8 in. Infrared Thermometer

i start my tomato seedlings in doors, covered by Saranwrap so there is no convenient way to measure temperature without majorly disturbing the setup so I decided to try this device. Works great at identifying hot/cold spots under the lamp which I use to keep them at appropriate temps during the night. The same issue applies now the I have removed the Saranwrap. I actually bought the device for measuring temps in my boats engine room and will still do that...come boating weather.

I had trouble putting the battery in but overall I'm satisfied I was worried my central air wasn't blowing enough cold instead I find out my windows and doors aren't insulated enough so I'm satisfied

I looked at several other IR thermometers... some half the price of the Ryobi... some double... triple. I decided on the Ryobi because of the brand. I own Ryobi tools. They stand behind their name. That's worth a few extra dollars. I used the thermometer on my Porsche transmission service. It was a service requiring precision, and Ryobi covered it. A+

I bought this to test the air temperature coming out of my vents. Our ac was going out and would work and then not, so I bought this for the peace of mind that I wasn’t imagining it. It read about 50 degrees when the air was in, and got up to the 90s when it was off. It was really handy and works great.

Although the price is great for a tool that used to be hundreds of dollars just a few years ago, there are better choices for less money like the Commercial Electric MS6520H. This unit is not very accurate as it can be off 7-9 deg F either way. This tool NEEDS a backlight, it's very hard to read in low light or at an angle (Commercial Electric MS6520H has one BTW) I had to carry around a flashlight so I could read the display. I'm not sure why the writeup on the website says that it has a "bright" display, it doesn't. After using the unit for about 3 min. it started to read deg. C. I turned off the unit to see if t would go back to deg F, but it didn't. I then opened the batt. compartment and there is a little cheap switch to change from C to F, I moved that back & forth a few times and then tried again...that did the trick. But then the next day it did the same thing, after a few min it went to C...I did the wiggle of the switch trick again, and it worked....but really, who wants to be fooling around with that all the time? I will return it and actually pay a little more for the Milwaukee as all my battery powered tools are Milwaukee & I really like them. Instructions are in English & Spanish. Items I've used it for (no particular order): 1. Checking around outside doors & windows for where the cold is coming in. If you hold down the switch you can get a continuous reading. 2. Checking the tires around my RV, truck & cars to see if there were any issues with brakes or tires 3. Checking my walls & ceiling for temperature variations where insulation might need to be added, or if insulation might have gotten wet or moved by varmints & is no longer working. 4. Checking components in an old amplifier, instead of blasting cold on them I used this tool to see if items that should be warm actually were warm. 6. Checking the temps of foods coming out of the microwave, although not super accurate, you can tell if you'll burn your mouth or not LOL!...or if it's still too cold& needs to go back in. 7. Checking the temp of my baseboard hot water heat to make sure there is no air pockets in the tubing. 8. Checked my pull down attic stairs to see how much heat I'm loosing with the current "tent" insulation I'm using...time to look for a better way! 9. After measuring...Realized how much heat I'm loosing with my whole house fan! I'll need to make a cover for that too. 10. Having had some recent HVAC work done at my home i wanted an infrared thermometer to check readings at various registers. Being mainly concerned with the drop in temp from intake to exhaust at register. It works great. I love the simplicity, just pull the trigger and get a reading. No settings to adjust or memory features, etc. I find it to be acurate within 1-2 degrees when compared to the readout at the thermostat. Being a relentless DIYer I have no problem spending good money on quality tools that will last. For this particular purchase i thought the simple inexspensive tool would to the trick and it certainly did!

The product seems to have a defect, it constantly switches from Farenheit to Celsius by it self. Probably will have to take it back to the store to change it for another one.

It worked ok im not too sure how accurate it was on the readings but still working with it.

Good temperature gun. Basic, but gets the job done. I use it for my snake and the IR gun is within a degree of the digital thermostat probe that is in the cage. It's also a fun toy for the kids to play with and see different cold spots in the house. Just point and squeeze the trigger.

I needed a IR thermometer so I grabbed this at the local HD and later bought a Kline IR1000. I was dong some AC work and measuring the basic temp split between return and supply so I took the opportunity to compare the Ryobi to the Kline. The Ryobi measures consistently 5-10 degrees higher than the Kline which I guess is within the specs for this unit. When I need accurate measurements I use a thermocouple and meter but when I'm taking a snapshot using an IR I would at least like to be somewhere close. The Kline is more expensive but it also has an accuracy of 1.5% so measuring 75 degrees it would be within a 1.125 degree swing not 5-10 degrees.
