won't last forever for sure
So I have officially owned this for a year, bought at the end of 2020 mowing season. I thought it was the best thing. Stowed upright and clean all winter. after the first couple of mowes this year the locking ping on the hinge malfunctioned, spring popped out and had to macgyver a solution. Temp fix. a couple of weeks ago the unit stopped functioned. There are so many safety switches in here and the one in the arm extension locking location was stuck closed, meaning the arm was not fully extended.I had to open it up to dislodged it from track to function. Now that switch is a hit or miss on breaking the connection sometime making up while I mow. This is the last mow of the season, let's see what breaks in 2022. I'll be reaching out to Ryobi.

This Ryobi mower has met or exceeded my expectations.

I used this a handful of times on my small lawn and the back wheel assembly on both sides broke. when contacting Ryobi they told me I can take it to the shop to have fixed. I decided I would just go online and purchase the back wheel assembly and fix it myself... all sold out everywhere... guess I'm not the only one with the same issue!!!!

I bought this product brand new today and it seems I was sold a used one. Flipped it and saw dirt and grass in the bottom
        Happy Grass Cutter
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So far, the mower has met all my expectations. Recently had some cervical spine discs replaced, and have to limit my physical activity for a while, especially lifting/moving heavy objects. Time to replace the reliable, but heavy, gas mower. After mowing some high grass, everything about this Ryobi mower delights. • Lightweight, easy to maneuver • Push-button start • Easy height adjustment • Battery still had 1 bar after 40 minutes of mowing • Folds up for easy storage • No fumes • No oil changes, air filter changes, carburetor cleaning My only concern is the mower’s longevity—most of it is plastic. My lawn is very uneven in places and bounced this mower around a bit. Since it’s September now and I’ll only be mowing until the end of Fall, I plan to review again next Summer. I’m optimistic because I have so many other Ryobi cordless tools, and the build quality and technology just gets better every year.
          Nice eco friendly mower… but
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I thought I like this mower, but the more I use it the more I’m losing patience. It works fine, I only have 0.2acr so not a big deal, but it is not perfect flat lawn. And this mower is just for perfect lawns only. I could imagine perfect lawn and this mower, and it can work. My lawn is a little slopy, not perfectly flat and this mower is jumping like a goat on it. Also side screwes needs to be tightened sometimes 3 times during the mowing. I don’t know if this can be fixed but it’s very annoying when I have to have screwdriver in a pocket and keep an eye not to lose these screws. The handle will move up and down when pushing and I know it’s time. Also the battery is almost or empty after those 8000sq ft. If it’s hot outside, then in the middle of mowing I have to stop and re charge the battery or better finish next day. Battery gets pretty hot when empty and being charged. For all those reasons I would not buy any battery mower anymore in the future and will stay with gas or si ple cable electric mower.
Can be a pain to get connections right so it starts or stays running
When I got it the first thing I noticed was a nice big cut in the rubber on the top handle. Not a big deal, just annoying for a new purchase. But I could not get the lawnmower to stay on for more than about 10 seconds. This seems to be a common problem but a lot of the search results were talking about pieces that were not on this model, tightening this or that, nothing worked. It would start and then stop with or without me moving it. I was using the mulching plug. Turns out that the bar that holds the mulching plug in has to be touching one of two metal contacts but it would not stay. I ended up breaking a few sticks and shoving them around the metal bar and to keep it against one of the contacts and put duct tape on that to keep it in place. I've used it for a couple of months now with no issues except that one of the locks that keep the handle extended became unlocked in the middle of mowing so the engine cut off and it took me a couple of minutes to realize what it was. But the thing is so much lighter than my old gas mower and easier to get running. I have a smaller yard so if I keep the grass cut I have been able to do it three times on one charge. I read you don't want to keep these batteries fully charged for long periods of time, so it bothers my little bit of OCD that I can't just recharge it after every use, so I just need to know that when I am going to mow the lawn and charge it the day before. But the indicator on the battery, assuming it is accurate, makes this easy to see if I need to charge it. Hope this helps someone.

In my opinion it's just as good as a gas push mower.

the push button start is the winner for me
Picked this up today because our big mower is down. Im a big fan of Ryobi and this mower did not disaapoint. Grass cut beautifully. The mower is light enough and easy to manuveur. I attached my Ryobi 18v clip on far to make cuttting the grass a little cooler

Good power and battery life but poor hardware.
I would recommend this product because it has great battery life and power. The problem is that the push handle connection to the mower is poorly designed. The screws go into a plastic housing that regularly come loose and can fall out as the mower is used. Seems like a design oversight to use a plastic housing like this. You need to tighten the screws every time you use it.

I didn’t expect a battery powered mower to have this much power. I’ve had it for over a year and it works great.

                        Faulty batteries galore
Out of 3 Ryobi products I have purchased, three had faulty battery’s. 3 mowers, one chain saw. They all use the same 40v. At this point I think it is standard.

This is brand new. I've set everything up made sure the handles were all the way up pins locked in place and side discharge was on correctly key and battery are in place when I follow the instructions to turn on only light goes on. I don't know if there's a missing sensor for the bag and side discharge. I don't know if there's supposed be a magnet sensor there. Cuts well, but bag is crap.
I really like how this mower cuts the lawn, super light weight and is easy to use. However, I’ve only mowed the lawn 2 times, yep, 2 times- and the grass catcher bag is already tearing at the back seam. Only reason why I haven’t rated this 5 stars. Just beware that the grass catcher bag isn’t very good quality, you might be better off just mowing the mulch plug or without the bag.

                              Ryobi for the Win
I purchased the mower two weeks ago but due to constant rain, I just today got to mow the jungle in my backyard. This lawnmower cut through the thick, tall (about 2-3 inches past my ankle) grass without any problems at all. With easy push button start, low noise, and no vibration like a gas powered mower gives, this machine made it a pleasure to cut grass. I haven’t used the grass catcher yet but letting it mulch as I cut today, it worked perfectly. And then you factor in that it’s just so pretty? We’ll, I couldn’t ask for a better lawnmower than this.

                                Lawn boss: Game changer
Switched from gas to the electric month ago - what a difference it has made! Runs smoother, quieter and though its a push mower, its extremely comfortable to push even uphill. It has gas-like power thanks to the 40V 6.0Ah battery, and keeps going. We have a sloping yard, and almost get 2.5 hrs of runtime on a single charge. Chomps down tall 6in grass like a pro. Three different interlocks on the motor start is a cool feature - the start key and the bag/mulch plug and the handle extension have to all be enabled for the motor to start. Great tool to have, definitely recommend if you have upto 1/2 acre lot. Way to go Team RYOBI for an amazing product.

                                  Believe the Reviews!
After doing my research, I chose to go with the crowd on this one! Believe the high average rating and number of reviews submitted! Clearly many others were as blown away by this battery mower as I was! Goodbye trips to the gas station to fill up a jerry can. Goodbye accidentally spilling gasoline on the lawn when tipping the mower over to clean the bottom. Goodbye gas smell. Goodbye yank cord to get it started. Goodbye noisiness as its running. Goodbye maintenance. Battery mowers have now gotten to the point where they meet or even exceed gas mowers now. Assembly was easy, although I had a bit of trouble trying to figure out how to get the bag together and had to watch a random YouTube video (probably a "me problem" though - assembly is still easy!) The bag and mulching plug go on and come off quite easily. The push to start is awesome! I've honestly heard house or table fans noisier than this thing! It is half the decibels as a gas mower when running! I waited until a few weeks into June before my first mow of the season and the mower took on the front and back yards no problem, and still somehow had 75% battery capacity remaining afterwards! I love how I can take the battery completely out so I don't have to worry about the machine starting when tilting it over to clean the bottom. I actually charge it inside and carry it with me when I'm ready to mow. The mower is also very light and easy to maneuver. The single-lever height adjustment between 1.5" - 4" works effortlessly and allows one to mow at all sorts of different lengths. My gas mower wasn't able to go higher than a couple inches, so I may have been scalping my lawn this whole time! Ever since buying this mower 6 weeks ago, mowing has become more enjoyable. The quantities were actually dropping like crazy when I was ready to buy it, and I eventually had to drive across town to get one of the last ones left at a Home Depot in the city! They sell quickly! I included a picture taken after tonight's mow (taken inside the house). I hope you found this review useful for your purchasing decision!

                                    Won't go back to gas
Although it's a plastic based machine it seems durable enough for residential use. It comes fully assembled and once the battery is charged it's ready to go. I was a little skeptical about large battery powered machines, hand tools are one thing this I wasn't sure. ( I could always return it ) BIG surprise! . My community lawn service quit and left me with 12" grass in my front and back yard. OK this will be a test! I set the wheels on the highest setting and started to mow. This is a beast, with a foot of grass and walking at a normal cutting pace the mower breezed through the grass without once bogging down, in fact when the mower encountered a tougher area the motor speed increased to compensate. I have about 3500sq ft of grass and used half the battery power. The LED light in the front is a nice touch as I will have to cut near dark sometimes. I was so impressed with this 40V system I went back the next day and bought the Blower, weed eater and a pole saw.

I really enjoyed this mower for the first year, but now year two has come. It stops every 5 minutes. It’s almost unusable at this point. It seems like a glitch in the safety features, but regardless it’s a shame because I really liked it. And now I have all the batteries and I’m stuck. At first it was the plug, but now it seems to just not work at all.

                                        Nice mower
I bought this mower just to mow the small grass area in my backyard. I have to say, I really love this mower. It's so light and easy to push there is no need for the self propelled version unless you have a large area with some inclines. It's been over a year owning this and it works great. I am able to cut my back yard 4 times before needing to charge the battery. That is amazing. Now for my front yard which is a lot larger, I use a Honda HRX217 which is a beast. If Ryobi was to send me their new 40v crosscut I would love to compare it to the Honda! As for this mower, well worth the money.

Light weight, compact and does the job well
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recently bought this mower which happen to be my second Ryobi battery operated mower. I really like the first one I bought 3 years ago and when I needed a second one for another property I had no doubt in my mind that I’d choose another Ryobi. This one is light weight which is good since i have to push it. It’s easy to navigate and you can get close to edges and bases of trees. I like how it will kick into an extra gear when reaching taller grass and return to the baseline operation to save battery when the challenging grass has been shortened. Adjusting the height is easy and when the job is done, it takes about 30 seconds retract the handle and lift it upright for a nice storage. With this larger property I have an extra larger size battery. Between the two batteries I was able to complete the yard in one go - and the engine had to work hard at times. Takes a bit to charge the batteries though so I recommend charging after each use so that they are ready to go for when you need to use the lawnmower again in 5-7 days. I do feel like this mower sounds mildly louder than my older mower. I also noticed the redesign on the handle adjustment when’re they have changed from snapping a plastic piece around the handle to a plastic piece that you twist to lock seems to come loose during the use. This will stop the engine. It is an easy readjustment, but will become annoying if happening frequently.

One year of use with this mower. I have had zero issues with mower or battery. Don't miss lugging around a jug of gas or yearly oil & filter changes. You have a fuel source built into your home. Why make special trips to buy another one? Actually doesn't bog down as much as my old 4hp gas mower in thick grass. If you have really thick/tall grass you will want to bag as it takes a lot more battery to mulch cut. This mower will bag grass, cutting at the 2nd or 3rd notch from top cut height for around 50 mins with the 6ah battery and a sharp blade. Blade sharpness is a must with a battery mower to attain run time FYI! Also follow the storage instructions on battery care. Lithium batteries should not be stored for more than a few days at 100% charge. They are the complete opposite of old school flooded batteries. I have 10 year old li-ions that still work because I have followed this rule. Buy this mower and enjoy fume and trouble free mowing!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought my push mower yesterday and used it to handle some thick grass in my front and back yard. The mower was easy to handle and the battery lasted the entire time despite having a property that's about 6,000 sq ft! I've been living overseas for the last 5 years and this is our first home so it really felt good being able to take care of our lawn. I'm looking forward to getting more work done with additional Ryobi products like that spray washer.
