    Great chainsaw
I just got this saw last month and I am very impressed. it does everything that I need around the house. I lost a tree and I was able to cut it up on one battery. I have a full selection of Ryobi 40 volt tools and a pile of batteries so I could run this thing all day if necessary. I kept my gas saw just in case, but after using this I gave it away.

      Revised review
After a second, larger tree fell, I had another chance to try out the chain saw. I was more impressed this time. Possibly the batteries I was using weren't fully charged but this time the chain saw cut through a 16" oak and did a great job. Still doesn't have the reserve power of a gas operated chain saw but it did a great job. Two batteries is about all I'm good for anyway so a good match for me. Our driveway was completely blocked so we had to depend on the chain saw to get us out. Our gas operated chain saw is still in the shop after five weeks.

Amazing power for battery operated saw.
When I purchased this saw I thought I would be using it for smaller tree limbs around our property and would continue to primarily rely on my gas powered chain saw to cut larger branches and trunks. However, I had to try it out this week on a large Box Elder that collapsed in our yard on top of a black walnut after a wind storm as I had left the gas saw at our vacation home. Turns out this chain saw cuts as well or better than the gas powered saw. It cut through a 9 inch trunk like it was butter. ( See attached photos) I will be using this saw as my primary saw from now on and avoiding the hassle of trying to start the tempremental gas powered saw.

        Very handy trimming saw.
I bought this saw to do trimming - small to medium branches - and it works very well. It cuts well, even on the occasional wood somewhat larger than recommended, but if I am cutting a bunch of material over 4 inches, I'll haul out my gas saw.. It is fast, compact and convenient. I like that I can release the trigger as I move from spot to spot and the chain stops quickly, then when I ready, I only need to press the trigger and I'm cutting again. Safer and easier than by bigger saws. My wife tried it out, but the saw is too heavy for her to use comfortably - the battery is a brick! The only problem I've had is that debris keeps getting sucked into the chain spindle and jamming the saw. (See photo) It's still a great tool, and I can look on the bright side and call clearing the debris just a "rest break".

I was kind of apprehensive from going to gas chainsaw to electric, but I don't saw down Big timber, but regardless the saw did excellent job easy to use, use some oil but that's expected with electric but it makes quick and easy work and you don't have to worry about starting it and stopping it and it's a slow starter at first but you let the RPMs build up and it goes through pretty much anything you cut on the bar very impressed recommend very highly

            Absolutely incredible! Exceeded my expectations!
As an owner of other Ryobi tools both gas-powered and battery-powered I did not hesitate to go back to them to pick up a chainsaw to cut some wood that is down in the woods behind my house. I purchased the 14-in 40-volt Ryobi chainsaw with the 4-amp battery and charger. After reading the instruction manual I went out to use it and was completely blown away by how well it performed! I knew that being Ryobi it would be a good product but never in a million years that I ever think that it would cut through 11-in diameter logs like butter. I had used the battery for 1.5 hours and it still had one battery bar left on it.in my opinion it is perfectly balanced and I had absolutely no problem cutting through any of the trees that were already down. I had absolutely no issues with this and the battery outlasted me by a long shot! I would absolutely positively highly recommend using this chainsaw! Well worth the money!

              Right tool for the job.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I burn wood and that requires quite a bit of chain saw work. My new Ryobi 40v saw cuts very well thru most wood I have. I also use it to cut kindling wood to length and this saw being lighter than most gas saws makes for less arm fatigue ! Battery last usually as long as I need per charge. I'm a homeowner not a lumberjack. This saw I'd recommend to anyone that like me , manages own woodstove or any tree falling within it's safe limits. !!

This saw is easy to use and so far has been rock-solid in terms of performance and power. The battery lasts quite awhile. This depends on several factors, but remember to let the machine work at its own pace. Don't force it. Just hold on to it and let it cut. Of course it has limitations-- it's a 14 inch saw, not intended to cut massive trees down. Having said that.... I took down a 50-foot Silver Maple tree using just this and the Ryobi 18v Pole Saw (and a towable man-lift. I just started at the top and whittled the tree down- to the ground). Fun fact- the chain has not yet required adjustment (rather amazing). But make sure the oil reservoir always has oil while you are using this. In cutting down my tree and then cutting it into bite-size portions, the battery had to be charged about (slight guestimation here...) 10-12 times. I can say that when the battery was worn down, I was ready for a recharge, too. So it worked out well here. I especially appreciated having the instant-on function that goes with electric vs gas. (So much better when working 50 feet in the air on the man lift!). The saw has not leaked a single drop of oil from the reservoir, period. I was hesitant at first to make this purchase but having used it I am very glad it's in my garage now. I have used it to cut fallen limbs. The battery is always charged. Just check the chain to make sure it's not loose. Add oil to the reservoir. Insert the battery, and go to work. I have recommended this to my friends and family as a homeowner/occasional use tool.

Very handy tool for heavy trimming
My neighbor bought this saw for me at an estate sale. I have lots of ryobi lawn care tools and constuction tools so i had batteries and chargers. I spent most of today trimming up a grove of large oaks. Worked like a champ. Worked most of the day on one and a half batteries. Cut lots of six and eight inch limbs into firewood. It is not a lumber jacks tool, but is great for homeowners. HD does not stock the chain referenced on the saw. See picture for the chain I bought and used

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Solid buy - Great Price for the combination of the Tool, Battery & Charger. The 4Ah battery and Charger by themselves cost more than half of the full purchase price. The Chainsaw is lightweight and cuts 12” diameter trees with ease. Get it!

Starts when you pull the trigger
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this a gift for Christmas 2020. I'm a home owner living in a hurricane prone state. I have owned over the years 4 different gas chain saws. I have done everything the manufacture recommended for long term storage only to have it not start at the time of need after a storm. I used my new Ryobi 40V chain saw this weekend to drop a tree that need to come down. This saw preformed outstanding, no hesitation, no stalling. I was able to drop the tree, limb it and cut it up into logs for fire wood. I was able to do all this on 3 full battery charges. I have 2 batteries started out with both fully charged discharge the first one let it cool and while I was work with the second battery I charged the first battery again to complete the job. Again outstanding tool, I know if need to call on this saw 6 months or 12 months from now it will be ready to go.

Pulled spark plug on my stihl and it was dry meaing no gas in combustion chamber. I had to get a tree down so I had been looking at this 4-v Ryobi and decided to give it a try. I cut down a tree that was getting large and was too close to my house. This saw had no problem doing the job. Cut i down and cut in up in short order and had plenty of battery remaining. Top of stump measured 9 inches. See photos

I was very with the performance and how quickly this saw cut a 10" limb. And the operating length of the battery was fantastic, the saw is light and easy to handle, I did not have a single kickback.

There actually was no assembly except putting on the blade that's pretty easy I was really surprised that the power is about equal to a gas chainsaw the only thing is the battery of course has to be recharged when it runs out but you get a really good 30 to 40 minutes of high usage more if you use it at a lower rate

My first cordless Ryobi tool was the leaf blower as a replacement for my small corded blower with a ridiculously cumbersome extension cord to drag around. I've used a lot of chainsaws over the years, all of them gas powered. Based on my positive experience with the blower, a month ago I decided to give the Ryobi cordless chainsaw a try. Out of the box, the first impression was the extremely informative instruction manual. It's probably the most comprehensive manual I've ever seen. Fast forward to the chainsaw - now that I've had a chance to use it extensively while clearing out a couple dozen mature nuisance hackberry trees. I find it easy to use and has no problem cutting full grown trees all day long. All I've got to do is make sure the chain is tight, the oil is full and the battery charged. When I got tired and had to take a break, the chainsaw was patiently waiting to get back to work. It pulls all day like a gas saw without the loud noise and fuel issues. I already had one identical battery that came with the blower, so I brought it along as a backup if necessary. I hope others have had the same positive experiences as I have. I recommend this chainsaw without reservation. Gary G.

Wow! Better than I had hoped.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had cut down most of a dead tree with a smaller saw, but the trunk was too thick. It occurred to me that it might be time to consider an electric chain saw. Other reviews were good, and the tool did not disappoint. It had plenty of power to cut smoothly through up to 12 inches of dried orange tree trunk. After about 12 cuts, the battery showed 3 out of 4 lights of battery power remaining. The cuts were clean and smooth. There was no tendency to bog down. I just allowed the tool to do the work, and it went right through with no hesitation. I am looking forward to using this saw (and the accompanying pole saw) to clear some heavy brush, with trunks up to 3 inches in diameter. This will not replace my gas powered chain saw for cutting big logs, but it certainly will get a lot of use for the smaller stuff. The battery interchangeability with all my other Ryobi tools is an added benefit.

Get off the fence and buy this little powerhouse now. This thing is a beast! We recently had some hurricane force winds make a mess of our yard and I was able to clean it up on a single charge. No hesitations, no issues, no gas, no cords, just power!

This chainsaw did what was needed and more.
After a hurricane-force wind storm knocked down hundreds of trees in my neighborhood I needed to help cut up a lot of wood. With a bad back, I could no longer handle the weight of a gas-powered chainsaw. I already had other Ryobi 40 volt devices, so I purchased the RYOBI 14 in. 40-Volt chainsaw. This chainsaw outperformed all the other smaller chainsaws both battery-based and gas-powered. Since I have multiple batteries and chargers I was able to cut wood for many hours the only thing that stopped me was that chain oil ran out and the stores were sold out. Cons: No storage box or bag for a nearly $200 dollar product I would expect something. I decided to improvise one with the provided chain guard and a $15 22" Husky Tool Box. With a razor-knife and a few measured cuts it works like it was designed for this chansaw. Glad I finally bought it
I hesitated buying this for several weeks. I have a bow saw and thought it was good enough. I needed to remove and cut up a number of branches, and once I got to the 6” size, the bow saw was a lot of work. I already have the 40 volt string trimmer, so I decided to get the chainsaw without the battery. I hesitated because of the price, but realized I really needed this. In the time it would take me to do one cut with the bow saw, I did 7 with the chainsaw. It’s a maple tree, and the largest branch went from 6” to 10”. Smooth operation, quick work. I never operated a chainsaw before, so I read the instructions twice, and read all the online questions. I emptied the chain oil after use, and it was easy to pour back into the oil bottle. Now I know I can handle the rest of the work on my trees. Go get it!

Tool doesn't work after first cut
I am in general a big fan of rtobi tools, but with this chain saw i had worst experience. It had cut the first cut very well from the second cut tool became blunt and smoking. I have made sure that lubricant is full and it's lubricating. I guess it's defective blade. Looking at few more reviews this month from homedepot defective chain seems to be more prominent. Better quality control will help before we loose faith in ryobi. I am planning to give it another try and heading to homedepot to exchange. Hope this works.

Best money ever spent! Put my electric chainsaw to shame. I went through a 18" diameter trunk three times in less than seven minutes. It's always nice to buy something that exceeds your expectations.

                                          Great little machine
I recently had to replace my 42cc 18in chainsaw, while not as powerful, it is so much simpler and easier to use. No gas to mix, light weight and enough power to take out and cut up a dozen 6in wide 20ft trees

Lightweight, powerful and very easy to use.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Had a couple of large-ish tree limbs in the back yard fall during a thunderstorm last week. Too large to drag out intact. The Ryobi chainsaw made them easy to get rid of. Never used a chainsaw before. This is great for many reasons among them the fact that it uses the batteries as my Ryobi lawnmower and weed trimmer.
