Questions & Answers

How many in this forum have owned their Ryobi hedge trimmer for more than one season, or have used it for more than one season?

I read a comment from someone in the forum how the hedger died after using it a '2nd time.' I'd like to know before I buy this product. Although, I own an electric edger and I've used a 2nd season now and I'm happy with that purchase. The person who posted the blog didn't exactly say how his trimmer led to 'burning out. Like, was he cutting a really thick branch?
Asked by: Tony
I bought the P2600A version of this trimmer in 2008 and it died a slow death starting about 3 years ago until it finally quit (issue was the gear housing on the bottom of the trimmer becoming loose when its metal screws vibrated and stripped the plastic they engaged into; with loose bottom housing, the gears were no longer held in place properly. Duct tape around the entire assembly kept it on life support for a year). Simply having metal screws engage into a metal hole would have kept this unit going...probably and extra 10 cents a unit cost Ryobi saved.

Will the 18-volt trimmer work with my current Lithium 18v batteries I currently have for my other Ryobi Products?

Asked by: checker
Thank you for asking, Checker. Since all of our Ryobi 18volt tools, batteries, and chargers are interchangeable, you are able to use any Ryobi 18volt battery with this hedge trimmer. However, please note that the batteries that have a higher amperage will give you more run time and a little more power. I hope this helps and we appreciate your interest in Ryobi! -Keri

I've used my cordless hedge trimmer at the most, 2 hours at a time and the battery indicated I had only used up one third of the battery and it recharges quickley. Glad I made this purchase.

What Model Battery Does This Take? I Can Find No Reference on Ryobi Website.

I purchased string trimmer P2006 last year but dead this spring. It took battery P104. Bought almost identical P2060 but it takes P105 battery which is smaller. I do not want to buy this without battery and find out it take neither one.
Asked by: Joanne
Please don't bother. the 18 V battery works with this trimmer, but this trimmer doesn't work AT ALL (on its 2nd use). Efforts to return defective product has been an effort in futility. BTW, I own several Ryobi products - Drill, Weed Eater, Blower - all of which I'm satisfied with. The trimmer, however, has been a TOTAL disappointment.

Customer Reviews

ONE+ 18 in. 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Hedge Trimmer - Battery and Charger Not Included is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 1786.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I purchase items based on others reviews. So it's only far I review the product myself I got this trimmer after reading others reviews. As soon as I got home I charged the battery. Went to dinner and came back home to see what this trimmer was all about. I have a big lot with 15-20 bushes to trim. I decided on the 18v because the batteries were cheaper and the trimmer was considerably lighter then the 40v big brother model. And of course you can use other tools with these batteries opposed to the 40v model. I wasn't expecting to get my whole yard done with one battery. I did not.. But was surprised to get half of my bushes done with ease. The trimmer lasted about 25 min of tedious trimming with ease. I was only trimming light hedges and bushes but was very happy with its performance. It was the first time I used the trimmer and I think it's worth the money. If you have other tools to use with this trimmer then I highly recommend it. The 40v model has longer blades but that extra weight and battery life is just not needed. That's my opinion hope I helped

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Had no idea the cord was such a hassle! I have had a couple of corded electric hedge trimmers to help care for my heavily landscaped 3/4 acre property. And once or twice a year, I would bring out the 100' extension cord and trim up various shrubs, hauling the cord to different locations and then doing a dance to keep from tripping over/cutting the cord as I worked. I had already purchase a Ryobi One+ string trimmer and leaf blower combo and was happy with that, so I figured I'd try this. It was amazing how not having to fight the cord frees you up to move quickly and accurately. Plus now that it is so easy to snap in a battery and get to work, I'm going out and trimming monthly, making the amount of work lighter and keeping the shrubs tidier. Plenty of power and lasts long enough for me with the larger extended battery. Cuts up to roughly 1/2" branches. The balance is just about perfect. One of my favorite yard care tools ever.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cordless Hedge Trimmer I have a hedge trimmer with cord, but between my spring and fall 'major trimming work' around the house I wanted to take care fo the long sprouts that come up, but without the hassle of runing the cord (long distances, I have 2 acres). Thus either gas powered or electric came to mind. I was very plesantly impressed with this unit and the thickness of branches and stems it easily cuts. I intended this as a spot trimmer, not for huge trimming jobs but have converted using it for most trimming and not using my corded unit. Since I have multiple tools or Ryobi 18V I specifically went with Ryobi battery/tool. Maintaining batteries seems to be the major difficulty with battery tools, so since I have an maintain 4 (four) 18V batteries of this brand it was painless. The power and duration is good (about 40 minutes), but then to another battery. The convience has been the part I love.

Works well for trimming new, smaller growth. Works okay for cutting back older growth but that's where you hit the limits of the trimmer. It's really an awesome product for weekly maintenance but for tougher branches on bushes, something heavier duty wouod be better. I love it though and love the interchangeable battery with other Ryobi products. Would I buy it again? Yes! Absolutely.

After considering that I only have a few shrubs to cut and a complete set of Ryobi batteries I opted to try this. It cuts quite well and is lighter even with a large battery. Don't know how much you can cut with a fully charged battery but will do the job without the worry of cutting cords and tripping breakers. I would recommend.

No more dragging an electric cord around and risking the chance of cutting it! If I see a bush which needs a minor quick trip, I just do it. Previously I would wait until things were overgrown and then drag the cords out. Power is fine for bushes and it is great in working with the power from my other Ryobi tools. Great buy, especially without the batteries.

This is the 3rd One+ ryobi tool i’ve purchased, along with a couple extra batteries and i am very pleased with each of them: blower, recip saw, and this 18” hedgetimmer. Battery lasted easily for the 1.5-2hrs i used the trimmer on some pretty tough lorapetalum shrubs.. branches were up to 1/2 inch

Had been wanting for years to trim a large bush across our street where our mailbox is located, but no extension cord was long enough. The trimming has begun already. As we already had a ONE+ edger, we didn't need to spring for a battery or charger here.
