doesnt hold up
I bought this because i dont use corded tools other than a belt sander and a tale saw and i saw this and it was the first and only cordless belt sander id seen and as a remodeling contractor we use them to knock down sheens and shave off exisiting textures to mud over them but after less than 200 square feet of wall and light use just putting the sander on the wall and letting it do the work no leaning into it nothing i went to put in a fresh battery and it didnt respond so i tried again and it sputtered a bit but then nothing. After 20 minutes of use its dead. I know ryobi tools are diyer grade junk but this is pathetic. Avoid it at all costs

    Dust port hack
I own most of the Ryobi one+ tools. They all work great and being cordless makes them even greater. Having said that the recent purchase of the one+ sander (3in x 18in) left me scratching my head. I never use the supplied dusk bags that come with the tools and prefer using my vac. The way that they have positioned the duct port does not leave room to attach a hose. And being a left-hander using the bag gets in the way of sanding. The fix was easy enough, but I wish Ryobi would the design to make it adaptable for a vac hose. To fix it I purchased a 1in 45-degree elbow. Of course, that was too small for the dust port and too large for the vac hose. Out comes the heat gun. Heated up the elbow enough to slip in on the dust port and waited for it to cool. Then heated up the other end and compressed it to fit the vac hose. Now I can hook up the vac and it keeps it out of the way of my “left” hand trigger use. So there it is, my fix to what I consider a design flaw, and I recommend it for anyone who want to attach a vac hose.

      Broke on first use
The tracking adjustment screw stripped out on first use. Unfortunately I bought this a year ago with cash. Without a receipt HD customer service tells me I am out of luck.

            Nimble and Light
Compared to an old belt sander I have used for years, this Ryobi model is more nimble and lighter in weight. Adjusting the tracking also easier: set it once and it stays in place. Using it outdoors way more convenient without needing to plug in.

I have had good luck with this sander. It has done a ton of work and done it well. I have had problems with the orbital sander they offer but the belt sander was a home run.

Decent tool performance for the value. I expect to burn it up eventually as it it is ryobi but it works great so far.

This product is a piece of junk... Why does HD even bother to carry it? (even your workers there tell me it's a piece of junk when I went to return it....) Very attractive pricing on the website, but it turns out to be overpriced even if priced at $0.00 I believe I have made my point loudly & clearly.

Works OK. Not my favorite tool in the Ryobi line though. Pretty slow belt speed and not a ton of power either.

                    Not usable
I got tired of dragging my cord all over the place for a little sander and picked up this. An $80 battery and charger later $210 total cost now. So What I got for an overpriced sander they gives me a 7 minute working time.... And the battery is so hot it won’t recharge. It’s junk, will be returning it. Was going to upgrade to the 4ah battery but at the end of the day, just buy a corded sander. Great idea, not usable.

Love Ryobi. Don't love this sander.
I have virtually every Ryobi cordless tool and I use most of them frequently. Not this one! The belt speed is too slow and it is very difficult to keep the belt from drifting. Not a good transition to cordless. Works if it absolutely has to be cordless but I strongly recommend you stay with corded on this one.

It chews through battery faster than it can sand.
I was really hoping this tool would work out. I had about 75ish linear feet of 2x6 to sand and it only got through about 1/3 of it with 2.5 battery packs. I feel this tool needs more than the 18V system can provide. It they went to the 40V with this, I might give it another go. As with the other Ryobi tools I have, the feel of it was good. It was light enough to be used with one hand but seemed sturdy enough. I wish this one worked out. I was disappointed it didn't.

My only issue with this is that the battery lasts about 15 min. And this is with the ryobi one + 18V lithium-ion 4.0 AH. Should’ve bought a corded one that’s all in saying.

Works well, but battery life is short so you need lots of charged batteries on hand if doing a big job.

works well, the 80 grit belt was not quite right for my job. Definitely would recommend. Get a variety of belts when you get the tool so that you don't have another trip for additional/different belts.

The sanding itself is okay. With 4Amp battery, it runs but I cannot finish 8ft 4x4 log with one battery pack. If you need bigger job, it may be better to consider corded one. One defective design is the handle angle adjustment. The front grip ha for can change the angle, but the latch is poorly designed and it moves quickly. I think they need to change this design.

The lever that locks the sanding belt in place is very cheap and flimsy made,so you have to be careful when using it, having a know that allows you to adjust the tension on the belt is nice, have to use the bigger 4 batteries it has a high power consumption did a Wishing well project an had to use 3 big batteries to finish sanding just the outside areas of it, but overall I would say it's a good buy especially with being portable, strong power for being 18v, I would recommend.
