Faster, stronger, smaller, and can use my existing batteries!
Had to retire a Ryobi drill that was probably over 12 years old. Boy have they come far since then. Heard good things about brushless, and the two drill plus batteries plus bag was a no brainer. All my power tools are Ryobi one plus, so I already have multiple batteries and a six bank charger to go with my other cordless collection. Never had an issue with ryobi tools, they're long lasting, and less expensive than other name brands. I like the lighter weight battery pack even though It won't last as long as the full size beasts. These will get a ton of use and hopefully will last as long as the one I had to retire.

The BEST thing about these Ryobi tools is the ability to swap out batteries! I was using both the drill and the impact driver and luckily, I have other Ryobi tools and batteries, so when one ran down, I just swapped out the battery from them, and right back to work (The batteries are long lasting, but on extended projects it is great to have backups, so you are not sitting around waiting for them to charge, even though they also charge quickly as well). They both are lightweight, powerful, and easy to grip and hold. I work on wooden posts a lot around our home, and I prefer to use screws instead of nails as they hold things together tighter and easier to take apart if needed. Previously I only had a corded and cordless drill, and neither could drill the screws all the way in, so I would have to first drill out the holes and then go back and drill the screws in, and even then, it was a struggle. Having never used an impact driver I was not sure what to expect and what was the difference between the two. (See video) But now I am so happy that I no longer have to do twice the work, as the impact driver powers the screws right into the thick fenceposts easily, without having to pre-drill the holes. (Ooh Ooh More Power!) The bits are easy to swap out with one hand and a light to see what I am working on as I am drilling. The drill is great for more precise and delicate jobs, with the 2-speed gearbox and the 24-bit clutch to speed up or slow down the drilling process. Especially good for smaller screws, you do not want to over tighten them, so they imbed into the wood. It is super easy to change out the bits, no using a torque wrench to do so, like my other older drills. It also has a light that illuminates your work area and stays on for a few seconds after you release the trigger. I am extremely happy and so glad that I got these two great power tools from Ryobyi!

Professional grade for an affordable price. This is my first Ryobi drill and impact driver. I have been using a Japanese made professional grade for the last 12 years and can confidently say that the Ryobi compares favorably in every way. First, I have never owned a brushless power tool. I really appreciate the immediate responsiveness you get from this feature plus the extra power and torque helps when you need it. The compact profile of both the drill and driver not only makes it lighter but the decrease in size makes them more compatible with projects that have access issues. You can feel the build quality and can tell that time and research went into the design of the Ryobi One+ HP line. I really think for the price you get a lot for your money. If you are a weekend DIY warrior like me I believe you will be happy with these.

This is an amazing set. I got the drill, impact driver, 2 batteries, a charger, and a bag all in this kit (and the batteries work in their other tools as well). This kit will be replacing an old but reliable hammer drill that I have used for around 15 years. I won't mention the brand, but the battery still takes a full charge after 15 years; so that is what I will compare these against in my future endeavors. While I used to use one tool for everything, I will now use two, and gladly. The impact driver is super powerful, but also has a nice trigger so that you can really control the speed. Without pre drilling, I drove a 3 inch screw right into some wood, but under estimated the power of the impact and almost stripped the bit and screw. You must be gentle with the trigger if you are used to using a drill for everything in your past. As for the drill, it is very powerful as well. I use some expensive drill bits that make it easy, but I like how compact and light the drill is while still being plenty powerful. They both have lights that shine on the work surface and the drill has one extra connection point to the battery (I don't really know why, but I assume for power reasons). Overall I am very impressed with the power and compactness of these tools. My old drill has a very large profile and is fatiguing to use, so I am very excited to use these. My one con for this kit though.... The bag is quite flimsy and doesn't have any dividers so everything is just banging around in the bag. The good news is the bag has nothing to do with the performance of these tools.

I have used Ryobi products for many years and have not experienced disappointed. This Ryobi One Plus HP 18 Volt Drill and Driver impact kit is 18V brushless and cordless with 2.0 AH Batteries (2), a charger, and a bag. Drill bits are not included. There are 3 Operator's Manuals, one for each unit. There are two 18 Volt Lithium-ion battery packs and they both work with the one Battery Charger. This product is easily used and not heavy when using it. The speed is up to 25% faster driving and the power is up to 50% torque.

I really like the Ryobi 18v lithium cordless compact drill and impact drive kit. Great starter set of tools. The best of both worlds. The 18v drill is compact and with a 18v lithium battery should run start to finish with your project. The lightweight compact size will get into the tight spots. The impact driver shares its compact size and lightweight. And once again the 18v lithium battery runs strong and long. The charger can charge the two lithium batteries in under a hour. And the batteries have a built in battery charge meter. Which is nice knowing how much charge is left. Also included is a nylon bag to keep it all together. The light on the tools is helpful for seeing where your drilling. Ryobi warranty's these tools for 3 yrs. And one last thing the 18v lithium batteries will power a whole lot of Ryobi tools. So many tools to choose from. Overall if your looking for quality affordable tools one more option out there.

I now have both the Ryobi HP Drill/Driver and Impact Driver (PBLDD01/PBLID01) as well as the prior generation Drill/Driver and Impact Driver (P252/P239), so I figured I'd compare the two for this review. Overall: Both sets of tools work great and feature brushless motors. If you had an old brushed motor kit, then it might be worth the upgrade for the better efficiency/longevity of the brushless motor. If you already have the P252/239 combo and don't need new batteries and/or a second drill/impact driver, then I'm not entirely sure you need to upgrade. The chucks on the tools have seen the largest improvement in my opinion. If you love the magnetic screw holder built into the P252/P239, you will be sad to see the new HP series does not include this or the bit holder as features. Detailed Review: First, when you buy the Ryobi brand, you generally know what you're getting; it's a great brand for DIYers and hobbyists, but if you talk to any pro out there, they will say they swear by their DeWalt/Milwaukee/Makita tools. This is mostly a result of the overall quality of the tool. While Ryobi will be great for me, it may not be great if you plan to use the tool day in and day out. For the pro build quality and longevity, you probably should opt for the pro level brands. Now, on to the review. Overall, the footprint/size of the tool generations is virtually the same. - The PBLDD01 (Drill/Driver) is just a few ounces heavier than the P252 (2lb, 12.7oz vs 2lb, 9.9oz). - The PBLID01 (Impact Driver) is a couple ounces lighter than the P239 (2lb, 5oz vs 2lb, 7.5oz). - Both tool generations are about the same size. The new Impact Driver is a shade shorter Both tool generations feature brushless motors, though they appear to be different as there is a slightly different sound between them. I'm not sure on if there is any improved efficiency here as Ryobi only advertises the improvement over their older brushed tools. The new PBLDD01 seems to have a better ventilation system. At max speed, you can feel the air hitting your hand. I have made the old P252 overheat once during a long session of drilling multiple long holes into a railroad tie, so hopefully this improves that. Both impact drivers are single speed, but the trigger is pretty sensitive and there is a noticeable change in speed with every move of the trigger. The drill has a similar trigger, but seems to max out speeds about 3/4 of the way pulled. I was able to test the drill for this review by using a paddle bit to put some holes into a tree stump I'm trying to help decompose a bit faster. Probably not the best use of a paddle bit, but they're 1/3 the cost of a 1+ inch auger drill bit, so that's what I used here...I found that I needed to use the high torque/lower speed gear switch (gear 1) because when the paddle bit dug in just a bit to actually make significant progress, the safety switch would trigger to stop the drill because it thinks it is about to twist your hand off (and at that speed, it might be right). On the lower speed setting, it wasn't as sensitive to that (it did twist my arm around once or twice). The torque definitely was needed once the paddle bit dug in and really started drilling, though, and the Ryobi had no problem getting it done. On a fully charged battery (2ah in this kit), I was able to get 5 holes drilled. I'm sure if you used a real drill bit for the job, it would last a bit longer. The paddle bit really put the torque of the drill to the test in this case, and likely burned the power much faster than a traditional bit would. The other major differences I notice are the change to the LED lights. The location at the base of the tools is still the same, but instead of a bare LED, a new lens is placed over it that helps diffuse the light a bit more. Overall, the light output isn't THAT different, though. The one thing that is missing from the new PBLDD01 and PBLID01 is the magnetic screw holder at the base of the drill and impact driver. I used this a decent amount, so I'm a bit disappointed to see it go. Also gone from the prior generation is the single bit holder that could hold onto a driver bit while not in use. I rarely used this personally since I inevitably need more than one bit for a job, so I'm less sad to see this go. The thing I like most about the new PBLDD01 drill is the chuck. It basically has a torque wrench built into it where once you tighten down on the bit you're using, it will click a couple of times to tell you it is tight. The silver silver color front of the chuck also spins freely from the chuck, which allows you to help guide the drill a bit with a second hand for more delicate tasks. Some driver bits have a sleeve built in to help with this, but it is nice to have it standard on the drill as well. Similarly, the biggest improvement in my opinion from the P239 Impact driver to the new PBLID01 impact driver in this kit is the chuck. On the P239, you had to pull out on the chuck both for loading and unloading a bit. On the new PBLID01, all you have to do to load a bit is push it in, and it will lock down. Only for unloading the bit, do you have to pull out on the chuck, which also pushes the bit loose as well (it can launch out on you, so be prepared to catch it). As for the batteries, the 2ah size is great for everyday tasks. If you do need to do a lot of drilling, then you might want to invest in a larger battery, or just be prepared to switch out and charge every so often. I do like that you can easily check the power level using the LED indicator on the battery. My other 2ah battery does not have this feature, so it's hard to tell how much power I have left.

Terrific cordless power and torque control. In the past, I've favored electric due to reliable power because we've had problems with batteries not holding a charge or becoming discontinued. After using these, I now prefer cordless. The kit included two batteries that were already charged to two-bars fresh out of the box. It took maybe 20 minutes to charge each to full four-bar level. Both tools are comfortable to use and having the charge level indicator on the batteries will be invaluable. The included bag is small but has plenty of room for both tools and adding bits/drills. I won't store the batteries or the charger in the bag, but there is room. Most of our bits are old but will work easily by inserting a magnetic holder that has the required "locking groove". The LED light was handy. Chose RYOBI because we'll be able to grow our collection and use the same batteries and have confidence the same battery will work in newer tools in a decade.

Lighter and more compact with longer run times compared to prior versions. The ONE+HP (High Performance) kit includes a ½ inch drill/driver, ¼ inch impact driver, two lithium ion 2.0 Ah batteries, 18-volt charger, and zippered carrying bag. Brushless motors combine reduced battery drain and adjustability to match task requirements. Rotation speed increases with trigger pull and brakes quickly with trigger release. Both tools have built-in LEDs to illuminate work area when the trigger is pulled. Unlike earlier models, these tools do not have a bit holding clip or magnetic tray for handy retention of bits and screws. Attachable bit holders and belt hooks are available as separate purchases. Batteries have LEDs to display charge level. The drill/driver has a gear ratio selector on top for choosing (1) low speed/high torque for driving screws or drilling metal or (2) high speed for drilling wood. The torque limit is adjustable by a rotating a ring with 24 positions; higher number = higher torque limit. Suggested settings for screw sizes and materials are listed in the instruction manual. The chuck is keyless for easy bit swapping. The impact driver delivers high torque for driving large screws and bolts. It is capable of driving 5-inch screws into a pressure-treated deck. The ¼ inch quick-connect collet enables convenient one-handed bit replacement. Operation is noisier than prior model. The reduced size and weight lessen arm fatigue, especially during prolonged tasks. It’s too soon to assess durability and reliability. Three years warranty on the tools and batteries but only 90 days on the charger, an accessory. Scan or save the receipt to provide proof of purchase date just in case. Made in China.

These new 18v Brushless tools are great! I've been a Ryobi 18v guy since the Blue and Orange. I like that Ryobi has increased the power, while reducing the weight. This drill & impact set comes with 2 batteries, plus a charger. You can never have too many batteries. This is my first time to get an Impact Driver (I'm behind, I know). I have 3 different versions of the 1/2" Drill (see pic). Old Blue still works, so it takes the dirty work while saving my other drill. That's about to change. I love the compact style of these new Ryobi tools. This new 1/2 drill has the metal chuck like the old corded drills had. It feels tough. Plus the power and torque is much more than 'old blue.' Weight distribution is better and rests comfortably in your hand. The bag that holds these two may become the resting place for my 'extras' - Old Blue and those heavy orange batteries. Lithium batteries has changed the game there as well. I do wish they had included the belt clip shown in the instruction pictures.
