Questions & Answers

How long will the battery last once charged?

Asked by: meme
Just bought mine two days ago and the battery life really sucks. Got about 10 minutes out of it before it died. I for sure would not buy another battery operated Ryobi anything again.

How well would this do on an acre yard?

I have 4 trees and a lot of edging. The biggest place I have to use a trimmer is the ditch bank at the back of my property. Will this trimmer handle a large area?
Asked by: SeaBeeDoc67
I realize that this question is 4 years old but, I have to add my 2 cents worth. I've had this trimmer for 3 years and it only gets used 3 months a year. We have a fenced acre with 5 trees, a couple lilac, several choke cherry, and two other bushes, the house, a large pole building and a 2 car garage... I don't think this is meant for such a lot of trimming. We get a lot of huge dandelions and other monster weeds that triple in size over the course of a week in this rural area! (LOL!) Anyway, thanks to my husband, who is a cross-country truck driver that is rarely home, I have become quite adept at tearing this thing apart, fixing it, and putting it back together. The little motor gets really hot so...I'd let it cool off a bit after 20-30 minutes of continuous use. 1st problem the 1st season, was that the wires broke off of the motor. I put screws into where the wires connected and soldered the wires to the screws. (Never thought THAT would work! The blobs of solder are almost marble size now, after doing this repair 7 or 8 times) THEN, I found that the motor can vibrate itself to death so, I put some thin, rubber strips around the motor where the case holds it in place. This made the wire repairs last longer. The wire feed quit working last year but, it isn't a big deal to turn it over and manually feed it. However, this last weekend, it won't hold any amount of wire on the spool anymore. It all comes out and gets wrapped around the motor. (Took it apart 3 times to try and fix it.)I think it's due to a newly, worn through, broken, flat, piece of thick plastic, that goes into a slot to hold the bottom of the motor in place. I can't fix it any more. No parts available. It's had a lot of issues but, I think I got my money's worth! It took three batteries to do my whole yard, by the way.

you have two lithium batteries, regular and heavy duty. what come with this unit?
Asked by: Ray1
Thank you for asking Ray1. This string trimmer and edger kit comes equipped with a Ryobi 18 volt 1.3 amp hour battery. You could get a higher amp hour battery at Home Depot. I hope this helps and we appreciate your interest in Ryobi! -Keri

Asked by: ISmellGood
Hello ISmellGood! No, this trimmer has an auto-feed head and cannot be used with a metal blade. You can purchase bladed trimmer heads (ACFHRL2) in store or online. Thanks for the question!

This garden and lawn maintenance tool has more than met my expectations. I have had this tool for about one month and have already used it a lot in my yard. This little light to medium weed destroyer/lawn trimmer is fantastic. For the money it cannot be beat! I added this to my Ryobi collection of battery powered tools and am very satisfied. I am able to interchange my Ryobi batteries with it, giving me lots of operating time. I am in a new home and bought it to rid the yard of a build up of weeds. I used three fully charged batteries to do the entire job without having to pause for one battery to charge (although the charge time is only about one hour). I love the string advance feature using the on off switch, much better than other methods on past trimmers that I have owned. This is a good purchase. I recommend it to anyone, especially seniors and physically disadvantaged that don't want to wrestle a heavy gas operated (smelly and polluting) trimmer.

I normally go straight to the EGO brand when it comes to electric/cordless lawn equipment but I'm so glad I gave Ryobi a chance with this product. I couldn't believe how long the battery lasts (compared to the Ryobi blower) and having the dual trimmer/edger capability for this-low price point makes this product a no brainer. I've only used it twice since buying it in the Spring of 2019 but I can't wait to use it more. This product exceeded my expectations.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great deal! I had a One+ 18 V blower and purchased this to get an extra battery and charger. The charger and battery which would cost around $60 stand alone so getting the trimmer with it was a neat bonus. With the two batteries it's possible to trim and blow clean a pretty large yard with several hundred feet of edging by swapping the batteries as you work. The trimmer is basic, simple with a single string and manual string release. But that keeps it simple. It's light enough that you can easily flip it over and pull out more string. Putting in a new sting is cheap and easy. Second time I refilled the trimmer string only took 5 min. It's not strong enough to be a weed wacker, but it's fine for edging sidewalk and bed borders. While not huge in power, it is very light and easy to handle. If you need a Paul Bunyan trimmer, this isn't your machine, but if you're a home gardener that just needs a quick lawn edge trimmer get, the blower and trimmer!

My 1st time to use an electric trimmer & I have to say the electric one is superior to the gas one. Here is why: 1) easy to start, just press a button & its ready to go. Gas model has a specific sequence u have to follow & pulling a string to start it is not as easy as u think. 2) easy to use, its so light & power enough for my small yard. For me with arthritis, I no longer need to struggle before, during, & after each use. My elbows & fingers were in pain when I used the gas one. 3) recharging the battery is easier than to buy gas. I also no longer need to smell gas when the gas container is inside the car. 4) replacing the trim line is like eating a piece of cake, remove the old & replace with a new cartridge that has the trim line all set up for u. The only dislike I have is the battery-it only lasts 15 min. If u want to buy a better one, its very expensive. If u have a big yard, u will definitely need a second battery or u just wait, watch an episode of ‘Friends’ for the battery to recharge. Overall, it makes my life easier due to my arthritis.

I purchased mine last year and loved it, BUT, it would just stop, not slow down as battery needed charging. This year I'm using it and it just STOPPED. I recharged the battery, green light on charger, READY I thought. NOT !! I called the company and was asked for serial # on product, asked for the model # of battery, I gave both. To MY SURPRISE I was told the Battery was older than the trimmer and they did not match one another. I shared that I purchased everything together. The agent had nothing to say except sorry, we can't do anything for you. How do products supposedly get packaged to work properly that don't match usage criteria by an agent on phone when you call to get assistance with a problem. I had a nice taste about RYOBI. I care for my things, no abuse and keep clean. What would you do ?? Annulment or Remarry ?? I've been on gov't assistance for several years and can't afford to keep buying things that the manufacturer's rep says sorry and can't try to assist in any way possible except to tell me I purchased something that the parts don't match. Thanks

The power button is also the cord advance button, so anytime you pause or stop using the trimmer, about 3/4" of cord is released and the next time you start it back up, it gets snipped off. So if you trim one area, pause, trim another area, pause, etc., you can burn through a huge amount of cord. Even if you're using it continuously, there's no reason new cord needs to be released between uses. Cord should only be released 1) when manually requested or 2) when a short cord is detected by the machine. Releasing new cord automatically every time the power button is operated is bizarre...I don't understand why anyone likes this product as designed. Am I missing something?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful product! Needed something light that I could grab quickly and get the job done. I didn’t have too high of expectations when purchasing but I couldn’t have been more wrong! This is the best weedeater I have ever owned! I have had it quite few months now and really worked it out. It is perfect for me being a 55 year old woman for starters. It is perfect for a mobile home with skirting as it does not break it and you can get right up on it. Although it isn’t made for this type of work, I have used it in the pasture around a half acre pond and took out little trees that I never thought it could handle! The only suggestion I have to make is to invest in an additional battery. The one that comes with it lasts about 30 minutes. The alternate batteries purchased separate last WAY longer! I move very quickly and have more than above average to trim and wipe it out in an hour to an hour in a half. Would definitely recommend this and would buy again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Despite other reviews After weeks of online research I decided to buy the ryobi One. This machine had a ton of mixed reviews and a large amount of one star reviews. But in truth there was no other light weight weed eater that we could find that was battery powered and on a budget. Unlike a lot of the reviews we have yet to have a problem with automatic string feeder. Infact after 11 uses on our large yard that has a ton of edging and thick saint Augustine grass we are still on the same spool Machine came with. I am really surprised because by now with our old Troy built we would have had to replace the role. It's light weight design makes it super easy to use on my husbands back. I have also found I can use it on days when my RRMS is acting up. We absolutely love this little machine. It can cut through anything. My only one complaint would have to be battery life. Battery only last about an hour. However the machine is worth purchasing a second battery with how well it preforms. I honestly did not expect this much bang for the buck !!!
