Great But keep extra chains
I bought this to get rid of seven ash trees on my sidewalk. It worked great removing all the branches but anything thick like the base of the tree it would slow down if the chain was used. My last two tree stumps I was trying to cut down and I think on my third chain it kept bogging down like it was pinched. So I put on a new chain and it buzzed right through those stumps like a hot knife in butter. This is a pretty good chainsaw but if ya push it too hard with a semi dull chain it will bog down and then stop, but don't fret, the battery usually isn't dead, just hot, so I kept 2 batteries with me at all times, not the little ones either, so when it stopped I would just swap batts and keep going this way it will use all the batt power and not overheat badly. I also love the fact you do not need any tools to adjust the chain or replace it, just turn the screw and knob and DONE. Also you need to remember to always clean the oil port for the chain due to it does build up with sawdust and can plug up, a Can of WD40 is good to clear that out after each use. Using two of my batteries the saw did last quite a bit while cutting. If you need to cut alot of big thick stuff then order at least another chain before starting. This Ryobi saw has just been added to my collection of Ryobi tools, no more gas or electric tools, this makes it soo much easier. I have a big pile of logs in my backyard right now from all the trees and they were all cut by my Ryobi.

Need to buy oil and doesn't come with scabbard
Works fine. Good little saw. I've cut 12 inch trees with it. I was a little disappointed it didn't come with a cover (scabbard). Some reviews say it comes with bar and chain oil, but it doesn't. It says on the box that you need to buy oil.

This item (although packaged for delivery like nothing I have ever seen before) was ready to go out of the box. Add chain oil to reservoir and start cutting. And as a matter of fact it arrived on the day part of a large tree fell on our yard. Took it out the next day and put it to the test. Don’t know how it will hold up, but couldn’t be happier with it so far. Used a 4 maH battery on and off over two hours and it showed no signs of flagging. We have many Ryobi One + tools and think they are the best for average Harriet Homeowners!

Ease of use and 18v batteries combine
This chainsaw is perfect for those that don’t want to deal with a traditional gas chainsaw and are already in the 18V system. It is very capable, although it does have a slower chain speed as you would expect with an 18v vs 40v or gas. I use this saw only with the 9ah, 6ah, and 3ah HP batteries so your experience may vary - battery selection makes a big difference with high draw tools like this. I will let pictures of accomplished jobs with this tool do the rest of the talking.

        Major design flaw
I've had this saw about 4 months. Easy to use but found I had to keep replacing the chain (I'm on my 4th one). Did some checking on online forums and found this to be a known design flaw with this model. The chain stretches with use but the tool-less tightening system has a "stop" on it which eventually prevents further tightening. At $30 a pop for a new chain, this is a major problem. Wish I had gotten the 40v model instead which has a more traditional chain tightening system. It's too bad because otherwise it is a handy little saw.

I've been in the tree business for over 50 years, yah, I'm an old guy. We own a small forest tree farm in Washington state. I originally purchased this saw fow my wife to use at our tree farm to cut limbs off of downed trees we have while thinning. I got her a Stihl 180 thinking it would be light enough for her to use for the above purpose, but it was to hard for her to start, it was too loud, it smoked, and I'm sure the sun must have been in her eyes as well. Anyway, as a last resort I purchased this little Ryobi after reading mostly positive reviews. We've owned it for about three weeks now and have yet to take it out to the tree farm to give it it's intended tryout. We've used the heck out of it at the house for this and that as well as to clean up four trees that came down in the middle of the night that cut power and blocked the street. I've got to say, it's a friggin great little saw. We cut up to 8" diameter limbs with little effort. Mind you it's a cordless, not a Stihl MS310 or 250. But it works great and the 4ah batteries lasted way longer than we had expected them to. Not having a chain brake is no big deal so long as you are used to handing a chainsaw. The only negative i have about the saw is we did hang it on a screw on the wall, as it is intended to, but found the bar oil leaks out when its hung. It dosen't do it when its sitting, only when its hung. It would be handy to be able to hang it. This saw is a home run for light work, I'd given it more stars, but five is the most you can do. Buy one, you won't regret it, so long as you understand its limits. I've attached a picture of the tree cleanup so you can see what we were dealing with.

          Excellent Chainsaw
I bought this Ryobi 12 inch Chainsaw for my wife being that she usually can not start the gas chainsaw. She really loves this saw. The wood cut in the pictures using a 9.0 Ah battery. It still had 1 bar left on the battery and was still cutting well. This is a very user friendly Ryobi product. Highly recommend this chainsaw!!

Works very well for a battery powered chainsaw, have cut many trees as big or bigger than the bar and as long as you don't force it the batteries last long enough to get the job done.
