A:  I've had better luck with the 1/2 in. Barbed Couplings (4-Pack), Model #BC50/4PKS, Store SKU #524802. The trick is to place the tubing in a cup of hot water to soften it up before making the connection.

A:  In my experience, they are a one-use item.

      by|Jun 27, 2021

A:  No. They are not designed for removal once installed.

      by|Apr 12, 2021

A:  No. I've had better luck using the brown couplings with the barbed ends. Dip the hose in hot water to soften the plastic - they go on easier.

Q:How do you get these couplings off tubing

        Answer This Question

A:  A pipe can be pulled out by rotating it while pulling with great force. The fitting needs to be held firmly to avoid damaging other parts of the irrigation system.

        by|Oct 9, 2023

A:  These are not made to be removed. They are meant to provide a one time secure connection once inserted onto the tubing.

            1 found this answer helpful

A:  Cut the tubing. They are difficult, if not impossible, to reuse.

1/2 inch connectors without white tube inside
I purchased diffetent 1/2 inch connectors for a project, but I found out that the inside of these do not have white tubings inside in both ends as SHOWN at Home Depot website for each.

Barbed Coupling - Intend to remove in the future
RainBird or Dig compression coupling work fine if you intend "Not to remove in the future/not to reuse". If for any reason you want to replace your drip tubing that have these compression couplings; you will have very hard time to remove these compression coupling. My suggestion, use this RainBird model instead: "Model # BC50/4PKS" This model is easy to install and easy to reuse; all what you need to do to remove it, just make an outside slit with the blade and voila "comes off so easily".

Worked well with brown drip kine
I was worried about buying this product after reading all the negative reviews but there weren’t many options given the hurry that I was in. I was pleasantly surprised how well it worked. It took moderate effort to push it on the brown drip line but there were no leaks.

                  horrible do not buy
HD man said these are the new compression fittings. Horrible. 5 mins i got one end on the new hose, then after 30 mins of stressinng and straining no way was it going on the existing hose. Horrible. Horrible. Horrible. Had to cut this horrible new fitting off the new hose and use screw on fittings which leak but at least the 1/2” line is fixed at 105 degrees. HD you shouldn’t even sell these horrible couplings.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. Twisting the fitting on or softening the tip of the tubing by dipping it in warm water for a few minutes can help get the fitting on. You can contact Rain Bird at 1-800-RAIN-BIRD for further assistance.

I bought a 10 pack of these about 6 months ago. I find that even when I try to use them on piece of tubing out of the ground often they can not be forced onto the tubing. Much less when bent over a hole under a bush. Maybe I'm the only one, but I do not know if the leaking tubing buried in my yard is 0.63" or 0.700" or 0.710". I bought a 10 pack of "Store SKU #1001194633", on the bag it says "Fits all brands of 1/2" or 5/8" tubing (0.63"-0.710" O.D.)" I now see that the HD web site limits it to "Accepts any manufacturer’s O.D. tubing from 0.630" to 0.700". " Too bad they don't hang a sign on the bin stating this change. The cure is to use 1/2 in. Universal Nut-Lock Coupling "Store SO SKU #531677", they work beautifully every time. They are really Universal. Too bad it seems that most HD stores no longer carry them and I had to order them from the web. Which when you have a split waterline the week or so to get them is really a problem. But now I always keep at least a couple on hand. Do yourself a favor do not purchase "Store SKU #1001194633", instead get "Store SO SKU #531677".

I’ve installed 4-5 of them and it seems about 1/2 of them leak and will have to be replaced with a different type of coupler.
