Will this be great for cutting a 12 in by 24 in tiles

Will this be great for cutting a 12 in by 24 in tiles ?
Asked by: Jumplevels
I did our kitchen, hallway, & powder room in 12x24. This little saw did a nice job. I did start with a different blade after reading reviews before buying it. But it cut very well. I did have to free hand some cuts, but it was no worse than a 4x8 sheet of plywood on a table saw.

Does this come with a blade included or does it need to be purchased separately?

Asked by: JM
Comes with a cheap junk blade. Buy a diamond blade for it.

just bought the saw and I am having trouble the tile (white porcelain back splash chips at the very end of the cut. Why?
Asked by: scott
I have an earlier version of this saw, and have/had the same problems with plank porcelain tile (just re-did my bathroom). I don't think it's the saw, however, I did quite a bit of Googling when this was happening to me, and it seems to just be the very nature of porcelain tile. I do have the Dewalt diamond blade, which was a significant improvement over OEM blade. I basically found with porcelain that you have to cut very slow, and not cram the tile too tight against the fence. I cut even slower as I approach end of cut, periodically pulling tile back slightly then moving forward again. Still, sometimes they chip. I have found, not kidding, that if you can salvage the chip you can easily glue it back to the porcelain with Loctite super glue and no one will ever know!

Does this saw come with the stand it is sitting on in the pictures?

Asked by: grgsr
Oh, stand in picture is part of the saw. There is another stand that is available that is about 4 to 5 feet high.

7 in. 4.8 Amp Tabletop Tile Saw is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 391.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful Product I bought this saw and after 6 cuts new it was not the product for tile and returned it. The cut edge was jagged, it chipped the glaze on both ceramic and porcelain, there was too much vibration in the blade and the motor was not powerful enough. Don't bother buying it, you will only waste your time and will need to get a better saw anyway.

The tiles are 2 x 4 and 3/8 thick. As a rookie, I had a few rough tries and learned quickly as follows: Change the provided blade after some practice cuts, so you can appreciate the wisdom of all the reviews which said to do so; Take your time; Try to get the guide as square as you can for each different cut; By all means, keep the tile(s) firmly down on the surface; If you're cutting multiple, connected stones, as I did, keep your fingers holding down the tile being cut and the one entering the blade;Again, take your time through the cut. I got some small chipping (at the top only) as the cut completed - for stone at least, try turning tile upside down to place any chipping on the bottom but - yet again, take your time. My only real gripe about the quality is the difficulty in getting the guide square, but hey - the price. I bought it for the table space mostly. All other functions were fine. The cuts were smooth as silk. Wasn't nearly as messy as I feared.. Anyway the backsplash came out great and all cuts, including outlets, and around moldings, etc. came out perfect - just take your time. The saw now goes to Habitat for Humanity. The job is well done, and my wife will be bringing me the beers for at least a few weeks.

It is economical enough that I bought it for a single DYI job, a kitchen backsplash. Two things could be improved. The guide is hard to slide sideways to adjust to different cuts, and the user end of the guide protrudes above the table and lifts the tile (I am cutting 8 inch tiles). Once the cut is about an inch in, the tile drops back onto the table. The other thing is the switch. It is hard to locate, hidden beneath the table. I don't like having to take my eyes off the moving blade to find the off switch. It should be in sight when operating the blade.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My first tile saw Assembly was easy, taking about 10 minutes. The instruction manual is clear, but I didn't like flipping back and forth to look at the illustrations in the back. The most difficult part of the assembly was installing the splash guard bracket, where a magnetic screwdriver proved useful. Parts quality is good. Metal parts are stainless steel or aluminum. The rip fence locks securely. The table can be tilted to 45 or 22.5 degrees for bevel cuts. The cutting blade sits in the water reservoir, there's no pump or hose. There's a removable plug in the reservoir that also serves as an overflow to prevent overfilling. The power switch has a key that can be removed to lock the power switch. The saw cut smoothly, cutting 1/4" x 3 tiles in less than 10 seconds and leaving a clean edge. There was minimal splattering while cutting and cleanup was easy. Pulling the plug in the reservoir drain hole didn't empty all the water so it was easier to tip the tile saw to empty the reservoir. The cord comes out of the bottom on the front left side, making it a bit of a hassle to route it around the back to plug it in.

Happy with the design and function of the saw. I don't know if there are accessories available to extend the support area as this saw seems mostly suited for 12 x 12 and smaller tile. I had 6 x 24 tile and some cuts were easier to make than others, anything that required the piece to be bigger that 12 inches meant that some of the tile wasn't supported while cutting, but it did the job for me. Have had it just over 1 week and already cut tile for 2 bathrooms.

I agree to get a different blade than what was included. Made a big difference. But did exactly what I needed. Am a diy person who used It to instal backsplash. Was able to make good cuts on the tile and It handles really well. Just make sure to keep water basin filled and works just great. Like any saw juts go slow the blade will pull the tile along. Was able to make slim and precise cuts. Good investment for the price, will use again when I tile bathroom.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked great. Don’t trust the bad reviews. I admit that I get scared off from some bad reviews. So much so that i bought a manual tile cutter because of some good reviews. Long story short after a handful of tiles I took the manual cutter back and bought this Ryobi. Best thing i ever did. I have already made a few hundred cuts on both mosaic tiles and subway tiles. It has worked flawlessly with the same factory blade. The main thing to remember is too slowly feed the tile in. Don’t force it, let the saw do the work. And the chipped edges can be avoided by completely feeding the tile through even after the break. The side of the blade will smooth out the “chipped” edge. Also make sure to use the guard for consistent cuts. On smaller tiles I used cut off tiles on top of each side as I fed the tile through. This especially helped with the mosaic tile sheets. Lastly, it helps to cut the tiles upside down (rough side or webbing of mosaic facing up. Good luck. I am guessing that a lot of bad reviews are from less handy people blaming the tool instead of themselves .

Rated 4 out of 5 by from a pretty good deal for a decent saw. It's a decent saw. My cuts were reproducable to within 1/32nd of each other with the fence. The fence can be locked down unsquare so be sure to check it with a speed square against the metal edge. The fence works by gripping the plastic sides which causes them to buckle in but it's part of the design. I was cutting 6x18 subway tiles and it did great. thThere was some minor chipping but since the glaze is thick it's not noticable. I also smoothed the edges out with a stone for my outside edges. The tiles do get hung up as you feed it into the blade due to friction on the table top itself, water with a sponge helps this. One reviewer said to use a sponge to catch water pooling on the tile. This is definitely a good tip especially with 18 inch tiles when you rip them lengthwise. The water splashback is marginal as long as your cuts are on the short side. I actually picked up the QEP saw first and returned that asap once I saw the build quality and the fact that it was used and reboxed and returned. This saw had much better quality.
