Dojo87cojo, thank you for your interest in the RYOBI 40-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Battery String Trimmer/Edger. Installing is simple, you will just insert drive stem of trimmer into power unit until it connects then tighten the tensioner. The battery life depends on the size of the battery and the load that the trimmer is under. . It does not come in black, and finally this is a 40 volt trimmer. it does not run on amps. Thank you for asking, If you have further questions and would like to speak with a RYOBI Customer Experience Professional, please call, 1-800-525-2579 M-F from 9am-6pm EST. Hope this helps! - Vini

No fuse. Check the battery to make sure it is charged by pressing the small button on the back of the battery. The number of LEDs that are lit will indicate the level of charge. If battery is OK, it would indicate a faulty trimmer.

It takes 20 to 30 minutes to charge. I have been using the trimmer for 3 years. It works very well. Expect to replace the battery at some point, just like a car.

Lasted 1 year and 1 month. This is my second one in two years. However the cordless mower is still going strong, on its 3rd year. The trimmer/edgers will randomly start smoking while using them and stop working.

I looked in home depot stores for it but could not find it.. luckily I found it online at home depot !.. bought it to replace the same one I had for many years.... I really like the position of the cutting guard,, the fact that it can twist to change positions , and the wheel on the guard to use to make edging sidewalks , etc easier.. I wish it had 2 cutting lines though....... also just before I bought this edger online ,( I bought a Ryobi Model # RY40202 in the home depot store, that I did not like as much, because of the guard position / the guard could not change positions, and the guard did not have a wheel on it)

The head is lacking a plant guard. A plant guard keeps you away from edging and other objects that can chew up the line faster. A plant guard also rides the grove along the sidewalk while edging. Helping you keep your line. The the way the auto feed works is no upgrade to this trimmer. Every time you let up on the trigger it feeds line. A bump feed is more efficient than this particular design. It is well balanced and comfortable to use.The battery charger sits atop the battery. I dislike this type charger. Most chargers the battery sits on top the charger. The picture shows a charger that the battery sits on top. The charging, ready and problem light is all in one light .Confusing to know if the battery is charged or what may be wrong. The battery has a button on it you press to see state of charge. This is a helpful feature. The charger has a USB port if you have to charge your phone from the battery alone or while being charged. The single line is great for home use. I found dual line trimmers just tear up things faster if you make a mistake. Another reason for a plant guard. The line spool is of average size. The small spool size is what steered me away from Works brand trimmers. It took me over six months to catch this in stock. I was not notified like I requested from HD on line. I just caught it available by chance. Some things I don't like, but overall I like it.

Broke within a few weeks. The plastic for the screws to attach the grass deflector broke within a few weeks. I took it to Ryobi Service Center nearby and found that the warranty process could take a month. They could fix it for $45+ if it is not covered by warranty. Since it was only a few weeks old, I was able to return it at Home Depot. Here is my take on this product. 1) To use this as an edger, the edge has to be in a somewhat groomed state already, like you are touching it up. Otherwise, the plastic is not durable enough. The guide also does not work well unless the edge is well defined. 2) Automatic line feed is hard to use. I wasted lots of line. Even if I don’t completely release the trigger, if I release it enough, the line advances and ends up getting tangled. I had a Ryobi gas trimmer with a bump head for line feed before and that worked much better.

I ordered online and received string trimmer very quickly. It is nice to have edger and weed wacker all in one tool. That’s where the dream ends. In weed wacker position it works great and has plenty of power to cut down the grass. When in edger position there is no guide to keep you following the sidewalk so it cuts a large groove along the sidewalk. Without the guide to follow the edge the wheel slides side to side cutting a wide crooked grove along the edge of the grass. For some reason the line breaks off inside the spool in the first two or three feet. I tried.090 line, which is much heavier line and it does the same thing. It has good features but a bad design. Also, to advance the line you squeeze the trigger and let go and squeeze the trigger again. Works well but uses a lot of line when you are squeezing and letting go to keep the rpms down.

great edger with bigger battery
1 ah battery is too weak for the initial use. Since you are digging a trench, you need a lot of juice. You may have to charge it a few times to get intial trench in bit once it is in, the smaller battery is enough. You can always use larger 3ah battery and be good to go
