trimmer line gets wrapped around the motor housing
Do not buy this trimmer. The trimmer line constantly gets wrapped around the motor housing. When it cuts, it cuts and works great. Good for basic grass trimming. But as soon as it hits a tougher weed stem the line gets wrapped around the head. But every 2 minutes, the line wraps around the motor housing and it not always easy to untangle and unwrap. Can't get the job done if a person has to stop every 2 minutes to unwrap the line from around the housing unit.

Auto-feed string trimmers are designed to release about a ¼ in. of the line every time the trimmer's trigger is released. And if a user squeezes and releases the trigger continuously, then more and more line will advance, which can lead to wasted line or tangles. 50 minutes of mowing time
Delighted: 50min mow time (P20120 4.0Ah bat) Used 11” cut-off setting, low speed, 0.080” string. Minimized starts and stop, running ~10m at a time. Needed to mow into a cabin with no electricity. 1st priority = clear driveway and path from van (11min). Next clear working space (10min) for 18” bare soil fumigation seal(NOT done with string mower, but shows in the pictures). It kept going for another 29min on stopwatch for all steps and wider areas around the cabin that show in the pictures.

poorly designed product doesn't work
You'll spend more time pulling on the jammed line then you will using it to trim grass. Dude it's poor design the line does not advance and easily jams. They make "upgraded" alternative trimmer heads. The alternative lasted once. Due to the cheap plastic the line embedded in its holder and cannot be removed for replacement. Ryobi makes decent hand tools but they're outdoor lawn products division needs a management overhaul. Disappointing.

MAJOR DESIGN FLAW
This model has multiple pluses and one MAJOR design flaw.
Flaw: The line constantly jams. There is a small gap between the yellow housing and the spinning rotator. The line constantly finds its way into that gap and then jams the rotator. The rotator stops, and all you hear is an electrical humming sound. No go. It takes several minutes to loosen the jam, rethread the line, and start using the tool again. The tool might work for 20-30 seconds, and then it jams again. There is no way to remove parts to get at the jam. Instead, tug at the line with pliers and hope it does not break where you cannot see it.
A few other Ryobi string trimmers have this same design, but most do not -- they do not have the open gap. I returned the trimmer within a few days of first using it. Hard to believe someone engineered this product in this way. Field testing? Doesn't seem likely. This model reminds me of tools imported from Asia in the 1960s -- embarrassing cheap design. Except that the purchase price of this brushless model is not cheap...
Too bad, because there are...
Pluses:
- Well balanced and reasonably light.
- It discharges the battery very little (well, of course, I had a hard time using it for very long).
- Quieter than many other models.
- Very convenient not to have the hassle of managing extension cords or fiddling with small, fussy gasoline engines, which are highly subject to ethanol problems.
- Convenient two speed control.
- Nice length.
I cannot speak to the advantages of the brushless motor because this unit never ran long enough for me to witness any advantages.
My other Ryobi ONE+ HP tools are top notch - this one is a loser.

Not as Powerful as the Old Battery/110v Combo that Died - and Inconsistent Performance
I bought this so I could use my many Ryobi 18v batteries. The previous model was dual power, and lasted over 3 years. Problems with this new one started before I could even assemble it. I noticed that the point where the shaft joints were folding had cut into the wires enough to bare copper on two of them but not cut the wires. Minor fix with electrical tape and move on.
During the next few weeks I noticed that the unit starts up slowly, and doesn't run at the RPM range that I was used to (set on high speed). On several occasions it didn't want to run at all but after several tries, and on one occasion reseating the battery it has continued to run. This last week while using it to trim my 3/4 acre grass (80% weeds) yard the spool came flying off. Inspection showed that it had just come unscrewed, but it took a little research to find that the top of the shaft inside the motor has a square shape that you can put a small wrench on to tighten things up. This also means I can take it off to clean out the weeds/string etc that has wrapped around the shaft and can slow it down even more.
My 6AH battery will usually get me 3/4s of the way around the yard and my 4AH battery will let me finish, so about 40-50 minutes run time with the two.

Waste of money
This was my second Ryobi trimmer. First overheats and stops working until cooled off. Unfortunately this one completely died. I have a dozen Ryobi 18v tools Im very happy with. After two disappointing edgers i’m going to give Toro a chance.

ugh
Bought the weed blade attachments and went to work. After 15 minutes the sensitive clutch would cut out the motor and it wouldnt keep running. Turns out grass had gotten wrapped around the drive shaft way up in the plastic cases since the gap is too wide. Ive spent an hout so far trying to dig it out to get running again. Waste of time

Terrible battery
I really can’t see how some customers review this product as good. The device has a good strong motor and a switch for high and low speed. When the weedeater works, it works very well but the battery life is terrible. I have a corner lot and I usually outline my yard before I cut. The battery dies before I finish 2/3 of the yard. Have to stop and recharge the battery four times to finish the yard. Average 10 - 12 minutes of run time each charge. If you have a very small yard, I would recommend. If you have a medium to large yard, stick to a gas trimmer or higher voltage better maker device. Do not recommend this model!!!!!
