Product Overview

This handy hole-punch reduces fatigue and simplifies insertion of drippers/emitters, 1/4" barbed couplings, and other barbed Drip devices into 1/2" Drip irrigation tubing. Sharp tip quickly creates the perfect size hole for secure, long-lasting connections. Constructed of tough polymer with a built-in stop to help avoid puncturing through both sides of tubing. Two usage tips: Applying a slight twisting action when puncturing holes will provide an even easier penetration. Attaching a lanyard through the hole and around your wrist puts tool right where you need it and helps prevent loss. Rain Bird "The Intelligent Use of Water"

Too Small Tool is Disappointing
This is a disappointing tool. It is all plastic. I thought the punch might be a harder material, but no. It requires excessive force to punch through poly drip tubing. You'll need a strong grip and young joints. It was hard on my hands, particularly my thumbs.

This item punches a hole as desired. It is so small, I know it’s going to get lost easily! I had not realized it was so small; I realize the size was probably listed in the description but I evidently skipped over that part.

    Too Small
I like every other drip irrigation tool that Rain Bird makes, except this. It is tiny! It doesn't even come up to the first knuckle on my thumb. If your hose offers even a little resistance, this tool is miserable. Do your hands a favor and get a larger one that you can push with the palm of your hand.

It does the job, and at a good price. Pretty straightforward: punch the tool's pointed end into tubing larger than 1/4 inch, and you have a perfectly sized hole to accept 1/4 inch irrigation fittings.
