A: The rainfall setting on the sensor determines the amount of rainfall needed to suspend the irrigation watering cycle. You can adjust the rainfall setting from 1/8" to 3/4". Adjustments are made by turning the sensor dial cap clockwise or counter clockwise. To set the rainfall setting, turn the sensor dial cap until the desired rainfall setting lines up with the arrow on the sensor body. The ideal rainfall setting for your location depends on soil type, wind, amount of direct sunlight the sensor receives as well as frequency and amount of rainfall. Within the instruction manual (https://images.thdstatic.com/catalog/pdfImages/80/809be120-b114-4454-b354-81fb088c70b6.pdf) there's a table that provides some guidelines to help determine the appropriate rainfall setting. A: Never could get it to work with my Rain Bird controller.
A: Remove the yellow jumper wire from the Rain Sensor terminals. Then connect both Rain Sensor wires to the terminals marked Rain Sensor. For best results, push down the square button above the wire port with a small screwdriver, place the wire in the port, then release the button, and the wire will snap into place. Hope that helps.
A: Hi Artie. In the wire bay of your SST400 Controller you should see a terminals to the left of "Common" titled "Rain Sensor." To connect the rain sensor, remove the yellow jumper wire from the controller’s "rain sensor" terminals. Then, connect the red and black lead wires from the rain sensor to the controller’s sensor terminals, and it doesn't matter which wire goes to each terminal. That's it. After installation, we recommend you test the sensor to ensure it's working correctly by turning the controller on to initiate irrigation. Hold down the plunger located on top of the rain sensor and the zone should turn off after a few seconds. If it does not turn off, check your rain sensor wire connections. Should you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact our technical support at 1-800-RAIN BIRD (800-724-6247) and we’d be more than happy to assist.
A: The sensor should work with any controller. It is a basic normally open switch with two wires. It is open until the rain causes the internal discs to swell and close the switch which will shut off the controller until the discs dry out and shrink and open the circuit.
A: Not sure, however it works with a HunterHydrawise 12 zone system. You have to set it to either Normally Open or Normally Closed in the configuration menu. My setting that works is NO and the status screen will tell you if the sensor is interfering with operating.if it is, then change to NC.
A: Many modern controllers (such as those from Rain Bird) include built-in terminals for rain sensor lead wires. Dedicated rain sensor terminals are usually labeled “sensor”, “SENS”, ”S” or “SN” on the controller’s terminal strip. If your current controller has these terminals, the Rain Bird RSD Sensor should be compatible. Once you have it connected, you should test the sensor to ensure it is working correctly. To test, turn the controller on to initiate irrigation. Then, hold the plunger down, which is located on top of the rain sensor, and the zone should turn off after a few seconds. If it does not turn off, check your rain sensor wire connections. If you would like additional help in setting up or operating the sensor, please feel free to contact our technical support at 1-800-RAIN BIRD (800-724-6247) and we’d be more than happy to assist.
A: 18 gauge wire is what I used
A: Yes the wire does come with the unit.
A: No connector. Just stripped bare wire ends
A: A two-strand wire connects to terminals in your controller that are secured with screws (maybe spring-loaded buttons in some models), similar to wiring speakers or a thermostat.
A: The Rain Bird RSD Series Rain Sensor comes with lead wires to be connected to your controller's terminal strip, making it an easy to install device that's suitable for 24VAC residential and commercial applications.
