Q:Why do these 18 volt batteries take so long to charge? My 80 volt chain saw battery takes less than 20 minutes!

A:Â Hello, Michele - Thank you for your question. The size of the battery and the level of discharge will factor into how long the battery takes to charge. This is not a fast charger and the time to charge these batteries may vary in comparison to an 80v charger. I hope this helps! A:Â Hi Michele, the manufacturer recommended charge rate for Li-Ion cells is typically no more than 1C, or at least one hour for a full charge no matter the pack voltage or capacity. Charging faster may reduce the total number of cycles.

If you have a lot of Ryobi products, this is a must-have
Fantastic charger! I use it with all my batteries, the plus’s HP batteries and regular lithium batteries. I have a lot of the chargers that come with tools, but they are all really small and seem like they take forever to charge the batteries.
This charger on the other hand charges them extremely fast and at the same time. I love being able to charge both of the batteries for my lawnmower at the same time, so I can have two in the mower and two charging.
It also mounted to the wall really easy, and feels very solid when you’re plugging the batteries in. If you have a lot of Ryobi products, this is a must have.
This is a good charger to have when you are cycling 2 or 3 batteries at a time and really, you only need to have maybe 2 or 3 batteries tops. Less batteries means less waste, more workshop space and better for the environment. This charger will fully charge 2 batteries while you are using the third (depending on which tool you are using of course). I do not use the single battery charger anymore but keep it on the truck for our weekend excursions in case I need to charge a battery for a portable fan, vacuum or inflator. The dual charger mounts on the wall easily and does not protrude too far like other brands. I am pretty impressed with Ryobi.
I have been waiting for Ryobi to come out with an 18V One+ battery charger that will charge more than one battery at a time. I almost bought their 6-port charger but discovered that it only charged sequentially one battery at a time and then moved on to the others, one at a time, after finishing the charge of each battery. This charger charges each of the two batteries at the same time and it will handle different amp-hour rated batteries. I charged a 6 AH battery and a 2 AH battery at the same time and it did a wonderful job. Previously I had to use two separate chargers and had to deal with trying to get the AC adapters plugged into a crowded power strip. This charger doesn't use the external adapter plug; it uses a regular AC plug and all of the AC to DC conversion happens inside the base unit. This is like the original charger supplied with 18V One+ combos in the good old days. For me this is the perfect charger. It does everything that I need and I do recommend it for those who own and use several Ryobi 18V One+ tools.
Nice to charge 2 batteries at the same time with just one wire.
I already have a 6 port charger, but that is charging consecutively rather than simultaneously, so when I'm really burning through batteries with battery heavy tools (e.g. Ryobi shop vac), it is nice to be able to quickly charge them back up 2 at a time.
The box claims it can charge a 2ah battery in 30 minutes. In my testing, where I completely drained a 2ah battery and a 4ah battery using my Ryobi shop vacuum, the 2ah battery was not charged after 30 minutes. Maybe if I only had one battery on the charger, it would have been fully charged, but I have not tested that theory yet.
Either way, the charger is still plenty fast in my mind, but since the charge time did not match what is claimed on the box, I did dock 1 star from my rating. Overall, I'll take any opportunity to conserve power outlets, and this dual charger allows me to take what would require 2 wires and turn it into just 1, and (and it doesn't have any power bricks that take up multiple spaces on a power strip either).
Any product that has an advantage over another one has my vote. This single charger has two ports to charge two batteries simultaneously. As I have many Ryobi batteries and several chargers, it is just easier to bring one charger and do both batteries at the same time. This model charges faster than the previous model, which is also a plus. As the Ryobi tool collection grows, so needs the charging conveniences. The tool that needs fast charging batteries is my garden cultivator. It requires more time than a larger rototiller and the batteries do not last through the whole job.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought my Ryobi dual port charger today! It has charged all my 18+ batteries, even my older ones and it charged them quick! Only issue I have is that I should have gotten one with more ports. But this is a fantastic product.
