Q:why did my delivered edger RY40760VNM-AC model come with the extra 8" blade AC04215 rather than a 9" blade? Isn't the 8" blade useless? Can I get the correct blade sent to me?

RYOBI 40V CORDLESS EDGER
I got this over 3 weeks ago but due to the crazy weather i didn't get a chance to put it to work. There is very little to put together other than screwing the handle on. The edger comes with the charger and one 4Ah rechargeable battery. The steel blade is a monster compared to the blade on my electric edger. There is a lever to easily adjust the depth that the blade goes. After charging the battery it was outside to test my newest toy. This edger went right to work easily edging along my 80ft sidewalk and curb. Variable control of the blade speed is also a nice feature along with the ability to adjust the handle angle. All in all i am very happy with this new addition to my cordless garden tools.
I had the 18v and it worked for years, just upgraded to the 40v because my 18v needed breaks, I have a lot of edge to do. The 40v zipped right through it.
Thanks again Ryobi

Packs a lot of power
The RYOBI 40V HP Brushless 9" Edger kit, model # RY40706 is a powerful, versatile, and precise edging machine.
Ryobi designers did outstanding job pairing the brushless motor with 40V, 4 Ah battery. It provides plenty of torque to cut through dense grass and roots at the maximum 2-inch depth.
The machine has 4 depth positions between 1/2" and 2" (12.7 to 50.8mm).
The edger blade is standard 9" blade, arbor size of 1 inch held by 9mm reverse thread arbor nut with cotter pin. The standard Ryobi blade (part # 638006008) is wear resistant, the steel is phenomenally strong. HD carries replacement blades and they are very modestly priced. Change of the blade is easy, and there is a hex key provided with the instructions to the edger. The machine kas arbor detent for easy changeout.
The kit comes with 40-volt 4Ah battery and 194-watt fast charger, which charges a new battery from 20 to 100% in less than 45 min.
The duty cycle is superb, full battery charge would cut more than 300 linear yards of densely overgrown grass with thick root system.
The versatility of this edger is where it shines. The left wheel can drop to one of 4-position setting so that it can ride along a curb, with the other on it, and the edge guide lined along a curb to make a precise cut, all controlled from the handlebar through a paddle on the left side.
The right side paddle controls the depth and this would be probably the most unused feature, because the motor and battery provide quite a lot of power to cut at the max 2-inch depth with ease, without any hesitation.
The handlebar contains also a variable blade speed slider. I couldn't find any specifications on the RPM but clocked the minimum at around 50 rpm, so max would be close to 300 rpms. The control slider is gradient, not sectional, so it can be precisely adjusted to the torque and speed that would best match the overgrown grass thickness.
An important feature to me, without which I would never buy this tool, is a safety switch and a combination of handlebars and button that needs to be pressed, which is physically impossible to be done with the hands of a child probably below 11-12 years old. I really liked the simple, yet very effective design that was built into the machine.
The machine has an integrated debris cleaning lever around the blade, and a trailing paddle to align it to the curb or sidewalk to do a secondary pass, or for landscaping preventive maintenance.
The handle has 4 height positions and from any of them, the cut line bright yellow indicator is well visible. The cowl around the blade is sturdy, and thick enough to withstand high-velocity impact from rocks. The entire casing of the machine seems to have been built with around 25% fiber reinforcement, except for the protective cover for the battery, which to some extent makes sense as it is not exposed to occasional bumps and scuffs.
The handle can be dismantled and folded in two, for easy storage and transportation. I liked how the design of the cabling inside used curled stranded cabling with UV and scuff resistant sheathing.
The handle can also rotate 90-degrees for better handling if needed.
The entire machine weighs 17.8lbs (8.08kg), and it came in a sturdy, well reinforced package, safe for online ordering and delivery.
It indeed does pack 2.5 times more power compared to gas powered machines and the added longevity of the brushless motor, which uses less power makes this the perfect pair that is going to quickly put this edger in every home.
The RYOBI 40-Volt HP Brushless 9 in. Cordless Edger with 4.0 Ah Battery and Charger
is a brand new tool from Ryobi (Spring of 2022) I’ve struggled with various edging tools for years and I think this is finally the one for me. This tool cuts best with dry soil (per the manual) My soil/grass is damp now, but the weather forecast is a week of rain starting tomorrow, so today is the last chance for a test drive for a while. It comes pre-assembled except for attaching the handle to the base with 2 screws. There are several adjustments, so reading the manual is always recommended. This tool comes with a 40vLithium-ion battery and charger, I imagine at some point you will be able to purchase one of these “tool only” if you don’t need the Ryobi 40v battery and charger and save some money. While making any adjustments near the blade, please remove the battery. It only takes a few seconds to pull the battery and be safe. The 40v battery took about an hour on the included charging base to reach full charge. It has power level LED’s to tell you how much power is left on the battery and had plenty of power to run the edger and complete my grass edging duties. My grass hasn’t been edged in a year, so a lot is hanging over the sidewalk. The first time, I had to go slow and establish the groove in the soil alongside the concrete walk, and as I said the soil is still damp, but it made quick work edging even the damp grass. Next time will be even easier now that I’ve done it once. This edger features a variable speed brushless motor for maximum life, 3 plastic adjustable wheels, a steel edge cutting guide, and a blade indicator with a lever that scrapes the inside of the guard housing clean and it works! It has push-button start and the edger has 4 position depth adjustments from .5 in. to 2.0 in. The rear drop wheel lets you edge along a curb and the handle rotates for hanging on the wall or when operating the edger in a tight spot. The blade is easy to remove with the spindle-lock push button. There is a storage area in the battery compartment for an extra blade (not included) and the blade wrench (included) is stored there too. This 40V HP 9 in. Ryobi Edger is backed by a 5-year tool warranty. It performed very well, even though the soil was damp. I think Ryobi thought of everything on this tool and has another winner!
perfect tool for the homeowner, easy enough to use so the kids to earn their way.
The older I get the more I want to use power tools and cordless is even better. I’ve wanted a powered edger for some time and when the Ryobi model RY40706 became available I immediately grabbed one. The edger is 40v and cordless which is great, and the battery can be used with my cordless Ryobi mower so now I can trim and mow the whole yard without needing to recharge. Assembly time is 5 minutes with only two screws in the handle shaft needing to be tightened. The handle has 4 different height adjustments and is done with a simple twist and click knob. The operator station at the end of the handle can be rotated 90 deg. for ease of storage or for clearance when edging in tight spaces. Wheel height, blade speed, and depth of cut can all be adjusted from the operator station at the end of the handle. The edge guide is slightly difficult to use but once you have it set you never move it again anyway. The right rear wheel can be adjusted independently up and down from the left and front-wheel allowing for use on curbs and other uneven situations. The blade does kick up some dirt which does cake on the inside of the blade guard, but OEM has installed a nifty cleaning bar to knock all that stuff off really quick. The edger weighs in at slightly over 18 lbs. and if you adjust the handle to the (lowest) horizontal position, you can store the unit up against a wall taking up minimal space. I used this over the weekend and found that it worked perfectly with no issues and would recommend this product to any homeowner. 40v battery and some parts are made in China, with the assembly and other parts from Vietnam.
Anyone who’s passionate about lawn edging will tell you it’s all about the groove, man! This convenient cordless edger cuts a terrific groove, which is how edgers help keep lawn edges from overgrowing and makes lawns look EXTRA manicured. It does not cut the long, soft grass blades that hang over the edge well, so you do need to follow up with a line trimmer for that. I only use the edger periodically to re-cut a strong groove. I use a line trimmer for regular maintenance.
The fast charger is super-fast! It has a cooling fan that makes some noise, but the battery goes from 1 to 4 lights within 40 mins! My regular charger takes a couple of hours. Also, it automatically turns off when the battery is fully charged which protects the battery and saves energy to boot!
Remember to tilt the front up so the blade doesn’t hit the pavement if you ever start or roll over it. The start sequence doesn’t matter. Squeeze the levers then push the button or vice versa. They both work.
The entire machine feels loosely put together when pushing and moving it around, but I believe that is because literally every joint on it is adjustable.
It runs extremely quiet and sounds like it has no power and that the battery is dying, even at highest speed, when in fact it’s fully charged and working fine regardless. That’s so strange to me! The battery actually lasts and lasts, even when cutting through some overgrown edges.
The curb adjustment is so cool! Push the left lever on the handle down to unlock the left wheel and let it drop to the street level while the machine sits up on the curb. Then just raise the lever up to lock it there. Do the same with right lever to lower or raise the front wheel to fully plumb the blade. Both wheels only lock into certain notches, not anywhere you want, so it is necessary to adjust both to get correct curb alignment, but it’s very quick and easy to do.
The adjustable height blade guard helps to keep from grazing the blade against the pavement. It tends to slide up though, and it’s behind the blade, so you still need to keep the front aligned yourself.
It also has a metal sweeper for the blade cover that you simply slide back and forth along the cover to remove grass clumps.
The handle pole is adjustable to 3 diff. angles for comfort, and also drops flat so you can hang the machine on the wall. It’s not heavy.
The battery compartment also stores an extra blade (not included) and the blade-changing wrench (included) so you can’t lose it!
This is a terrific edger that is easy to use, covers a lot of ground in a single charge and works well. No gas, no cord!
Edger with 3 wheels - great for edging large lines
If you tire of carrying a weed wacker around to edge your lawns, this is the tool for you. It has three wheels, adjustable boom (handle), blade, blade speed, and edge guard. It is battery powered, so you simply roll it along, either on your lawn or on the surface next to your lawn. It is quiet, powerful, and easy to use. Comes with a large 4Ah battery and charger. It was easy to assemble, simply two screws to attach the top of the boom (handle), and it came with a tool to tighten the screws and remove the blade. Very nice design.
I love Ryobi, this edger fits in perfectly with all my other Ryobi products, can change batteries and keep going. Another thing you can purchase Ryobi items without batteries (cheaper), have done this with a few items. Edger was easy to assemble even though not instructions, Note the adjustments for the blade and wheels Paddles are located at the top under the handle. Took a few moments to adjust the edger the way I wanted. Edge Guide needs to be a little bit into the grass. After a few cuts and adjustments had the Edger set up the way I wanted for my yard. Addition of speed control is very nice also.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ll be the first to admit I dislike doing yard work and lawn care is getting more costly. With fuel prices being what they are right now, looks like cordless is the way to go. This Ryobi 40 volt battery brushless edger has so many features that it’s hard to list them all.
First of all it is a cinch to assemble. Simply attach the upper handle to the lower handle and it’s ready to go. The 40 volt battery is heavy duty! 7 inches long by 4 inches wide and easily slides into the charger. Green and yellow indicator lights. Edger comes with instruction booklets for edger, charger and battery, which are very well written. Top compartment on edger for battery and it inserts easily. To start, simply press and hold both handles then press the start button. To stop release handles.
Edger is very lightweight. Not very noisy either and I initially turned on while inside. To edge, use the sight on the blade guide to align the blade with the area you wish to edge. It will edge along sidewalks, driveways, flower beds, curbs, and other similar areas. Light contact of the blade against the sidewalk is acceptable and will not damage the blade. Best edging is done when grass is dry. Before adjusting anything on the edger near the blade, remove the battery first.
Adjustments include blade speed, depth of cut, drop wheel, handle height and edger guide. Other features include guard sweep, lock-out, depth adjustment paddle, and pivoting handle. Replace the blade when it appears worn or the performance lessens. To clean the edger use clean cloths to remove dirt, dust, oil and grease. Solvents cannot be used on the plastic.
This is a great, easy to use edger and the handles makes for easy maneuverability. Edger can be stored vertically by adjusting the handle so that it is flat. Toll free number for replacement parts with a 5 year residential use warranty. Great looking edger in the Ryobi lime green. Your neighbors will be lime green with envy.
