Answers

Denny, thank you for your interest in the RYOBI ONE+ 12 in. 18-Volt Brushless Lithium-Ion Electric Cordless Battery Chainsaw. It would be impossible to state how long the chain remains sharp as many factors affect the dulling of the blade. These factors include the type of wood you are cutting and numbers of times you use the saw. Thank you for asking, If you have further questions and would like to speak with a RYOBI Customer Experience Professional, please call, 1-800-525-2579 M-F from 9am-6pm EST. Hope this helps! - Vini

Gianni, I bought this same saw 6/15/2019. I had the same exact problem. Let me start by saying that I have 3 Stihl gas saws, and I bought this for camping because of the noise of a gas saw. It is normal for a chain to stretch as all saws do that. However this saw was set up with too short of an adjustment range. I took my saw to a repair ctr. at Home Depot. Needless to say the tech. did not find a problem with the saw. He tried to put a Power Care chain on, but the guide teeth were too wide. The bar quickly began smoking from friction and he suggested to let it "wear in". I said "No thanks" and took it home. Called customer service and they sent me a new chain and it did the same thing. Since then I took the bar off and redrilled the mount for the tensioner to move it back 5/16" and now it works just fine. By the way, you can buy new chains from Stihl for $16 and they are higher quality. I would take the saw with you to make sure you get the correct size.

Don, thank you for your interest in the RYOBI ONE+ 12 in. 18-Volt Brushless Lithium-Ion Electric Cordless Battery Chainsaw. While this would cut through 4x4 or a 6x6 It is not a wood working tool which should be used for building things. This item (although packaged for delivery like nothing I have ever seen before) was ready to go out of the box. Add chain oil to reservoir and start cutting. And as a matter of fact it arrived on the day part of a large tree fell on our yard. Took it out the next day and put it to the test. Don’t know how it will hold up, but couldn’t be happier with it so far. Used a 4 maH battery on and off over two hours and it showed no signs of flagging. We have many Ryobi One + tools and think they are the best for average Harriet Homeowners!

Ease of use and 18v batteries combine
This chainsaw is perfect for those that don’t want to deal with a traditional gas chainsaw and are already in the 18V system. It is very capable, although it does have a slower chain speed as you would expect with an 18v vs 40v or gas. I use this saw only with the 9ah, 6ah, and 3ah HP batteries so your experience may vary - battery selection makes a big difference with high draw tools like this. I will let pictures of accomplished jobs with this tool do the rest of the talking.

Major design flaw
I've had this saw about 4 months. Easy to use but found I had to keep replacing the chain (I'm on my 4th one). Did some checking on online forums and found this to be a known design flaw with this model. The chain stretches with use but the tool-less tightening system has a "stop" on it which eventually prevents further tightening. At $30 a pop for a new chain, this is a major problem. Wish I had gotten the 40v model instead which has a more traditional chain tightening system. It's too bad because otherwise it is a handy little saw.

I've been in the tree business for over 50 years, yah, I'm an old guy. We own a small forest tree farm in Washington state. I originally purchased this saw fow my wife to use at our tree farm to cut limbs off of downed trees we have while thinning. I got her a Stihl 180 thinking it would be light enough for her to use for the above purpose, but it was to hard for her to start, it was too loud, it smoked, and I'm sure the sun must have been in her eyes as well. Anyway, as a last resort I purchased this little Ryobi after reading mostly positive reviews. We've owned it for about three weeks now and have yet to take it out to the tree farm to give it it's intended tryout. We've used the heck out of it at the house for this and that as well as to clean up four trees that came down in the middle of the night that cut power and blocked the street. I've got to say, it's a friggin great little saw. We cut up to 8" diameter limbs with little effort. Mind you it's a cordless, not a Stihl MS310 or 250. But it works great and the 4ah batteries lasted way longer than we had expected them to. Not having a chain brake is no big deal so long as you are used to handing a chainsaw. The only negative i have about the saw is we did hang it on a screw on the wall, as it is intended to, but found the bar oil leaks out when its hung. It dosen't do it when its sitting, only when its hung. It would be handy to be able to hang it. This saw is a home run for light work, I'd given it more stars, but five is the most you can do. Buy one, you won't regret it, so long as you understand its limits. I've attached a picture of the tree cleanup so you can see what we were dealing with.

Excellent Chainsaw
I bought this Ryobi 12 inch Chainsaw for my wife being that she usually can not start the gas chainsaw. She really loves this saw. The wood cut in the pictures using a 9.0 Ah battery. It still had 1 bar left on the battery and was still cutting well. This is a very user friendly Ryobi product. Highly recommend this chainsaw!!

Works very well for a battery powered chainsaw, have cut many trees as big or bigger than the bar and as long as you don't force it the batteries last long enough to get the job done.

Excellent addition to Ryobi One+ Family - Does more than expected!
After burning through two cheap corded chainsaws, I did a lot of research for one to match my needs: established trees throughout the yard, periodic firewood collection, and to help with weather emergencies in the neighborhood. I opened the box, read the manual, charged the battery, added the chain/bar oil, and got to work. Had NO problem with dozens of 8"-12" cuts (and a lot more smaller cuts) thinning the trees in my yard and helping the neighbor remove a dead tree (12" diameter trunk). I was able to cut the larger branches and tree trunk into pieces for firewood using the battery that came with it and one smaller one that I already had. I am very happy with this purchase. I should have just paid for this saw in the first place. Keep it oiled and clean it periodically and you will be satisfied!

I've owned this Chainsaw for less than 24hrs, but it has already exceeded my expectations in every way. I processed a huge tree that was over 16" in diameter in some parts in just about 2hrs. With smaller limbs it was like a hot knife through butter or maybe... It was like a powerful chainsaw ripping through wood. Could a larger gas chainsaw do they job more quickly? Probably, but being able to use the same batteries I use for my blower, string trimmer, hedge trimmer, etc. to process a massive tree makes the bit of extra time worth it. For the kind of job I tackled which I would argue is at the very top of this tools limit you'll want to pair this sucker with a few 9 amp hour batteries for the best results. They really take this chainsaw to the next level. You will not be disappointed.
