Questions & Answers

How do I change batteries?

Asked by Coach November 28, 2020

The front portion near the laser pops off and allows access to the battery compartment.

How can I order a replacement rough surface adapter?

Asked by JR April 18, 2020

Not sure, probably just online.

Can you use this without the air grip feature? (laser level only)

Asked by Matt July 29, 2019

This will work on a non porous surface without the grippy pad.

How do You turn the laser on? The motor runs and it sticks to walk but can't get laser line

Asked by Sandi January 17, 2019

Slide the gray switch down for on. See picture

Can you move the level once its gripped on to a wall?

Asked by williamtaylor0102 July 12, 2018

Yes. The vacuum is strong, but you can make very small corrections to line up the laser. Of course, you can just turn off the suction pump and move the whole thing greater distances.

Anyone else get one without the mounting aid for textured surfaces?

Asked by Fred January 21, 2018

Mine was folded inside the instuction booklet

does this stick to the wall?

Asked by bree January 9, 2018

It does, but would require a pretty flat wall. The more texture you have, the harder it will be for it to stick.

I lost the gripper pad. Can I replace it?

Asked by trish June 29, 2017

No and I think that's a failure of Ryobi to have these. I called and they don't sell the gripper pad (mounting aid) as a replaceable part.

how do you load batteries?

Asked by Anton May 8, 2017

Pull off the cover. To load batteries make sure you use diagram on device. Notice for one battery the positive goes in one direction and the other it goes in the opposite way.

How well does it works on a Basement wall?

Asked by Larry March 16, 2017

Unless your basement wall has a smooth finish it probably won't work.

I have textured walls, and could find no way to make this stick. It works on smooth surfaces just fine. But even with the additional ring, it would never adhere to the walls of my house. BTW, the adaptor ring is folded in the instruction booklet in the bottom of the packaging. I almost didn't see it. Will be returning.

don’t bother
This is the ONLY way i could get it to stick to the wall! I swear the vacuum that is suppose to make it stick actually just vibrates it away from the wall making the laser only 2 feet long!

Great product
I don't give 5's but I did for this. The air suction works great. 20 foot beam. As your batteries fade the length of the beam will also. Don't blame the device. I have a grip problem and a muscle disorder. This made my project of hanging some paintings my Dad did (in his 70's with Parkinson disorder) a breeze. I added a photo so you could see the project.

This was an excellent addition to my Ryobi family. The suction works wonders and adheres to most surfaces.

Worked great for me
I was unsure about this product after reading reviews about how the vacuum would not suction the laser level to the uneven surfaces. I was almost ready to return it until i read the intructions (typical man move, according to my wife). I saw that by using the mounting aid it worked great on my textired drywall. It’s a basic tool and is only $30 so its nothing fancy but it got the job done for me.

Total waste of money. It does not shoot laser line if there is a bump in the wall. Laser is not able to handle highly textured walls. The airgrip does not consistenly adhere to the supplied pad. Further the constant on of the motor is so annoying! This product failed to meet my expectations and failed to do a simple job of facilitating stripes on a wall. I ended up having to measure with a tape and use a hand held level and 2nd person to help me. This product was useless.

I purchased this because my wife wanted me to paint an accent wall in our new nursery. Because said wall was going to be "buffalo plaid", it involved several straight lines in both directions. This thing was the VIP of the job and it came out great. Some reviews say that it is a little loud, which is true, but I kind of got used to it while using it and is totally worth it with not having to puncture the wall at all. I have relatively smooth walls, but I must say that the enclosed mounting aid made the grip much stronger and more importantly helped keep the line visible down the length of the wall. I've never used other wall-mounting laser levels, but I felt this was a great buy and I'd recommend for sure.
