial on the tank to adjust the power of the sprayer, not only at the nozzle. The straps for the backpack are easy to use but I wish there was a waist strap too (only a chest strap) as the unit slides down on my back when moving.

So, I have a newer (got a respected competitor’s last year) pump sprayer but it’s not the best it’s has some flaws, I wanted a better one. RYOBI pulled through once again. To be completely honest, I am a RYOBI fan. I have numerous tools from them but there’s a reason for that; they build equipment that fits my needs and quality products. Now back to this battery-operated sprayer and I’ll add how it compares to my previous one. There’s very little prep work, attach the nozzle and snap in the battery (included plus the charger). My previous one took an hour or so to assemble mainly because the directions were not well thought out. This comes with a 2Ah battery which has a smaller profile than the 4.0Ah. Since I have plenty of the 4.0 ones, I put that in this as well which also fits in the compartment with plenty of room to spare. My previous sprayer was a hand pump and you were pretty much pumping continuously. That one also had an agitator that never stayed in place, it is useless. I adjusted the nozzle to a stream and it sprayed approx. 27 ft (pic doesn’t do it justice). The gallon/metric measurements are EASY to read (last one wasn’t). Two items that I found to be not to my liking but did not take away from my assessment; (1) when I release the trigger the pump still runs and thus you still have a continuous trickle of fluid come out, you need to reach the dial (well positioned) to turn off the unit if you are not going to spray immediately (2) the belt on the shoulder straps comes across the chest I’d prefer it to be lower, as a backpacker my whole life I’m accustomed to the belt being around the waist (I took the belt from an old backpack and substituted it here). Overall, I am very happy with this 4-gallon battery powered backpacker sprayer. If you are reading this review and you are shopping for a good quality, well built, sturdy and easy to use backpacker sprayer that requires much less work this one is my suggestion. Without hesitation I say it fits all my needs and expectations. I would not hesitate recommending this to family and friends. WELL done RYOBI!!!!

This ryobi one+ 18 volt lithium ion cordless 4 gallon backpack chemical sprayer with battery and charger is a great tool to have. Material feels and looks high quality. The one+ battery and charging system is proven. Pack is pretty heavy when filled with fluid but the backpack straps are comfortable. Pump sprays a steady stream with good pressure. Time will tell how long the pump and internals will last but I would recommend this product.

I have a gravel driveway and stone walkways that require grass and weed killer applied to them a couple times a year to keep them clear of growth. Normally, this require constant pumping of your typical sprayer, hunched over to get to the ground. I ordered this late in our season to prepare for next year. I cannot wait to be able to use it . I tested it with just water,we are in our cold season here. Boy, does this unit work well. Once the battery is charged, there is an access door on the tank where you plug in the battery and on the side of the unit there is a knob to turn it on and adjust the pump speed. The backpack straps are comfortable and there is a front buckle to hold the unit snug against you. The nozzle is adjustable from cone spray to stream and the reach with the pump on high is impressive. The hose and trigger appear rugged. They also include back up seals for a variety of points on the system.

This Ryobi cordless backpack sprayer works better than I expected. It is large and pretty heavy for an average woman when it is empty, so if you are a woman, be ready for that. I could not fill it all the way and lift it at all and getting in to the straps by myself was a little tricky. I ended up just carrying it along by the top handle. But I really appreciate the ease of use. I like variable rate of spray and the adjustable nozzle. The long handle was good to use with cleaning the deck railing above my head. Of course, it is not a power sprayer and I didn’t want one for this task. I was able to do a fair job of removing the dirt and green growth on the railing without hassling to get a ladder behind my little trees. I think my husband will appreciate the sprayer when he deploys the deer repellent or the ant treatment around our property.
