Questions & Answers

Am I able to replace with the 100 Ah batteries?

Asked by: Supaflygator
Hi Supaflygator, You can replace your 75AH Battery with the 100AH Battery for more run time. LPC12-100 is the model number for the 100AH Battery sold at Home Depot, that would fit in the ZTR Mower.

What is the battery recharge time when they are fully depleted

Asked by: Brandon
Early convention wisdom by several battery web sites said to condition these batteries by only discharging them no more than 30% for the first 10 - 20 charge cycles. Then Ryobi states to discharge them down 80% for the first 4 - 5 charge cycles. The Leoch documentation for the LPC12 batteries states only that the batteries be given a supplemental (maintenance) charge before putting them into service. Leoch documentation for these batteries also shows that battery life span is mostly dependent on the routine Depth Of Discharge (DOD) these batteries endure. Do 80% DOD routinely and you might get 200 - 300 charge cycles. Do 20% DOD routinely and you might get 1,500 - 1,700 charge cycles. I followed the CW and keep the mower plugged into the charger at all times. I only have 40 charge cycles on the chart so far so it’s too soon to tell how long my batteries will last. I’m using less than 10% of the voltage in the pack for each mow. Hopefully, I will get many years of service out of them. One of the factors involved is the number of times you mow/use the mower each year.

I really like the looks of this mower and am seriously debating getting it, but I have a couple of questions. First, I know that it has the capability to tow, but what is the payload capacity? I have a 1000 lb dump cart, and I do use my current gas mower to tow that around without issue. Second, does the charger require a 110 plug or 220? I can imaging providing a 220 would be a bit of a pain, so I'm assuming it's 110, but don't want to be unpleasantly surprised if it's not.
Asked by: kitt614
Hi Kitt614, The 75AH Zero Turn Riding Mower can tow up to 500lbs. including the person on it. It takes a standard 110 plug to charge it. Hope this helps!

I ordered this online and it took a few weeks to get delivered, but it was worth the wait. I have to say, this mower is a pleasure to run. There is almost no vibration whatsoever, the noise levels are very low, and the rider comfort is great. Overall it is less tiring to run than a gas mower. The battery life is surprisingly good also. From a full charge I was able to cut grass for 90 minutes and it still had 50% charge left. The quality of the grass cut is excellent. On areas with tall weeds it was able to power through them with at least as much torque as my 25 horsepower gas riding mower, so I would say it has plenty of power. After experiencing this mower I will never go back to gas again! The only complaint I could say is that it would be nice if it started out in low speed drive as the default. It starts out in high speed drive which is tricky to steer in tight spaces, i.e. like backing out of your garage. You will want to start in low speed mode when in close quarters for safety because otherwise it goes too fast. Overall a great mower!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Cool I have had this mower for a month now and I love it. I replaced a 54" Husquvarna zero turn. This mower is very fast and the speed makes up for the smaller deck as I can mow the same size lawn in just around the same time. SUper quit just driving and still quiet mowing(sounds like a large fan) I did the 10 days of using 30% of the charge to condition the batteries. This mower does a great job mowing and the lawn looks fantastic. SO far I am very glad I made this purchase. If I had to say something negative it would be that with super speed comes bruised kidneys. If your lawn is not silky smooth this mower with its speed and large bouncy front tires starts to jump around quite a bit. I think some sort of suspension/shock absorption would be nice in the future. It came on a nice metal pallet and took me less than 20 minutes I had it off the pallet and running. It also came about 3 days sooner than the projected date which was nice. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

We have just over one acre and can mow it with 50% battery capacity remaining when finished. It's fast, fairly easy to drive once you get used to it (our first zero-turn mower), and cuts very well. Low noise is a bonus. I'd rate it as excellent for mowing but did have two small issues: 1) my 15 yr old daughter bent the steel brake pedal bracket to the point that the lock couldn't engage: wasn't pushing in-line enough with the pedal travel I guess - her mistake - but the thickness of that bracket shouldn't allow a 15 yr old girl to easily bend it. I bent it back and seems OK. 2) the external charger appears to have a small ground fault. Popped my barn GFCI when started charging the first time, works OK when I put in a 2-to-3 prong converter plug to isolate from ground. Not a good long term solution obviously, so pursuing fix/replacement with Ryobi. And a very minor note: USB charging port is nice, but it has no cover and is mounted in a horizontal panel - will fill with dirt/dust unless you leave a cable plugged in, or put tape over it. Cover or small dummy plug on a lanyard would be improvement.

I compared Gas Vs. Electric, Features, and upkeep. I'm VERY glad I chose to buy this one. I have since used it to mow my lawn several times, and am very pleased with it's performance. My yard consists of roughly 3.5 acres of "mowable" area, with several small hills and valleys and tree-beds scattered throughout. Not only did the mower do a great job, but at the end of cutting the entire lawn, I STILL had 35% left on the battery. Really impressive! I also purchased the optional Dual-Bagger kit to collect the grass, but have yet to use it. Primarily because the mower does such a great job of mulching so as to leave little to no grass as you mow. I also purchased a small utility trailer to connect to the back of the mower. This has been a god-send as it has allowed me to do some serious pruning and clearing of large areas in the back yard. I've been able to load up the trailer full of tools, drive them to the work-site, and when I'm done, it's just one trip back to the garage to put everything away. A huge timesaver! One last note...this mower is incredibly powerful. During my pruning, I was cutting HUGE branches off some of the large trees. I would then stack the branches into piles, tie them together with a tow-rope, and connect the other end to the back of the mower. It had POWER-TO-SPARE in hauling the large piles of branches, and it didn't even break a sweat! All in all, a very nice piece of equipment...I will get a ton of use out of it!

Same width as old gas mower, yet 15 mins faster due to zero turn maneuverability. AMAZING CUT!!! The two times I've used it, the grass had grown for 2 weeks each time. Didn't bog down once, compared to old gas mower which would have bogged down on at least 1/3 of the yard. Doesn't cut like gas mower, doesn't pull grass up then cut, but rather cuts what's standing up. Has made yard greener and thicker. Only as loud as a big fan. Rides great and very comfortable. Only 0.5 acre yard, 70% battery left. Seems to 'hang' longer at 70%, than when at higher %'s. Very sturdy build. Friends have commented that it is better built than their 50+ inch name brand zero turns. Only maintenance is keeping it clean and blades sharp. Otherwise, keep it on the charger between mows. Price tag is a bit steep, debated for a year before pulling trigger to buy. Has been worth every penny to me and haven't even had it a month yet.

For my 1.5 acres it takes 60 minutes with Ryobi 0 turn mower compared to almost 2 hours with my previous lawn tractor. Battery life has been very good with 45-50% charge left after completing the job. I run high ground speed and high blade speed with no worries about being able to finish the job. The mower does a great job leaving a very even cut. There are a few issues though. 1. There's no 12 volt accessory outlet to power a tow behind sprayer. I had to fabricate a way to mount a battery on my sprayer to be able to use it. I also added a foot switch to control the on/off for the pump. 2. Traction for the rear tires is very poor but that's expected with the turf tires. When mowing low angle slopes lengthwise the rear of the mower has a tendency to want to slide down hill. The tires will also spin when going uphill on some of my yard. To fix this I replaced the rear wheels with some with a more aggressive tread. I just have to be more careful now when turning as to not tear up my lawn, but I can live with that. 3. The drive motors are under powered for some of the inclines in my yard. Even with full throttle the mower slows down about 30% going uphill. Bottom line though this is a great mower.

So far (2nd use) everything its hyped to be. 1.25 acres cut in 1/2 the time of tractor (38"), great clean cut, higher cutting height is beneficial. Very quiet of course. Powered with home solar, no fluids, quality build, good warranty - what's not to like? Whole yard used ~50% charge. ZTR takes a little getting used to, but not much. Nits: the rubber bumper strips on the cutting deck came off - looked like they were taped on. Assembling drive bars needed a little adjustment to be sure they're even. Need to reset to neutral when transitioning from reverse to forward (sometimes). Drive wheels can tear up soft turf when turning tight, function of ZTR and high torque I suspect. All in all, great mower. Expecting it to last at least a decade, planning on one battery replacement at 5 years.

I am totally impressed with the Ryobi 42” 100 Ah electric zero turn mower. I received it today and put it to the test. It was well packaged and came in perfect condition. It was very easy to assemble. The video on the Home Depot site was very helpful. This mower is very high quality. I have used zero turn gas mowers for many years. This mower goes really fast and mows really well at that speed. It is quiet enough so that I don’t need to wear my ear protection. It’s about as loud as my vacuum cleaner, which is pretty quiet. It’s almost silent when the blades aren’t running. The deck lift and the parking brake are effortless to use. The charger has plenty of cord. The seat is super comfy. It came 100% charged and I did a lot of mowing and it was only at 65% when I pulled in the garage. I have nothing bad to say about it. There are no gas fumes. There are no belts to break and no oil to add. I was hesitant to purchase this mower because there were none to look at in the stores, but I took a chance on the reviews and I’m so glad I did! Now mowing is going to be fun!
