Need to work the bugs out
I loved the idea of going battery powered. Unfortunately this mower was faulty right from the start. The blades would shut off about 15 minutes into mowing. Ended up returning the mower and buying a gas powered ZTR.

Battery life… you mean dead battery
We have just hit the one year mark with our Zero Turn Ryobi. What started out as a great product has, within one year, turned into a costly paper weight. The charge indicator is never accurate, and the mower will randomly shut off well before the 20% and try to throw you off the mower. It also never starts at 100%, usually 70%.
What was once a one charge now around my acre of land now takes several charges. Today I got 11 minutes. ELEVEN MINUTES. So that’s just fantastic. Ryobi must assume that all I want to do is charge and mow my lawn for several days at a time. (For reference no, I want to get it done and over with in one go, thanks).
We have been in contact with Ryobi’s warranty department which has offered several ideas but no solutions. FYI the battery is only warrantied for one year because they know it’s trash. We have contacted the local mower place to have them check it out only to be told do not bother bringing it in because Ryobi will not tell them how to service this product!
Well played Ryobi on putting a product to market with no true warranty services or help.

Ryobi needs to work the bugs out
I had high hopes for this mower and really liked the idea of a move to green products. I have been switching all my yard tools over to battery powered and thought this would be a great mower since Ryobi battery powered tools have been great to me. Bought the mower while on sale and was pleased with the savings. The mower arrived on a pallet and was easy to assemble. Plugged it in and charged it overnight. Went to use it and noticed the blade engage knob and battery power gauge were damaged during shipping, something I hadn't noticed before. Got on the phone to Ryobi customer service and they were very responsive and pleasant. They sent the replacement parts free of charge and I installed them once they arrived. Here's where things went south. Blades shut down after 15 to 20 minutes of usage. The gauge indicated 90% battery life left, but the blades wouldn't spin. The mower moved fine and I drove it back in the garage. Hooked the charger up overnight and same thing the next day. Called customer service and they recommended I take it back to Home Depot as it was new. So that's what I did. Got a refund and thought maybe I got a lemon and would order another one just like it, until I read the reviews of buyers having the same issues. The dates of most of the reviews were in the timeframe of my purchase. This has me rethinking another purchase. I really wanted to love this mower, and did enjoy the quiet operation the short time it would work. The mower seems well built, attractive, but I think some bugs need to be worked out before I invest $4,000 in another Ryobi.

Buy another brand do not buy the Ryobi
I just bought this mower and used it three times on my front lawn, which is made up of St Augustine grass). The third mow the mower completely stopped and wouldn’t move. I look underneath and the blade is completely bent toward the ground.
I have three people life it up and put it in my garage thinking I’ll just buy a new replacement blade. The replacement blades come and we try to take off the blade only the right blade’s bolt is tightened so tight that it’s impossible to get it off. Now I’m sitting here with a 4K zero turn lawn mower that doesn’t work. I feel like this was the worst Purchase I’ve ever made at Home Depot and a total piece of crap that Ryobi built.
I’ve tried calling Ryobi but they are off after 5 pm on Fridays and closed during the weekends. I’m so aggravated I can’t see straight right now. What do I do with a 3 week old lawn mower that doesn’t work Ryobi????

I purchased this set-up about 3 weeks ago (100ah with bagging kit) and it is just amazing. I am replacing a Craftsman LT2000 tractor type riding mower with a 46" deck. The zero turn set-up is so much fun to drive and much more maneuverable than the standard riding mower... even with a smaller deck I was able to mow my 1/2 acre in nearly half of the time due to minimal backtracking and added control. The bagging system works well for grass and even doubled as a leaf vacuum a few days ago!
I have mowed 2 of my neighbors lawns just for fun... and to see how long the battery will last. My current estimation is I can get about 2 acres out of a single charge, but that is with me being a novice zero turn operator. I presume I will get more efficient and the range will be greater as my skill increases. I can not overstate how much fun this thing is to drive... I am continually looking forward to lawn work day now when I use to just deal with it. It is almost completely quiet when the blades are turned off and is significantly quieter than my neighbor's gas powered zero turn... speaking of him; after he mowed his front yard with my Ryobi he is now looking at selling his Husqvarna zero turn to get a Ryobi too.
As far as value goes... I think it is a reasonable deal, but if you can get it on sale or with a promo then snatch it up as fast as you can. I have 0 buyer's remorse with this thing!

I bought this product in May 2020, I have owned it about 2 1/2 months as of today. I have used it about 15 times so far and charge it right after I use the mower and leave it charged until I use it again. About 60% of the time the mower blades stop working While riding it and I notice the battery is about 65%. I’m not sure why it’s doing that. I have to turn off the key and switch it on again before the blades starts rotating again. I like the mower all in all except for this malfunction. The mower is agile mulching and bagging attachments are great but bulky. I hope Ryobi fixes this blade rotation problem.

I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome in both wrists a few years back, and it was getting harder and harder to turn the steering wheel on my John Deere lawn tractor. I had been wanting to get a zero-turn-radius mower for a while so I could push and pull the steering bars instead of turning a steering wheel. I finally took the plunge when the Ryobi 42-inch 75 Amp-hour electric riding zero-turn mower went on sale in May 2020. It arrived on June 3 and was in perfect condition. It took me about an hour to assemble it and drive it off the shipping pallet. Learning how to steer with the push-pull bars was an adventure at first, but I got the hang of it by using the slow speed setting, as recommended by Ryobi. I have to say, I wish I'd purchased a zero-turn mower a long time ago! Once I learned how to steer my ZTR mower, it was almost a pleasure to cut my grass! I live on a corner lot, so I had to drive my old John Deere out into two roads to turn around at the end of a row. But my Ryobi ZTR mower turns on a dime and eliminates that danger. Also, the new mower has cut the time to mow my yard from about 60 minutes to about 35 minutes. I couldn't be happier with my purchase, and I would highly recommend this mower to anyone who wants to take significant minutes off the time it takes to cut the grass. The only thing that might eventually concern me is cleaning the mower deck, and it's really only a minor concern. Because the mower is electric, I can't use any water to clean the underside of the deck. I actually haven't cleaned it yet, but I'll see how it goes when the time comes. I liberally sprayed a teflon-style non-stick spray onto the underside of the deck, the blades and the discharge chute before I cut the grass the first time, and so far it seems to keep the grass from building up too much. So I really have no complaints at all about this mower. Again, if you're thinking of getting a ZTR mower, this is the one. No gas, no oil, no exhaust. Just plug it in, charge it up, and go! Well done, Ryobi!

In May 2018, I purchased the Ryobi Riding Mower, as we had just purchased a home with a large yard and I am very into the whole electric thing. I do not own anything gas powered. My car, lawn mower, bike, tools, etc. are all electric. I hate dealing with gas and oil and spark plugs and belts. Yada, yada, yada. The convenience of electric is so incredible and nowadays, they are more than powerful enough for all of your needs. At the time I purchased the Riding Mower, I was looking for a Zero Turn, but it didn't exist (yet). April 2019 rolls around and sure enough, Ryobi came out with a Zero Turn Electric Riding Mower... so I bought a 2nd Mower. lol. I ended up selling the Riding Mower at a minor loss, but in the end, it was well worth it as I got the product I ultimately wanted. I like to think of the loss I took on the Riding Mower as my rental fee for that first year. Regardless, the fact that I owned a Ryobi electric Riding Mower for a year and then spent several thousand on a 2nd one is a testament to the product line. The Zero Turn Mower is fantastic... all of the things I had hoped for. As with any Zero Turn, it takes a mow or two to get the hang of driving it, but after that, it's second nature. The machine itself is built very well. It comes delivered on a steel pallet and there is minor assembly (attaching the handles and seat). My only gripe with the construction is that the sides are made of plastic. Sometimes, when sitting down and getting situated on the mower, I will use my hand to lower myself down. The only place to put your hand is on the plastic part, which you can feel bend a little bit. If it were all metal construction, I could easily lean on it without fear of breaking anything. Other that that... the machine feels very solid and performs very well. I am able to zip back and forth around my lawn and cut with ease and my lawn looks amazing. No missed spots or weird patches. I make a point not to cut wet grass, as is just good practice with any electric mower. I do have an ongoing issue with the battery meter. After my first few mows, the meter stopped showing 100% when fully charged. It would top out at 70%. I called Ryobi, as they said it was probably just the gauge and they shipped me out a new gauge. I swapped it out and initially, it read 100%. Sure enough, after the first mow, it topped out at 70% again. At this point, Winter was coming, so I packed it away for the Winter (plugged in) and planned to revisit it in the Spring. Spring came and it was doing the same thing. Since the battery warranty is only 1 year (the rest of the unit carries a 3 year warranty), I wanted to get this addressed ASAP, as I feared it was a battery issue. I called Ryobi back and they referred me to a local service center, who came and picked the unit up from me for evaluation. Upon inspection, they said they couldn't find anything wrong with the batteries, and acknowledged that the gauge was sporadic. They ultimately replaced the charger for me (I think they just wanted to be able to say they did SOMETHING). Sure enough, the problem persisted. I ultimately stumbled upon an online forum where other people were reporting the same exact thing. It appears that the gauge just isn't very accurate, but doesn't ultimately affect the battery. When I'm done mowing, my mower will say 25% remaining. I let it sit outside while I trim and then come back to it to blow it off with the leaf blower before putting it back and plugging it in. When I come back to it, it then reads 45-55%. Clearly, the gauge just can't get a real-time, accurate read on the true battery status. That part was very frustrating, but in the end, it doesn't really affect the actual performance of this machine, so I can look past it as long as I know that I didn't get bad batteries. I've never run out of juice while mowing, so that's ultimately all I care about. I don't really use the lights or the phone charger, so I can't really comment on those, although I tested both and they both seemed to work as they should. I have tried hooking a small tow cart (8 cubic feet) up to the hitch mount in the back and was able to tow that around without any issues. I towed stuff back and forth from the garage to the shed and even sat my wife in the back and pulled her around without any issues. I also ended up buying the bagger for this unit, which I am also very happy with (the bagger isn't perfect, but works as it should - please see my detailed review on the bagger page for more details). Overall, I would definitely purchase this unit again and wouldn't have any problems recommending it to a friend. I really enjoy the ease and freedom of electric. Obviously, this wouldn't be good for commercial use, as you would definitely run out of juice after 2 or 3 jobs... but for standard homeowner use of an acre or so, it's perfect.

This thing rocks. I have almost an acre and usually finish it in about 35min and with 85% left on the battery. It's a very even cut too. Definitely need it on slow speed to do around things like fences, gardens, sheds, and swingsets, but flat out you can turn and burn. I don't have anything bad to say yet, it is exceeding my expectations, I have used it 5 times now. ONLY thing I had an issue with was getting ahold of customer service to find out when it was going to be delivered, I think it was about an hour on hold then they really didn't have any info for me other than what was on the website. I actually found more information inside the app then I did on the computer website.

This mower is the first step to the future of electric zero-turn riding mowers. I step on, turn the key and go. Powerful, smooth, quick, and quite with the added benefit of no gas, oil, or fumes. Don't ever have to worry about belts or oil filters either. Even charges my phone and lights the ground in front of me on those occasional twilight mows! Just plug it in and forget about it.... until my next mow.

I have owned and operated this mower for 6 weeks. The very first use put the cutting ability to the test because the grass had grown thick and tall exceeding 6 inches easily. The blades had no trouble cutting through. The ride is smooth, the control bars for steering are well placed allowing you to sit back in comfort on the comfortable and ideally sized seat. The mower responds well to the slightest change in positioning the steering/power bars. The design of the control buttons allow for low or high speed driving and low or high speed cutting and the battery power gauge provides accurate indication of remaining battery power. The safety feature for disengaging the blade operation that is built into the seat works well. The mower is whisper quiet when just driving; with the blades engaged in low speed I did not even need to wear noise suppression headgear. I recommend using them for high speed if cutting a longer time period. I was able to easily mow the grass which is in the range of 2.5-3.0 acres on one charge. The mower was packaged well; batteries were fully charged, tire pressure inflation was precise. I have not mowed in the evening so I cannot comment on the headlamps but they appear to be adequate. Charging hook up is easy and completes as specified. Nice cup holders and storage compartments. Came with 3 sets of keys and a free bagging system which I have not yet installed. Mower deck height adjustment is simple, provides sufficient levels, and operates well. Overall, it has a sturdy design that should last well if cared for as described. If you want to eliminate gas and oil as well as noise, this is a suitable model to own. I looked at other mowers on the market but no other existing models were as well built, designed and tested as this one.

Happy the first month
The mower has worked well cutting the grass smooth and sharp. The small battery lasts cutting our one acre lawn. There are 15 trees to work around with no problem, requiring much less work with he weed whacker. The mower is so much fun to ride that my wife has assumed all the cutting chores (Happy Father's Day!)

Have used the Ryobi electric riding mower for a month and are very happy, so far... cut is smooth and even, ride is comfortable and the charge ( with the smaller battery) lasts for the entire acre we need to cut. We have twenty trees to trim around and the zero-turn mower cuts clean and has eliminated the need to use the weed wacker. We ordered the mower on a Monday, were told by HD we would have it in 2-3 weeks, and it was delivered that Friday. It is so much fun to ride that my wife has taken over all the mowing responsibilities (Happy Father's Day!)

Perfect for my yard
I have had this mower for two weeks now and I could not be happier with it. I mow about 1 acre, so no range issue. The cut is equal or better than my previous zero turn and gets the job quicker with no gas/oil to deal with. Not breathing exhaust is a bonus.

Overall we're very happy with this mower. We have just over one acre and can mow it with 50% battery capacity remaining when finished. It's fast, fairly easy to drive once you get used to it (our first zero-turn mower), and cuts very well. Low noise is a bonus. I'd rate it as excellent for mowing but did have two small issues: 1) my 15 yr old daughter bent the steel brake pedal bracket to the point that the lock couldn't engage: wasn't pushing in-line enough with the pedal travel I guess - her mistake - but the thickness of that bracket shouldn't allow a 15 yr old girl to easily bend it. I bent it back and seems OK. 2) the external charger appears to have a small ground fault. Popped my barn GFCI when started charging the first time, works OK when I put in a 2-to-3 prong converter plug to isolate from ground. Not a good long term solution obviously, so pursuing fix/replacement with Ryobi. And a very minor note: USB charging port is nice, but it has no cover and is mounted in a horizontal panel - will fill with dirt/dust unless you leave a cable plugged in, or put tape over it. Cover or small dummy plug on a lanyard would be improvement.

I was very impressed by this mower! Until this point I have only used commercial lawn equipment (Exmark, Toro, Stihl, etc.) and have been very impressed! The batteries do limit your cutting capabilities as far as distance goes but it hasn't had any problems getting through thick grass. When the 75AH batteries give out I will probably buy the 100AH to give myself a little more cutting time. Excellent product! I also have the 40V hand tools from Ryobi and have been very impressed with those as well! Happy customer here!

I've had the mower for a few weeks now and mowed my 2 acre yard twice. Can you LOVE a mower? Apparently I can. This is my first zero turn, so that has been a big improvement from my old 12yo JD L130 (which had been having transmission problems). Zero turn saves me a ton of time since I'm no longer "setting up" to mow a path--I'm always mowing grass, not wheeling around. In addition, this mower can cut everything in my yard without re-mowing it (new blades and better design make that happen). Those two things save me about an hour. Then there's the speed: this mower can mow at full speed on the low setting and not miss a blade of grass.
I have quite few Ryobi tools and have been happy with them, so while I was a little concerned about buying a brand new 1st-year model, the most expensive mower I've ever bought, and electric vs. gas, I was pretty sure Ryobi would get this right. They have been selling a traditional riding mower and other battery power stuff for a long time, so I figured the odds were in my favor.
The high points:
* I ordered online and had the mower delivered to my driveway. I had it out of the "crate" and bolted together in about an hour by myself.
* It came almost fully charged. I read all the directions, so I charged it overnight before using it the first time.
* My 2 acres mow in 1 hour with 50% of the battery left vs. 2+ hours and 3 gallons of gas with my tired JD. Start off using the low speed button and keep it under control and keep in mind that if you turn the mower off, the low speed button switches back to high speed.
* The design is sharp and clever. I use one of the bins to hold my phone while using bluetooth earbuds. Two cup holders. USB charger. Simple controls. Everything makes sense. I also really like the colors.
* The LED headlights are bright enough to use when it gets dark while you're finishing up or joy-riding around after an evening mow.
I would highly recommend this mower to anyone who wants to have fun mowing their lawn while going zero turn, zero emissions.
Ryobi, can you build an electric car this fun? A two-seater sports car with a 90 mile range would do it.

I sold my poulan pro which i bought last year for this. Neighbors are amazed how quiet this thing is. Even that blades are very loud comparing to motors in lawn mower but it still a lot quieter than any gas engine machine. Not a huge fan of ryobi stuff (had a few tools that i traded in for makita) but this thing so far is pretty good. Still have to figure out what is the appropriate way to clean it. I have only .5 acre so after mowing the yard i still have 70-80% of charge left.

This mower is amazing. It previously took me approximately 90 minutes to mow my entire one-acre yard because of the number of obstacles to mow around; however, this mower has greatly decreased the time it takes to cut the more complicated sections of my yard. It was easy to assemble and the instruction video was very helpful.
I'm giving this mower a 3 out of 5 because of battery life (see below) but it would deserve a 5 out of 5 if I did not have so many issues with poor battery life.
My major complaint is that the battery life is not living up to the claims of other reviewers. My mower lost 10% of its battery life in 7 minutes of use. The battery life then dropped an additional 5% after 4 minutes more of use, which brought the remaining battery life to 85%. This occurred while using the mower in low speed cut in an attempt to preserve battery life
-Photo #1: Taken when powering on at 5:46pm on Wednesday, July 10. [100% battery]
-Photo#2: Taken at 5:53pm on Wednesday, July 10. [90% battery]
-Photo #3: Taken at 5:57pm on Wednesday, July 10. [85% battery]
After about four uses of stopping around 30% battery life to charge the mower and finish the next day, I tried to finish mowing my property in one go. By the time I finished mowing my one-acre property, my battery life dropped to 15%. I don't allow the areas of my yard that I mow to become overgrown and I was using the mower in low-speed cut. I understand that my 75aH mower will not have as much juice as the 100aH but nearly running out of battery life to cut a one-acre yard seems like an unreasonable difference. I should also point out that I have followed all of the instructions for proper battery care (i.e. I charged the mower for 10+ hours before its first use; I leave it continually charging when not in use).
I considered returning the mower because of the battery life but decided against it because it does have many great qualities.
-No more gas and tedious maintenance.
-It's amazingly quiet when the blades are disengaged. A few of the children in my neighborhood have stopped in awe that a lawnmower can drive around without making noise. I haven't tested it at night because there are multiple families in my neighborhood with young children and I would rather not test their patience.
-It moves FAST. I highly recommend putting the mower in low-speed drive the first few times you use it, regardless of whether or not you have experience driving a zero-turn mower. You will be amazed at how quickly this machine moves. (I don't steep inclines to mow, so I cannot speak on its ability to continue moving at a rapid pace when mowing on a large incline).
-Extremely ergonomic. I'm 6'4 and I have (for the first time in my life) had to scoot the seat forward to sit comfortably. The chair is also very comfortable and has a high back that makes sitting in this a joy. I've caught myself sitting in the seat while attempting to read through plans for various shop projects.
-Battery life is problematic (see above)
Poor rear wheel traction that cannot handle the incredible torque of the machine.
-When both lap bars are fully engaged, my mower pulls to the left. This has been happening ever since I carefully drove it off of the metal frame it was shipped on.
-The ride is generally smooth but you will bounce around more than usual on bumpy areas in your yard. I assume it has something to do with the seat suspension but it hasn't bothered me enough to do much about it (yet).
-I understand why you cannot power wash this machine but I spent an additional 45 minutes cleaning out caked grass from my tires (lawn was not as dry as it appeared to be).
Overall, this is an amazing mower and I do not regret my purchase. Am I disappointed in the battery life? Of course. I catch myself "rubber necking" every 2 minutes to ensure that I'm not about to suddenly run out of juice. However, it's user friendly, ergonomic, and powerful, which are all things I am genuinely happy about. Furthermore, the added benefit of no longer smelling like gasoline or walking into the house feeling the terrible aftereffect of the mower’s vibration is enough to keep me satisfied. I finally look forward to doing yard work again and I have recommended this mower to all of my friends and family.
Well done, Ryobi, well done.

This is my fourth ZT mower and probably the best. It took me a little longer to assemble then most of the other people because I was having fun doing it, double checking the manual and watching the blond woman on the video assemble hers. (I know I have to get a life). I would agree with another reviewer that it should default to low speed when starting instead of the other way around, but not a big deal. Now the mower is very quiet, however once the blades are turned on the volume is pretty loud, louder then I expected, probably due to the speed of the blades and I run them at the slow speed setting. As you can see from my picture in comes in an almost indestructable shipping container

Great mower, but battery degradation is an issue. RYOBI only covers the battery for 1 year. 1. Get the HD protection plan for $350 - This covers the batteries for years 2-3. 2. Purchase with Costco Citi card which extends HD protection plan by 2 years.

Very happy with the mower, transitioned from a gas/tractor style, and the advantages of electric and zero turn are obvious. Power, battery life and mowing capability are as advertised. Only downside is that the shortcomings with traction on hills and wet grass with a zero turn are also as advertised. If you have a property with a lot of slopes or frequently mow when it's wet, you might want to go another direction.
