Love the dark colors and variations between all the different pieces of wood, however it is difficult to work with. The individual pieces of wood are varying sizes, which is goo, but some are really small and some are pretty beat up. They are glued to a mesh backing to create the panels. The trouble is that the mesh rips apart when you are handling the panels to cut and install them. I tried to be extra careful with them but continued to have issues with them. Maybe they need to rethink the mesh backing or try another solution. It would have been much less frustrating to just get a bundle of loose pieces of reclaimed wood and install them individually.

The wood tones vary from light blonde to black with a lot of red and brown tones in between. The wood appears milled for a smooth surface, however each piece of wood is a different type, size and thickness so the overall effect is more of that of stacked stone. There are also all types of holes, depressions, burn marks and other distressing, some of which allow visibility of the mesh backing on rare occasion, but this does not detract from the overall appearance of the product., but rather adds to its beauty. The back lays smoothly against the wall. The wood is attached in approx 12 by 24 inch patterns to a flexible soft mesh. Each 12 by 24 piece is lightweight and fits easily into the grooves of the next piece making installation quick and easy, particularly if you are covering a large area. One box is sufficient to make a nice headboard or a great piece of wall art. The company makes a large selection of various wood and stone patterns for just about any decor idea, both made for interior and exterior installation. This boat wood is made for an interior application only. There are ten pieces per box. The wood requires a few days of acclimation upon arrival. Installation tips included: Carpentry or wood installation tools must be used, wet saw usage is not recommended/Substrate wall looks best painted a dark color since it may be visible through the knot/nail holes. Cut the mesh from around the knot holes so it is not visible from the front of the application/ Recommends Bostic Climb,Bostic Set or equivalent adhesive for wood installation. Use small finishing nails for additional support. Personally, I prefer to use small woods screws or finishing nails for attachment. And as for using it as art, I intend to connect the pieces in some fashion, maybe to a thin piece of wood, to allow a hook or hooks to be used to hang it rather than apply it directly to my wall, and the same could be done for a headboard.. The attached photos reflect the wood still in its shrink wrap, as I have not decided which way I want to go with it as yet. Shipped promptly. They send a catalog of all of their products with pictures of applications.

Each individual panel has varying colors, sizes and heights of wood strips that create a distinctive pattern on the wall. At about nineteen dollars a square foot it is pricey so I am using it as part of refacing an all brick fireplace, above the mantle. The contrast of the red bricks against the reclaimed wood is rather striking and unique. Easy to cut to size and easy to apply to wall with good quality wood adhesive. This product will age gracefully with its unique finish.

Absolutely gorgeous wood pieces reclaimed from actual boats provides a unique and stunning look. I installed this product in my 1st floor powder room, creating an accent wall over the sink. The end result is amazing. The varying sizes, colors, and depths of the wood create a unique art installation. The weathering of the wood and slight remnants of the original paint colors on some of the pieces allude to the history behind each piece. My 3’ X 6’ area was handled by one box, which contains 20 sq ft worth of matierial. The prep to finish took about 6 hours total and I’d rate this as a 6 on a difficulty scale of 10. The wood comes arranged and affixed to 12” x 24” sections. The pieces are held together by a thin black fabric mesh material that isn’t nearly hardy enough to keep the pieces together while working with them. And that’s the only problem here...the mesh is so fragile that it falls apart while cutting and manipulating the wood. The project involved allowing the wood to adjust to the environment for a few day, priming and painting the wall black behind the wood. This is done because there are natural knots and spaces in the wood and having he black background is necessary for where you can see through it. You have to remove the mesh backing from those areas with a razor. From there, you start ripping the boards flush with the wall. The pieces fit perfectly with one another (for the most part), so you really just need to focus on the edges and cutouts. The good news is that if you do anything stupid, there are enough varying pieces that you can likely make up for it. I used a flat latex-based paint to cover the wall and Loc Tite Power Grab Express as my adhesive. A 7 1/4” rip saw, and a 19.2V Jigsaw and 5 1/2” rip saw were all used for various cuts. The process would be MUCH easier with stronger mesh backing, but it’s certainly not a deal breaker, especially if you have any kind of prior experience. I do highly recommend this product, given the spectacular end results. It’s pretty expensive and it looks like it. Check out the pictures for more info.
