A:Â I have a feeling the 120w is a mistake, maybe they meant voltage when plugged into a wall outlet. Personally I feel like this actually puts out maybe more like 35-40 watts. It has left a little something to be desired for me, doesnt get THAT hot

Just what I needed
This Ryobi soldering iron (PCL946) is great for the crafting table. I love that it has a variable heat setting. Glad it comes with a bit of solder, but It's not labeled. No clue what type or if needs flux or what temp to use. After a bit of experimenting it melted at the 550 degree mark. Luckily I also had some other solder to use. It melts at 400 and that's the lowest setting on this tool. I needed this tool to solder some jump rings, got a handful done in a short period of time. Very happy with the ease of use for this tool.
Very impressive soldering iron with adjustable temperature control
After using a 110v corded soldering iron for so many years I was wanting to find one that was less tethered. In the past I have tried using a butane one and another using AA batteries and found both ultra portable but difficult to control the temperature. First, I am invested in the Ryobi 18V One+ system and own several of the tools and batteries. In the box along with the soldering iron is an instruction manual and a sample section of solder. I snapped in a 4ah battery, which creates a very solid and stable base. The variable temperature control on this to be excellent, ranging from 400 up to 900 degrees F and the power output of 120w. There is an LED light beneath the temperature know that flashes while warming up and turns to solid when the temperature is reached. I found the soldering iron reached temp very quickly, getting to 450 degrees F in under a minute and melted the .062 inch solder quickly with the fine tip. I could see where having an adjustable temperature control comes in handy depending on the diameter of the solder. Though the iron has a fairly thin 3 foot long power cord it is very flexible and didn't get in the way. The built-in coiled holder is great for keeping the iron tip safely protected to prevent burns and off the work surface. Upon turning the iron off the LED will continue to pulse letting you know the iron is still hot and will stop when the cooled down. Overall, this is a very impressive soldering iron with the adjustable temp and look forward using for a myriad of projects. It comes with a 3-year manufacture's warranty.
This is a fantastic soldering iron made by Ryobi. I love the temperature control and how securely the stand holds the soldering iron. The tip performs well. I received using a larger capacity battery such as 4 AH if you are going to be soldering for awhile as this is a 120w soldering iron. One thing that could use improvement is the flexibility of the wire connecting the iron to the base. It is pretty stiff however I was easily able to work around it.
I'll be honest here, I use a soldering iron like 2 or 3 times a year, for a really quick repair job. I don't need anything more than a basic tool, and this one works great. It's self contained. I don't need to hunt around for parts. It's battery operated so I don't need to find a spot to plug it in, and it has a holder for the hot iron so I don't need to rest it on a granite tile until it cools. I can control the temp (to an extent) and change the tips. It heats up quickly - in a bout a minute in my experience, and cools down quickly as well. It's fairly small and doesn't take up a lot of space on the shelf.
The RYOBI ONE+ 18V Cordless 120-Watt Soldering Iron Topper (Tool Only) is precisely what I need for portable convenience. Much of the work I do must be done on-site so getting a corded soldering iron where it's needed can be a challenge. I usually end up using a butane soldering iron but they can be undependable and the gas makes me a little nervous in confined spaces. The Ryobi eliminates the problems and does a great job. I appreciate that I can adjust the temperature to match the job; a feature typically found on better quality soldering irons. I already have several other Ryobi cordless tools so I like that I can save a few dollars by getting the "tool only" version and avoid having yet another charger that will get stored away never to be used. I have no complaints about this tool, it does what it is designed to do and does it well. The only thing I would change is I wish it included a battery. Not getting an unneeded charger is great but you can never have too many batteries.
This portable RYOBI battery-powered soldering item came in handy when I had to fix an electric wire on my car engine. It uses the standard RYOBI ONE+ battery system and can easily heat up with the smallest 2.0 Ah battery. However, if you need to have it last longer, put in the 6.0 Ah battery. A dial lets you choose the amount of heat you need and a switch shuts off the heat entirely. A blinking red light comes on when heating AND stays on solid until the iron cools down.
I have had many a solder iron. Most you set down to line up the next spot to solder and the wand burns the worktable or rolls off the worktable to try to burn you. This one has a place to put the wand so that it does neither of those things. It has a nice point to be able to make solder welds on a small object. On top of all that it is one plus battery powered, no cords.
