Great Hedge Trimmer with Great Features
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Ryobi 40-Volt Hedge Trimmer is every bit as good as my old corded hedge trimmer with the great benefit of not having an extension cord that constantly needs to be managed. This trimmer is also just as powerful and easily cut through all of my hedges and bushes, including burning bushes, boxwoods, barberries, azaleas, etc, with clean cuts. Another great feature is the rotating trigger-grip that allows you to re-position the grip to be at a 45 or 90 degree angle (left or right) to the trimming blade which makes holding the trimmer more comfortable when trimming the vertical sides of hedges. This trimmer also includes a "sweeper" bar that can be easily installed/removed from the top of the blade rail for the purpose of pushing the trimmed branches away from the blade. I had my doubts about this feature but it actually did a fairly good job at clearing the cut-off pieces of the hedges. Overall weight and balance of the tool is good and the battery life and power are also good. I trimmed 6 good sized boxwoods, 4 large barberries, some clean-up on a burning bush, and some other hedges and still had power left in the battery. Also, because it uses a Lithium battery, there is no performance fade as the battery runs down and the recharge time is quick. I will never go back to a corded or gas trimmer.

Great Features and Reach

I like the sweeper attachment and the ability to rotate the cutting blades while keeping the handle in place. It does a good job cutting through thick branches and the battery lasts a long time.

We got this hedge trimmer for holly, azalea and laurel shrubs that seem to shoot out of control and have to be trimmed often. The 26 inch reach is very nice because our hedges are so tall. The speed of the blades make quick work of the branch growth. It cuts nicely at any angle. The rotating handle lets you set it to cut vertical so it doesn’t wear my hands out. I was impressed with the power and battery life. I already had the matching weed trimmer to share batteries. The warranty is nice addition.

This is an excellent tool for the homeowner who needs a limited duty system and does not want to have a gas powered system. This 40V Ryobi (tool only) Hedge Trimmer replaces our corded model. It has a similar cutting ability with only a slight decrease in overall power. Not that noticeable in general use. If you have very dense shrubbery to cut, you will need to go slowly. In the video below, it has no problem with our shrubs that suffered die-back in the 2021 Texas Ice Storm. It is very convenient that it uses the same battery as our Ryobi lawn mower. With the battery installed it is well balanced and not too heavy. We will be donating our corded trimmer as this will meet our our non-commercial needs.

The Ryobi 26 in. 40-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Battery Hedge Trimmer was well packaged and delivered quickly. I have only used it once because of our weather here in the Northeast but it is a great hedge trimmer. The longer cutting blade makes it easier to trim large hedges. Works like a charm. Like that I know longer have to worry about the cord and where to plug it in. You will not be disappointed.

I love the 40-volt Ryobi tool line. The battery packs are compatible with a wide variety of tools and offer gas performance with good power and long run times. This 26-inch 40-volt Hedge Trimmer uses the 40-volt lithium ion battery pack – not included in this tool only package. With a branch capacity of 1 inch, it handles all you regular and heavy-duty trimming needs. Moderate weight and well balanced, you have good reach with minimal arm fatigue. The cutting head angle can be rotated 90 degrees in either direction with the push of a button on the handle. The brushless motor provides plenty of cutting power at 3000 strokes per minute. Steel blades provide years of service. This hedge trimmer has a plastic hedge guard that slips over the blade and sweeps away the cuttings as you go. Also included is a slip-on blade guard that allows for safe storage or transport. This tool is backed by a five-year warranty. I had an older trimmer that need a motor replacement after 4 ¾ years, and it was serviced quickly and free. They stand by their tools.
