Q:Are the hooks made of tempered steel? I'm concerned that if I have a bike right at 50 pounds the hooks may straighten out if left hoisted for a long time.

Answer This Question

A:  Yes, my bike has been hanging for over a year. No problem

by|May 5, 2023

A:  The hooks are not tempered. They are however very strong & hold any bicycle easily up to 55 lbs. The key to this lift is the hooks are not picking up the majority of the weight; leveraging the weight, distributed equally, between both spokes allows for an easy draw. The danger, if your bike is heavier than 50 lbs is—if you don’t attach the base of the lift in studs, you may find it coming down. You may want to use Drywall anchors that have a 75 lb. rating. The hooks will not straighten out.

Q:Can you mount the pulleys on two separate studs? The ceiling where I would like to put this hanger is not long enough to fit my bike, in the same direction as the ceiling joists. I would like to mount it perpendicular, but I am not sure if the pulley mounts can accommodate that.

A:  If the studs are not wide enough you might consider nailing or screwing a board to them to attach the pulleys. The front pulley is approx 5.5 in long x 2 in wide; the back pulley is approx 7 in long x 2 in wide. As long as the pulleys are in a straight line for handle bars & seat, it should not matter the direction.

A:  I had the same situation as you, so I got a length of 2x4 (slightly longer than the distance between the 2 pulley assemblies) and securely screwed that perpendicularly across multiple ceiling studs. I believe it crossed 3 or more studs. I used 3 1/2 or 4" screws to attach the 2x4. Then I mounted the pulley assemblies to this 2x4. An advantage to doing it this way was that I had a broader mounting surface (3 1/2 inches wide) for the pulleys, so I felt even more confident that it would work. It did..

A:  I installed 3/4” thick plywood panels which spanned 2 ceiling hoist for each bracket vs 1 joist per each bracket ... this allowed me the availability of positioning the bike unit where ever I needed They work effortlessly

          by|May 5, 2023

A:  Yes I did if that way

            by|May 5, 2023

A:  I mounted the pulleys on separate studs. It was necessary to raise my kayak (not being used for a bike) above other storage in my shed.

              by|May 5, 2023

A:  I put a 2x6 across the joists and mounted to that.

                by|May 5, 2023

A:  It doesn't look to me like they would work on different ceiling joists. You could mount the hangers on one long board and then mount that board to two different joists. That might be the way to go. Good luck.

Pretty straight forward install. I figured out that if your mount is going on separate joists because of placement there are screw holes for that also. Would recommend and buy again.

Works as expected. I knew the kids would grow into larger-framed bikes, so I set the pulley positions for adult bikes, making sure I had a good purchase-point at the seat and handlebars for the smaller bikes...then make sure to stop before they reached an extreme angle. All bikes are up, secure and stable. Plenty of rope for my 14' ceilings.

Didn't know what to do with my bike
I had the worst time deciding on where to store an expensive bike I purchased when I'm not using it. I live in Brooklyn NY and although we have bike parking stations all over, I didn't want to chance parking the bike on the side walk. The bike has no kick stand as it is a racing bike designed without a kickstand. I located an open area in one of the rooms of the apartment I live in and decided it would be a perfect location to mount the bike. The ceiling mount bike lift is exactly what was needed to do so. It was very easy to mount the two holsters, and run the cable that came with it. Once completed, the bike was very easy to lift and actually displays like a peace of art. I like the fact that the mount easily positions the bike and allows you to hoist the bike and position how high depending on where you decide to pull the cord left or right.

Installed three of these in my garage for the kids' bikes. They work like a charm and were easy to install once I found the studs. Loving the extra floor space we now have!

                          Easy to install
This was easy to install on the ceiling joists in my masonry garage. The roof is pitched, but the pulleys lined up just fine and self-leveled. The rope for the pulleys is ridiculously long, so I just cut off the excess.

Nice storage option, Not just for bikes
I purchased 2 of these to hang bicycles from the ceiling of our garage, with the hope that I could also rig them up to use for 2 kayaks we needed to hang. The weight limit is rated for 50 lbs, so I wasn't sure they'd be up to the challenge of hoisting our 52 lb kayaks. When the units arrived, I was pleased to see that the pulleys and hooks are solid and up to the challenge. The weak link is the automatic locking mechanism on the unit. It works great for bikes, but due to the angle that you need to pull on the rope to lower them, it was not set up well for a kayak. So I just rigged an additional pulley on the wall of our garage and mounted a cam cleat on the wall to hold the kayaks in place. For bike storage, the only issue I've had is when the hooks slid off the back of the seat, dropping the back of the bike. Fortunately, the hooks holding the handlebars held fast and the bike didn't hit the floor. Installation is straight forward. They main key is to either find a ceiling truss to bolt the pulleys directly to, or mount 2x4's to ceiling trusses and bolt the pulleys to the 2x4's.
