Great Hammer Drill with Lots of Features
This Ryobi cordless hammer drill has lots of features. I appreciate that the light is in the base. In many other cordless drills the light is blocked by the chuck. I tested this hammer drill with a 1/2 inch masonry bit on a brick. It performed well compared to my old electric hammer drill. I did notice that when I used a 1.5 Ah battery when hammer drilling at high speed that the power would cut out after drilling into the brick 3/4 inch. This was resolved by using a 4Ah battery instead, so I recommend using a 4 Ah battery for this application. Overall a nice hammer drill with lots of features.

It is a powerful drill.
This drill works for everything I would use a corded drill for. My first trial was attaching a mounting strip to concrete. I drilled a 1/4" holes in the wood strip in normal drill mode. I then drilled holes in the concrete using the hammer drill mode, and a masonry bit. I used the hammer drill mode and an impact screwdriver bit to drive the concrete screws. It preformed these tasks as well as a corded hammer drill. I didn't use the screwdriver mode in this project.

We love this!!
Our place is concrete block. Therefore it is not easy to hang things. My husband has been wanting this drill for a long long time. The pictures, unfortunately are not what I had planned. Yesterday when he was using it to put up the plant hanger as I requested we were so involved in getting it the way we wanted it that I forgot to take pictures while he was using it. Hopefully the ones below will show you what a great job it did. This is another Ryobi and Ryobi is what my husband absolutely loves. He prefers them over any other tools. And believe me, this man has tools!

Great addition to the tool box
Having the Ryobi cordless drill I'm adding this hammer drill to perform those tough concrete jobs requiring this type of drill. It has two selectable powers depending on the job at hand along with a 22 position clutch. The tool is balanced with a light weight depending on the size battery you choose. The drill is reversible and has a built in light.

3 in 1 tool
Any home DIY person should have one of these tools in their arsenal. This hammer drill is nice because you’re actually getting 3 tools in 1. Of course it’s a hammer drill which is especially useful when you need to drill in concrete. Set the dial to the hammer icon and the drillbit will pulse which aids in expelling the concrete dust while drilling. You can also set the dial to the drill icon which will allow you to drill at high speeds through steel or lower speeds such as wood. Lastly you’re able to use this as a screw and bolt driver with it’s 22 position clutch. The clutch allows you to adjust how much torque to apply to the so you don’t sink it into far. The description online says it’s a 24 position clutch, but positions 23 and 24 are actually used by the drill and hammer icons. I like that the LED light is in the base of the handle shining up which in my opinion gives you more light than other drills which have the light right below the drill bit. You can feel how the front of this hammer drill is pretty heavy, so I would assume that the gearing inside is adequate for the job. It’s not too heavy though it actually is a good weight which helps you to control the drill bit better. I tried it out so far on a cinder block and a concrete slab, and this drill easily put holes into the concrete. Keep in mind you have to use special Masonary bits with this type of drill. I don’t drill in concrete very often, but seeing that this is also a drill and a driver I would highly recommend this as again you’re getting 3 tools in 1. And of course it’s compatible with all the Ryobi 18 volt batteries so this is a welcome addition to my growing collection of Ryobi tools.

A Multitude of Features
This hammer still works extremely well for long periods of time. The hammer feature makes it very easy to drill tap cons into concrete. One of the best features is that this drill had two speeds. Low speed 1 for small screws and high speed 2 for drilling quickly or driving screws. I used it to drive many screws into my new fence pickets and the job went very well. There is also a built in LED for those jobs with less ideal lighting. This drill had quite a bit of torque as well at 515. This tool is a great addition to my collection as an intermediate DIYer or any professional contractor.

Compact Drill
The RYOBI ONE+ 18 volt ordless 1/2 inch Hammer Drill is a compact tool. I like the fact that it is not heavy. It has 22 settings for clutch to drive screws or to tighten up bolts. It has a setting for drilling and for hammer drilling. The is a switch for setting two different speeds also. A slide switch changes the drills direction, forward and reverse. I have used the drill to drill holes in wood and metal as well as the hammer drill to bore holes in concrete. It is an amazing tool. It does not come with a battery.

Ryobi One PCL220 18volt ½ inch Cordless Hammer Drill Works Great Lots Of Control
Ryobi One PCL220 18volt ½ inch Cordless hammer / Drill Works Great for all those small to hard/stubborn jobs like removing deck screws or installing them, drilling hard wood, steel. Concrete or masonry. It does the job with up to 515 in/lbs of torque. This is for the tool only just use your other Ryobi 18volt batteries, The keyless chuck accepts up to ½’’ bits. You are able to adjust the torque with the 2-speed gear box and a 24-position clutch with hammer mode. Forward reverse switch with off is easy to change when you need too. The led light is bright enough to help in those dark areas. Well balanced and a nice rubber cushion grip to help hold it while working. One must be aware that with this much torque/power if your bit binds you will know it make sure you read the operators manual and use the correct safety garb there are a lot of good tips on how to safely use this tool. Also make sure you register this it has a three year warranty and like all Ryobi products they work for me Comes with a three year warranty use it. This hammer drill makes my drilling days easier
I love my new ½” Ryobi Hammer Drill and am getting used to the improvements. This drill is relatively heavy, with 515 inch-pounds of torque and a robust chuck that ratchets for secure bit retention. (Chuck slippage is non-existent with this drill, even with small diameter bits.) The drill has a variable speed trigger, with adjacent forward and reverse settings, dual-speed transmission and a dial clutch setting just behind the chuck to set the drill torque, though the scale doesn’t seem to be calibrated to any specific scale. It would be nice to be able to specify, for instance, 20 foot-pounds of torque. Just beyond the 1-24 torque scale are icons for drill (presumably without clutch limitation) and hammer engagement. The drill is actively braked following trigger release – a nice safety feature. A useful LED work light is incorporated into the battery mount housing, just below the handle grip; this light also does dual duty as a diagnostic aid by flashing x times to signal various error conditions. This tool is part of Ryobi’s One+ series that interchangeably use their 18 Volt Lithium-Ion battery packs. No battery is included with this particular SKU, but the Ryobi batteries I have on hand have exceeded expectations regarding features, charge duration, and battery life. This tool has a 3-year warranty. In use, I found the weight more comforting than problematic, except when working directly overhead, which quickly tired my arm. Speed (max 1750 RPM) was adequate for most tasks, but about half the speed of my corded drill. The higher speed is recommended for drilling through metal. I pulled out hardened masonry bits and put test holes into brick and concrete blocks with the hammer engaged and had good results. Ryobi chose to omit a removable “helper” handle on this drill and I missed having it. (Ryobi would have the user place their second hand directly on the rubberized back of the drill. I suppose that helps keep the hammer effort directed downwards rather than to one side, but is less effective at controlling the rotational torque.) Sometime next month, I’ll put this hammer drill to heavy use, creating holes for reinforcing wire when I replace a torn-up section of concrete driveway. Based on my experience so far, I expect that task to be made much easier with this tool.
