Lightweight, easy to use.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am so happy I bought this product. The cordless trimmer is so easy to use and no more wires to accidentally cut. Such a brilliant concept. The long blade made it easy to reach the high branches and it cut them easily. There is so my force for such a compact lightweight machine. The design team for this item needs a pay raise!!! This is a 5 star item for sure!!!

Great Hedge Trimmer with Great Features
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Ryobi 40-Volt Hedge Trimmer is every bit as good as my old corded hedge trimmer with the great benefit of not having an extension cord that constantly needs to be managed. This trimmer is also just as powerful and easily cut through all of my hedges and bushes, including burning bushes, boxwoods, barberries, azaleas, etc, with clean cuts. Another great feature is the rotating trigger-grip that allows you to re-position the grip to be at a 45 or 90 degree angle (left or right) to the trimming blade which makes holding the trimmer more comfortable when trimming the vertical sides of hedges. This trimmer also includes a "sweeper" bar that can be easily installed/removed from the top of the blade rail for the purpose of pushing the trimmed branches away from the blade. I had my doubts about this feature but it actually did a fairly good job at clearing the cut-off pieces of the hedges. Overall weight and balance of the tool is good and the battery life and power are also good. I trimmed 6 good sized boxwoods, 4 large barberries, some clean-up on a burning bush, and some other hedges and still had power left in the battery. Also, because it uses a Lithium battery, there is no performance fade as the battery runs down and the recharge time is quick. I will never go back to a corded or gas trimmer.

Great Features and Reach

I like the sweeper attachment and the ability to rotate the cutting blades while keeping the handle in place. It does a good job cutting through thick branches and the battery lasts a long time.

Putting this hedge trimmer to use, I noticed the balanced weight distribution which allowed me to cut for a longer time period. The 40-volt battery is heavy compared to the 18-volt batteries. However, the placement of it under the handle feels like it equalizes the weight of the 26 inch long cutting blades. I especially like the swivel feature of the handle which makes left and right side vertical cutting much more comfortable. A nice safety feature I discovered occurred when I hit a thick stem, causing the trimmer to shut down. However, it did reverse briefly in order to free the obstruction. It resets when the trigger is again depressed. In addition to the scabbard a debris deflector is also included. Four green lights indicate a fully charged battery. When the trimming was completed, I noted 2 green lights, or half-charged condition. To conserve space in my workshop, I will hang the charger on the wall as it is designed for either horizontal or vertical placement.

Great new features. No noisy, smelly engine and no awkward extension cord! The trimmer works really well - although I haven’t tried it on any substantial branches, just trimming grass and hedges so far. The teeth will accept a 1 inch branch -- near the outside of the blade. The orange sweeper on top of the blade was an unexpected bonus. It makes cleaning up a breeze! This is something I wouldn’t have thought to look for, but I will never use a hedge trimmer that doesn’t have one again. The rotating handle is also a real wrist saver. The trimmer is comfortable to use in any of the 5 positions. This kit comes with a 2 AmpHr battery and a rapid charger which is also a real bonus. I already have 5AmpHr and 6AmpHr batteries for my 40V Ryobi backpack blower, but the blower came with a slower charger. This rapid charger is a little noisier, though, because it has a fan; the slow charger is silent. I like the lightweight 2AmpHr battery with this trimmer, but if I drain it before finishing the job, the 5AmpHr battery slips right onto the handle. It is a bit heavier but not enough to unbalance the trimmer. The trimmer is 6lb 14oz plus 4ounces for the sweeper. The batteries weigh: 1lb 13 oz for 2Ah, 3lb 3 oz for 5Ah and 3lb 5oz for 6Ah. This is a really nice tool that feels good in your hands and cuts through fountain grass like butter. It is a joy to use and the sweeper feature makes cleaning up easier, too. Oh, and make sure you have to squeeze both handles to activate the blades. The first trimmer I received was defective. The switch trigger didn't work. The blades started moving any time I touched the front handle which is dangerous. However, exchanging was simple and the second one works fine.

This is fully assembled. The battery charges very quickly and seemed to last a good long time. The cutting blades work great for finely cutting boxwood hedges. It also works well with more complex stem growth like from a hawthorn. Equipped with a debri clearing device, it is a fin that slides onto the top center of the cutting bar. This is used to collect and sweep cuttings away.

I figured that this was for hedges with small branches. This trimmer cut some pretty large branches on this bush. I am planning on digging it up while it is still dormant and putting it into a pot. The soil here is just to dense to hold the water needed to make the bush flower, bloom and produce fruit. The smaller top will make it easier to move into the pot.
If the branch will fit in the blades, it will cut the branch. No balking whatsoever.
It comes with a scabbard to protect the blades when not in use and an upright to brush the cuttings off while you are cutting.
