Does this drill have a slip clutch? By slip clutch I mean does the clutch disengage, so the chuck stops turning, if the force required to drive the screw exceeds the clutch setting. I assumed all drivers did this, but this model doesn't seem to be doing that.
Asked by: Julie
If it has a series of numbers on a dial between the drill body and the chuck those are the adjustment numbers. Turn it to 1 and try it. The indicator that is shaped like a drill bit indicates full engagement no slip. If no dial you are looking at another model of drill.

Can I use this to remove car brake rotor screws easily ? or do i need a impact driver?

Can I use this to remove car brake rotor screws easily ? or do i need a impact driver?
Asked by: Arun
what is a brake rotor screw. One of the studs that hold the wheel on? One of the bolts that holds the caliper bracket onto the steering knuckle or the brake backing plate. Anyway no, this drill will not help, an impact wrench, even a manual one driven by a hammer instead of air or a battery, can help It can be a hard job, I had to use a torch and even cut and then use an oxy acetelyne torch to remove caliper bolts. Make sure your mechanic or you uses anti seize lubricant on caliper bolts to avoid this hassle.

5.5-Amp 3/8 in. Variable Speed Reversible Compact Clutch Driver is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 117.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it. I was going to buy a cordless drill machine but on the advice of a home depot associate, i bought a corded one and I am so glad i did. I dont have to worry about charging the battery or battery dying after 2 or 3 years. This should last a long time. I occasionally use it for home maintenance and it works perfectly for me. You do have to deal with extension cords in your home which is a hassle but considering that i wont use it daily, i am OK with that. for me the fact that corded drill machines last longer is more important. I have also talked to a few friends who are occasional users and have cordless drill machines and their issue is always the battery is not charged when they need the drill machine. the only issue is that due to the size, it is hard to drill in certain places. I used it to install blinds in my new home and making holes in some windows was challenging. also driving screws to install brackets was hard because the bracket would stop the driver from screwing completely.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great tool I upgraded to this drill driver after using a nicad battery that was slowly failing. The lithium battery makes such a big difference, and the ability to use the same battery in so many tools makes it easy to keep going and going.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great corded drill - no more dead batteries Finally a corded drill which is ergonomic and good for screws. I have another corded drill with the handle all the way on the back of the unit which makes it front heavy. I loved the balanced feel of battery powered drills, but never liked the idea of leaving a battery charging all of the time since I only use a drill occasionally (maybe once every month or two). This drill has great balance and a sensitive trigger which seems good for screws. The only thing I'm not super fond of is the fabric case with a zipper, however this is my first drill to have this and I imagine it's just a matter of getting used to. I have a metal case from an old Makita drill that I may move this Ryobi into.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good for the money This being my second Ryobi drill as my first one crapped out on me after heavy usuage over the last 10 years. I went with a corded drill again because i hate the idea of power loss, my father owns a makita cordless drill and it dies on me more than i care for. Its funny because he always borrows my drill but its a good drill for 40 dollargrip is comfortable, powerful and easily screws 3" decking screws with out hesitation. The only con I have bout this drill is that just like my last ryobi the bits sometimes slip but thats the con of any keyless chuck. Overall I love Ryobi wood working products I would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a dependable drill with a price that wont hurt the walet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why has no one thought of this before...? Electric drill/driver with a clutch...why is did no one think of this before? It drives 2 and 3" deck screws with ease + the clutch is easy to set. The grip perfectly fits my hand. The weight is about the same as a battery drill and because its corded...it never runs out of juice. This is my frustration with the battery tools I own. I have purchased several Ryobi tools over the years...my oldest ones are over 20 years old. As a DIY person and a wood shop teacher, the Ryobi brand/quality has served me well.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from GOOD CHEAP 110VOLT DRILL with adjustable clutch 110 volt drills with a clutch are hard to find. odd, when you consider every battery drill made has a clutch. at just under $40.00 the price makes this average quality drill a good buy. saying average quality when you compare it to an American product like Milwaukee. however, I've used the Ryobi drills for years, and even I you use it for a season, and throw it out, it has paid for itself. personally i'd pay 2 or 3 times as much for a good American drill with a clutch , if I could find one. then i'd have a tool for life.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Tool This is the Only corded drill with a clutch on the market. I'm never far from an electrical outlet so I prefer the extra power and simplicity of corded tools. The clutch is extremely useful when driving screws. I highly recommend this tool.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent for the Money I might be a pretty harsh critic, so let me say up front this is a pretty good drill for $40. However, this sucker heats up really quickly. You'd probably have something lame like a 15 minute/1 hour cycle for the drill to be operating optimally and avoid overheating (which isn't really going to happen). Also, there is a weird angle with the chuck so that it makes it harder to tell if you are perpendicular to a surface. Not a huge problem, but it's kind of weird. It works though, and the variable speed trigger and clutch are good to have. If you have the money, you might want a better drill. If you are on a stricter budget (like me) then this will get the job done, just slowly by comparison.
