Great unit and incredibly useful!
Living in the NorthEast, the snow can pile on quickly and ice over. Fortunately, this brushless cordless snow shovel is really effective for on the fly removal. I can shovel my 25 foot wide property easily, and only have to charge it every 5 uses. The cordless feature is key since you aren't strapped down, and it is light enough for convenient use. Since there is a battery, all you have to do is remove it and bring it inside to charge, while leaving the dirty part of the machine outside. Great unit and incredibly useful!
Here is a simple yet effective way of removing a few inches of lightweight snow from your walkways etc. The opening of the snow shovel is about 11 inches wide so it is good for smaller areas of snow. It comes with a powerful 4AH battery to keep it working for a long time.
The powerhead has been redesigned and as an owner of the earlier model I like the feel and balance of this new handle/powerhead. With this tool you opened the gateway to the vast assortment of attachments available from Ryobi which can be used with this powerhead. Some light assembly is needed but very easy to do. good snow tool with a gateway to more attachment tools
So that people do not get confused….this is a snow thrower and not really a snow blower. It just throws snow forward and you can not aim the snow in any other direction except forward, which is ok. Great for going side to side on the driveway and throws it about 10 feet. Also great for sidewalk clean up. Very easy to put together. The cordless option is great so you don’t get cords tangled up.
I previously had reviewed this battery operated snow shovel and due to a defect I rated it low. The vendor has been very helpful in replacing the defective product and getting me going with a perfectly working battery operated snow shovel. I can definitely now recommend this item for use in specific small snow clearing situations. This has a 12" shovel with a 2 speed single stage snow thrower. It can fairly easily handle 3-5 inches of light snow, and a couple to a few inches of wet snow. More than that could overwhelm it, but some patience with it will resolve the possibility of too much snow for its small opening. I would use it for a deck or patio area, or a sidewalk. Perhaps a small driveway could be cleared with it too, but if you have a 100' 2 car wide driveway to clear, this is not the item for you. This was intended perhaps for apartment dwellers or home owners with small sidewalk areas or very small driveways like in the inner city. It takes up little room, and requires only charging the battery with the supplied charger. It is a rather large battery and runs this snow shovel for a decently long time and should complete something like a 20X10' area easily on a charge. It could certainly do a larger area if the snow was not too heavy. I find it pretty easy to use, and it does throw the snow a decent distance - perhaps 10-15 feet depending on the snow. The only drawback I find is that it only throws snow straight ahead and has no movable vanes to adjust the throw side to side. But I find that simply angling the unit while using it to one or the other side will usually suffice for you to direct the snow more accurately. So its a small snow removal tool which works well for the intended use, but if you think you are going to clear a 3000 sq foot driveway with it, and there is 6" of heavy wet slush, sorry you will be disappointed . I do recommend this item and was very happy with the vendors resolution of my first issue with it.
Ryobi really has a great bang for your buck. If you're a DIY sort, their line of tools will serve you well. Sure, other brands may be a bit more durable, but my Ryobi tools have lasted many years and I've done a number of renovations on the three houses I've owned.
As for the 40-volt brushless 21-inch Cordless Electric Snow Shovel, it's a great tool to have. I had another brand's 82 volt and this works just as well for clearing the deck and my walks, and doing some edging where I don't want to use the 2-stage blower.
This particular kit can also use any of the Ryobi Expand-It attachments, so you'll have lots of value year-round. Definitely recommended.
I needed something I could remove snow with that was easy to use, portable, not too heavy, and worked well. This is it and then some. I get snow drifts on my porch and shoveling with a regular snow shovel ruins the painted floor and makes terrible gouges and scratches. Blades move the snow without touching the floor of the porch, and it works quickly. This has a LOT of power for such a compact little machine. I wouldn't want to use it on a huge driveway, but for sidewalks and porches it works awesome. Also, I love the fact that this power head can accommodate several other 40 volt attachments from Ryobi, like a pole saw, cultivator, hedge trimmer, etc. A flyer is included to show me what tools this power head will work with. It is just what I needed for my farm. Battery and charger included. Good idea to buy an extra battery.
This RYOBI 40 volt brushless 12 inch cordless electric snow shovel with a 4.0 Ah battery and charger is great for doing small walkways and stairs where your snowblower will not fit. It is rated to work on snow up to 6 inches deep, but even in our recent 14 inch snowstorm it did a great job with multiple passes when the snow was above the top of the base of the unit (see picture). It never clogged up. It just kept on eating up the snow! It is well balanced with the 4 Ah battery at the opposite end from the head of the unit. I liked the padded, adjustable handle that I could adjust to my arm length for comfortable use of the snow thrower (see picture). It also has a switch on the handle for two speeds (see picture), and a two-part trigger which controls the speed variably depending upon how deeply you hold down the trigger (see picture). I liked that the supplied battery (see picture) can be used with my other RYOBI tools so this gives me a spare 4 Ah battery as well. This tool can actually be used with other RYOBI attachments such as a pole saw, edger, blower, and other RYOBI tools. When using other RYOBI attachments, the handle can be switched to the opposite side of the main shaft of the tool. I highly recommend this cordless electric snow thrower because it has a lot of great features and it was easy to use.
Good for clearing a12-inch path in light snow on flat surfaces only
This snow shovel arrived safely and it includes the parts needed for assembly. There are separate instruction manuals for the battery, charger, power head, and shovel attachment. I wish that the description advertised the correct size, though - it clears a 12" path, not 21" as stated in the title.
What I liked about this shovel was that it is quieter than a snow blower and runs on a battery. The trigger has a safety lock and there are 2 speeds of High and Low but the speed can also be controlled with the trigger switch by increasing or decreasing the amount of pressure applied. This is my first Expand-It tool from Ryobi and I'm looking forward to purchasing and using some other attachments like the pole saw and trimmer. I do appreciate being able to change tools by just adding a different attachment. The battery has 4 LEDs to show the status of the charge. There are 2 handles included - I like the J-handle, but it does not tighten enough to stop it from wobbling and slipping (even when the wing nut was tightened with pliers).
What I did not like was that there are no adjustments for the direction of the thrown snow. I also would have liked to be able to adjust the height of the scraper. I found that this shovel is not for use on my gravel driveway, so it is only useful for me to clean the deck or short sidewalk.
I tried this with 3" of fluffy snow, but it had to be pushed back & forth extremely slow or it would clog. It was faster and easier to push the snow with a shovel. I would rate the power head 5 stars, but the shovel attachment 3 stars.
We had our first snow so I brought out the brush-less snow shovel and it did a great job. The 4.0 AH 40 Volt battery lasted a good amount of time but that will vary depending on how deep and wet the snow is.The battery takes several hours to charge when it is depleted. The shovel weight about twenty five pounds so it's not light. The shovel can throw light snow up to 25 feet and can be used up to 6 inches of light fluffy snow. The shovel also has a 2 speed motor The can be changed on the fly and it comes with 2 grab handles but I prefer the padded one myself.
Let me be clear, this snow shovel is not designed, nor manufactured in the design of the traditional snow blower. The most obvious difference is that it not possible to alter the blades to allow the snow to be thrown to an angle or either side, so therefore the direction is a static straight ahead,
When assembled, which is straight forward, with only a few pieced to connect, and it feels and looks like a solid piece of a 20Lb equipment which only takes a few minutes to complete the assembly. The 25 feet it claims that it deposits the snow is accurate only if the shovel is tipped back whilst walking, other than that, if held vertical, throws the snow in the region of ten to twelve feet. It was the first time I had a chance to use this up at my mountain cabin this last weekend, so how did it fair?
Overnight produced only around four inches of light fluffy snow and was used to clear an area of around forty feet by twenty, which was more than enough for a visit to the outhouse and back , albeit at an angle so I wouldn`t have to use my hand held shovel. This was much easier and faster than my traditional blower, taking me only 15 minutes. The next morning there was around eight inches and I was still able to use it but had to push it with it tilted back but found this harder to maintain, but nevertheless succeeded and the time it took was over 20 minutes. The battery 4AH is terrific and after the two mornings of use, it still showed one light charge. I do have a couple of 5AH batteries and took them as a backup were not needed.
Summing up: It is an excellent tool for clearing fluffy snow 6” and lower. It is quick (depending how fast you walk) and the variable brushless motor produces more than enough power. I have other Ryobi tools, and this will certainly be an asset for next summer.
