will this work for propane?

Asked by: robert
Yes this will work for propane, but I always put two wraps of Teflon tape and then some of this on the male side of the pipe.

Asked by: Bob
I put this on PVC drain and water system and immediately put water through it and no problems. The only problem I had is the bottom of the tube blow and went all over the place.

1.75 oz. #5 Pipe Thread Sealant is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent thread sealant for brass fittings This sealant works as it should and is nice and thick to seal up those threads. I wrapped Teflon tape around the pipes and then added Rectorseal 5 just to add a second line of defense against sealing. It is more viscous like paste and it doesn’t drip or get all over the place. You can further apply the paste by spreading it with your fingers all around the thread and it is easily wiped off when cleaning. I use this to seal all brass connections, especially the one that fitted into the spout of my bathtub. It works as it should and the amount you get is more than enough for the repairs around the house.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I use this stuff all the time! Teflon tape addition or using it solo, it always did its job! only wish they would make it in other colors for esthetic reasons. Be sure to always nead your tube as in all tube based products, this is a method for stirring/mixing the content. Also, this allows you to find any holes or cracks that exist in the tube before you buy it. Not many choices out there for finding better, even works with PVC as a lubricant and allows easier back off. I've used it for many years and a handy tube stays fresh in my plumbing tool box for a very long time without drying up or leaking on its own. When in need, it's ready when you are!

I installed a new Rheem water heater and went a little too conservative on the Teflon tape. The cold water inlet and hot water exit pipes began slowly leaking immediately. I removed the fittings, cleaned off the old tape using a wire brush, and triple wrapped the Teflon tape around the nipples. I added a thick coating of Rectorseal # 5 as a second line of defense over the Teflon tape and reconnected the fittings. I wiped off the excess and waited an hour before I turned on the water and power. I turned on the water and no leaks! After four days there are still no leaks. It got the job done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than Teflon tape If you put this on your threads with a good coating you just won't get leaks. You also don't have to worry about which direction to apply tape, or occasionally having the tape rip and leak anyway. Works instantly, no drying also for use with gas piping - I have used it for my water heater gas as well

The product had separated in the tube, liquid poured out first and after a small amount of paste came through. I let some air out and kneaded the contents but they didn't mix correctly. This simple task became a total mess, so I squeezed out half of the tube on a paper plate and using a cotton swab applied it to the fittings. After I needed to lacquer thinner to get the gunk off my hands.

Rectorseal #5 in all variants is expressly NOT advised at all for PVC, ie plastic plumbing pipe use. It is a modified oil base which is probably going to seep into the plastic over time. Go to their website and see that the T+2 sealant which HD does not sell, of course, is the best sealant for plastic pipe threads. True Blue may work, but is apparently a drying threadlock type of material rather than a non-drying type most want for general plumbing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No good While squeezing, the bottom of tube split open. I was unaware at first and the product spilled onto floor and clothing. What a mess. Had to discard after first use as tube was ruined.
