Not recommended at all

I am unfortunately on my way back to Home Depot to return my second purchase of this unit. Both times in one day with two separate units it has mechanically failed. First time it became binded up. Second time it seems like it has jumped timing and both bladed are moving together. Will not purchase again. See the small bushes I was cutting

The item arrived well packaged and undamaged. This is just the tool. I already have a battery. Love the color. Good size and weight. Substantial 22 inch cutting blade. Not too heavy even with the big battery attached. Nice features. Ergonomic handle with Safety trigger (hold the trigger down and then switch on the power.) Brushless motor with anti-jam technology. Dual action blades, which cut both ways, are sharp, smooth, and reduce vibration. The Hedgesweep debris remover attachment seems to work OK. It helps to keep the cut branches away from the blades which reduces jams. The anti-jam action will automatically reverse the blades a little bit if the tool senses a jam. This is pretty cool and keeps your fingers away from the blades. The blades can handle up to a 3/4 inch branch which is very substantial. Smooth power from the 18V One + battery. This hedge trimmer is a rock star in the garden.

What I love about this Ryobi 18V hedge trimmer, is it’s so very light. I’ve had other higher voltage trimmers, but they were all way too heavy to use, but this one is so easy to handle and maneuver that you don’t get arm fatigue, even while reaching with a full extension. I recently tried it out on our holly hedges that needed some tidying up before spring. It was so effortless to wave it across the top and sides, clipping off any wayward branches, leaving a smooth surface across the hedge. Working with this trimmer has just made trimming my hedges a whole lot easier.

I needed an upgrade on my hedge trimmer from my old one as I wanted one that was a bit longer and...

I needed an upgrade on my hedge trimmer from my old one as I wanted one that was a bit longer and able to cut thicker branches. This hedge trimmer did all of that for me. The blades are strong and sturdy and were able to cut through branches up to 1/4" thick on my hedges with ease. Nothing got stuck or jammed, just a smooth cut all the way around. This Ryobi hedge trimmer is also sleeker and less bulky than my previous one which is also plus. Another big advantage for me is that I have other 18V one+ tools and this uses the same battery. I do not have to have multiple different batteries! My only dislike is the hedge sweep that attaches to the top of the trimmer. It works well to sweep away the cut branches but it did want to slide down when I held it vertically pointed downward. It would be great if it did lock in place.

A real time saver! The Ryobi One+ Hedge Trimmer is so much easier to use than my electric hedge trimmer. Most importantly there is no electric cord to string across the lawn, roll up afterward, and constantly worry about slicing through which has cost me more cables than I can remember. I really appreciate the anti-jam technology that reverses the blade before shutting down, generally clearing the jam automatically, another time saver. The debris deflector sweeps the debris ahead of the cut, leaving the hedge cleaner behind it, saving me cleanup time later, yet slides off easily when I don’t want it. It is a good size and weight, well balanced, and easy to use. The lockout button prevents accidental start-up when picking up the trimmer and it gives a great, even cut. The blade guard help protect the blade and slides on and off easily. Cannot wait for summer growth when I can really put it to use.

I really like battery operated yard and power tools. Batteries have come a long way with Lithium technology. The hedge sweep function is a very clever design that allows you to direct your clipping where you want them to fall and it is removable. The brushless motor is quiet and more reliable. This is a tool ONLY item so if you have a 18v battery and charger your good to go. The end of the trimmer blade is tapered so you can get a more precise cut plus the blades are razor sharp and can be sharpened when they get dull. I tried the hedge trimmer and it cuts threw hedges like butter and it can cut up to 3/4 of a inch branch but that's pushing it to it's limits. The handle grip is rubber mounted so it's easier on your hands for long term use.
