The lid to the battery compartment came apart after the third use. The two-piece lid is simply glued together and the glue joint failed. Appears to be a design defect.

Quite, overall well designed mower
This is my second battery electric mower. My first was a Toro Carefree Cordless mower 24 volts. That mover lasted over 24 years before the push handle rusted through and folded over. Over the years the lead acid batteries lasted about 4 years before needing replacement, about $140 cost. Last set I bought on the internet for about $70. The main advantage of an electric mower is the quite operation and it always starts. This mower is larger than the Toro but pushes easier. I have a hilly yard, but rarely use the self propel feature. The self propel feature only drives the left rear wheel. The propel motor is a separate motor, has its own speed control, and does not need the blade engaged to drive the mower. The Toro has a DC motor had very high starting torque. The Ryobi has a brushless DC motor and starts kind of anemic, but will automatically power up when going through thicker grass. This is a energy saving feature. The mower comes with two batteries and runs with only one battery. The other battery can be on the charger, on the shelf, or in the mower in the second spot. Batteries in the mower uses only one battery and then a key needs to be changed to take energy from the other battery. My grass is kind of thin this year and the mower will mow the whole yard in 45 minutes and still have juice left. The batteries charge in about 45 to 60 minutes. The charger has a fan that comes on when charging the battery and is a little noisy, but the fan shuts off when the battery is fully charged. The lithium batteries have an excellent shelf life and do not self discharge. The mower comes with a bagger feature, mulch feature, or a side discharge feature. To go between the bagger and side discharge is a little clunky as a plug needs to be installed in the mower to use the mulch or side discharge. The bag itself seems easy to empty, but I have not used mine yet. The mower handle has three height settings that are not that different. The mower handle folds over very easy and can be easily sit the mower up on the back side as long as the bag is removed. The mower does not seem to clump up grass in the deck unless the grass is wet. Advantages: Quite, easy to push or self propel, long battery life and fast recharge. Easy to change the batteries. Disadvantages: The plastic guard protecting the electric control cable comes off rubbing against brush. I used two tye-wraps to keep mine on. You need the guard to keeps the electric control cable from catching on brush. The mover grass level handle is down low and easily snags on brush changing the mower height. The replacement batteries are very expensive. I hope they last at least 8 years. Look at pictures. So far so good. I hope it lasts

Best Lawn Mower I have ever owned!
I initially bought this mower to do the edges and under trees that my rider could not get to on a 3/4 acre property. Then my gas powered zero-turn mower died. I've been mowing the entire property with the Ryobi ever since and I'm never looking back. The cut quality is so much better that I don't mind the extra time it takes to get the lawn mowed. The lawn has never looked so good. Bye, bye finicky gas mower! There is something to be said about a mower that starts right away and does not require multiple attempts to start it. The height adjustment lever is simple to use. The handle easily flips around for convenient space saving storage & for cleaning under the deck. The self propel feature works nicely on my mostly flat lawn, but I found that I hardly use it since it is so light and easy to navigate. Honestly, my Ryobi string trimmer is louder than this mower. My 3/4 of an acre is pushing the 70 minutes of battery time, but I can get it done with the 2 batteries if the conditions are right (dry, not too tall grass). Otherwise, I put the first depleted battery on the charger while I mow with second one & it is usually charged up enough for me to finish. All in all, this is such a pleasant machine, I look forward to mowing the lawn now!

My FIRST Electric Mower
I wasn't sure if an Electric mower would be successful for me, but this Ryobi absolutely proved itself ! I have a 3/4 acre yard and live in Arizona which is hot, with tough Bermuda grass in Summer, and lots of debris that tends to litter my lawn from a variety of desert plants and trees. Bottom Line First, on what I loved - Even on a 90 degree morning I barely had to switch to the second battery to completely mow the lawn (there are two batteries that you install, with a switch to go from one to the other - see photo). The grass catcher is big and works really well, so gets completely full without bogging down the mower. My gas powered mower begins to cough when its bag is half full, as it tends to clog the chute. I only needed to empty the bag twice for my entire lawn (granted I don't let me grass get that long) when on my gas mower it is usually 4-5 empties. Really great power and pickup (see photos) as the mower can easily pick up lawn debris as well as the grass. I had the mower set on the second click on height from the lowest. I tried mowing over a few of the small twigs and branches that fall onto my lawn - for small ones, no problem picking up. For a larger stick, I had to set the mower to the lowest setting to pick it up and crunch it into the bagger. I could and would of course pick a stick like that up by hand, but was curious to see how the mower would handle it. It's pretty quiet, kind of like a strong vacuum cleaner. Still loud, but nothing near as loud as the gas mower. Even my kids inside the house said it wasn't loud enough to even register for them. Really good strong self propelled drive - never wavered. Mower is "robust" and seems really solid - no flimsy parts. Super simple, pull the safety handle back and push one button and starts instantly. Of course the HUGE benefit of no gas, mix, and oil. Mower had no problem on my sloped lawn (see photo) - I wasn't sure because the instructions detail a maximum slope angle, but it seemed to do just fine. Less important but of value - excellent out of box experience as it went together and ready to go in 10 minutes, simple instructions (all pictures) and easy to put to work, there's even a headlight which was a fun surprise. Only a few minor negatives - The grass catcher bag was the hardest to put together, mostly because the internal frame needs to be snapped into place inside the bag, and the plastic pieces from the fabric section that snap onto the frame are a very tight fit. Need some strong hands/fingers to click these into place. Not a huge problem, but worth a mention. Also the top grass deflector (when you have the bag in place) has some sharp plastic ribs inside - when you reach in to lift out the bag, your hand and arm runs against that sharp plastic (see photo). I know sounds kind of wussy, but shouldn't have been that hard for them to smooth those out. Finally, and this is not a mower issue, but when you have to turn the mower outside its normal turn radius, so you're not using the self drive wheels (like jog it onto a different direction), it is a bit heavy and bulky to make those moves. But that heft and bulk probably help the performance, so, oh well... Overall LOVE this new mower, and it REALLY gets the job done !! Great work Ryobi !!

Good Mower. Terrible customer service
We bought this mower for the 2021 spring and summer. The mower is quiet and efficient. We have 0.25 acres and the battery lasts for roughly half of that. It takes 4 hours to charge the battery which is the biggest drawback. The company offered a free rapid charger with registration so we registered it right away. After 3 months and multiple emails, still no rapid charger. It seems that the promotion was a ploy. Now we wish we would have bought a different mower from a different company.

Impressive!!!!!
This was my first experience with an Electric Mower. All my tools and lawn equipment are Ryobi, so why not try the mower. I hesitated at first to open the box to see how much of assembly was required and only to be extremely impressed that you only had to assemble the bag attachment. The batteries charged extremely fast as with all Ryobi batteries. I have mowed twice and so far, very impressed. I use a push mower for tight areas and front yard and a rider for the back yard (may be my next replacement). The Ryobi is quiet, lighter, and easier to push and turn than my Husqvarna push mower. The bag holds more cut up grass which requires fewer times to empty. Great cut! Storing is probably one of its best features as it just folds up and takes up much less room that gas powers push mowers. My only recommendation is possibly an option to turn the light off to preserve battery life. Not that it is necessary, but an option. I have almost ¾ acre to mow and as advertised it does the job with both batteries. Great option for those women who like to mow but hate the starting a gas-powered mower.

Amazing lawn mower
This lawn mower is perfect! It’s Simple to operate. It comes with two batteries. One battery will last longer than it takes to charge the other battery. So you never run out of power! And the self propelling power is amazing. It went up by a 45° hill with ease. It cut through a foot of grass. It was not easy but it got the job done. I can’t say enough good things about this lawnmower. It’s much better than I even imagined it would be. I would give it ten stars if I could. Wish I could post more pictures.

A Superior Successor to the Gas Alternative
Overall this unit is superior to its gas alternative. It's noise level and fumes (or lack thereof) is far better than a gas mower. I would like to see a few tweaks. The speed adjustment is easily changed by an accidental shirt brush. I would also like to see a quicker response to the ramp up when in heavier grass. Also, an auto battery switchover would be nice but understand they didn't add it. Honestly, I am nit-picking at this point, for the small to medium yard, this unit will not only be more than adequate but will leave you feeling quite pleased with your purchase. Especially when your shed is solar powered and you charge it off solar....for those that are green oriented or just a total tech nerd like myself. Either way...a winner. Also, the crosscut design seems to make cutting in heavy grass extremely easy all things considered.

Ryobi 40v brushless
This was my first experience with an electric mower. I liked how easy the assembly was to start , very few pieces to install. I enjoyed the key feature when a battery runs out. I was also surprised how long I was able to mow on one battery, I was able to do the front twice and start the back. It’s quieter than I thought it would be for a mower , also really enjoy the folding feature. It seems to cut great, my first cut was through pretty high weeds and it tore through them. I would say the assembly and the key feature is what I like about the mower. Besides of course I’ve got a smooth clean cut every time so far.
