Product Details

Get rid of large-size rats quickly and effectively with the Rat Zapper Classic Rat Trap. From set-up and use through cleaning and maintenance, each zap will be a snap thanks to the easy-to-use design. This electronic trap is equipped with smart circuit technology that senses when a rodent enters it. Once inside, the rat steps on the metal plates, which completes the circuit and delivers a humane, high-voltage shock. Since rats are able to restart their hearts, the shock is applied continuously for 2-minutes to ensure higher kill rates. Unlike standard rat traps, you don't have to touch or look at dead rodents. The rat is contained within the kill chamber, which hides it from sight, while the green indicator light lets you know when it's time to empty. After a kill, just tip the trap to discard the dead rodent into the trash without having to touch it. A red light will blink when battery power is low. Designed for indoor use or anywhere it won't be exposed to outdoor elements, the Rat Zapper Classic Rat Trap is perfect for placement in attics, garages, basements and sheds. The trap does not use any poisons or chemicals, but as with any electronic device, use with caution around children and pets. Note: An older version of this trap has a red indicator light for all alerts.

Q:What does it mean if the red light flashes 5 times after flashing red once. AND I think it flashed green after making 4 or 5 kills?

Answer This Question

A:  I have found that these traps do not function well for very long. The light blinking differently may not mean anything, or may mean the batteries are no longer viable. I have quit buying them. This makes me sad because the first one I bought caught 10 squirrels in one spring.

A:  Not100 percent sure. Check the chamber. Red light generally means a kill

A:  I don't think so. If they can fit into the trap it will kill them.

A:  Place the trap where the mice maneuvers especially in tight spots where he won't be able to jump over or around the trap.

A:  If you are sure it is dry outdoors, it could definitely be used.

A:  Yes, although the battery cover and the electronics cover are not designed to deflect moisture away from the innards. To be safe, I would probably cover the unit with plastic shrink wrap. Another issue is by-catch. I have more squirrels than rats and I don't want to harm them. So I set the traps in the tool shed and woodshed. alternative is to use bait that the other guys don't like ... e.g., bacon.

A:  For the trap’s sake, as long as it stays dry, it should be fine. However, for wildlife’s sake, PLEASE turn off first thing in the morning! (I failed to warn a friend and the first day she used it, it killed a bird, blue jay, I believe.)

A:  I have used rat zappers (I have two) for years in my garden to keep the mice from eating my vegetables. The zappers work great and are very easy to use. I like them because they are quick to set up, easy to reuse, and don't involve using poisons or spring traps. If you have pets or children, this is a great way to keep the rodent population under control while keeping your loved-ones safe. A little bit of peanut butter and batteries are all you need. They get zapped and you never have to touch them or even see them.

                          Don’t give up it works
So the battery hatch is hard to open and close. I had to use a butter knife so I didn’t rip off my fingernail. We didn’t catch anything for almost three weeks. But we read that if rats aren’t familiar with something new, in their environment they won’t trust it. So bated the trap with a small cracker with peanut butter. After two weeks we kind of “gave-up” forgot about it and wasn’t that motivated to catch them anymore. Well I’m checking the trap battery life randomly I noticed the batteries were dead and the bate was gone. So we immediately put new batteries in it and new bate. No joke, we got our first rat 4hrs later. Rebated the trap again and the next day we noticed the trap was tripped but no rat and the bate was gone. We figured out that the rat must have been bigger and able to reach the bate without stepping on the plate that shocks them. So instead we took a long spoon and put some peanut butter and nothing else on the back of the trap. That way it would have to sit there and lick it up and get comfortable. Again, not even four hours later we got another rat. And we were right she was bigger. Both were females. We rebated again but haven’t caught anything else just yet.

Easy to use. I used garden gloves during the process of unpacking the trap, adding the batteries and food, and placing the trap appropriately. There is a long metal plate at the front that surrounds a smaller plate near the covered rear grate. When you turn the device on the bright red LED on top shines brightly for a moment then dims to nothing, waiting for a visitor. If you see the LED blinking slowly you can assume something tripped a high voltage discharge. I got this because I saw a huge rat going after the few remaining dog food pellets in our dog Daisy's dish, and I didn't want to use regular snap traps because they are such a nasty hassle. I placed the Rat Zapper where I saw the rat come from. I dropped 2 small pellets of food to the back of the trap and a couple more outside the trap near the opening. I turned the trap on. When I checked about 20 minutes later the light was blinking slowly. Hmmm. Yup. Gloves. Big rat in box. Turn switch off. Carry box to big green trash pickup can. Dump rat. Noticed a drop of pee, otherwise the trap was clean. Wipe pee with paper towel. Repeat process. 20 minutes later? Junior visits the trap. No pee this time, just dump the mouse. See the picture!

Day one and I have one chipmunk killed already. Couple of peanuts leading it into the trap and ZAP! Feels a little flimsy so for the price, we will see. Like it at the moment!

                              Better than most typical traps
I have(had) a few chipmunks living under my back and front porches and expanded their territory to under my backyard shed. I pre-baited this trap with dried corn and gave the critters a fee meal for the first day. After that I armed the trap and in two days I had caught 3 of chipmunks. I'll probably get another of these to use in garage during the winter when the mice move in from the cold. Great product and easy to use. Just be aware that it is not waterproof and will need to be protected from the rain if used outdoors.

It was easy to assemble. I simply put the batteries in the machine and it worked.
