Can I get a 4amp battery and it's charger for the 120-volt Redback cordless chainsaw?
Asked by: Xavier
The 3Ah battery is more available. HD lists a 4Ah battery as "out of stock". My experience with Redback batteries is to buy an extended warranty. You may need it.

I purchased this saw a year ago, and have cut about 2 cords of hardwood (mostly a 32" ash tree - thanks emerald ash borer). I love the saw and would never want to go back to my gas-powered one. BUT the weakness with this brand are the batteries and charger. Because I don't want to stop when working, I purchased a 2nd battery (3Ah). Since then, I have had to warranty replace the 3Ah battery twice and the 2Ah battery once. No hassles about replacement, but the down-time is a pain. My advice is that if you plan to do serious cutting, purchase an extended warranty and make sure that it covers the battery. My spouse has a 14" saw from a different company and its 40V battery and charger seem much better designed, but for an 18" bar, there aren't many choices.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Chainsaw for my city yard I just received my electric cordless chainsaw and wasn't sure what to expect. I used the gas powered chainsaws when I lived in the northeast and had a wood burning stove so I am familiar with chainsaws. I no longer have a wood burning stove, but my yard does have trees that could use some "touch-ups" from time to time. I put the chain on which took me a bit of time since I seemed to be a bit uncoordinated that day but I got it done. I had to go purchase some chain oil so it took an extra two days before I could try this out. This chainsaw is lighter than the gas powered ones, less noisy, and I think easier to handle. I like the safety feature of the chainsaw shutting down when there is a kickback, safety is always a priority when using any powered tools. It was very easy to cut down a branch from one of my trees. This is the perfect chainsaw for my use and is easy to handle. There is enough power to handle any job I would tackle on my property. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

The first thing I did was cut down an eighty foot tall, twenty inch diameter madrone; and then cut into splitting lengths. It worked like a charm, with plenty of power. The battery lasted about half an hour. Recharging took an hour and fifteen minutes. While it charged I stacked the wood and threw the brush in a pile and took a break. Once the battery was recharged, I continued and again, the battery lasted about half an hour. Based on what I was cutting, that seemed more than adequate. I’d be tempted to buy an extra battery to lessen down time but then again, it is nice to have a break. If I had a complaint, its that the saw is a bit heavy but, I could use the exercise. I am more than satisfied with this product.

I am an experienced user of gas and corded, electric chainsaws. I have also used a 40V battery chainsaw for several years. In general, the better quality, battery powered chainsaws offer several convenience features: no fuel to buy, mix, store, or dispose of; no ethanol concerns; no flooding; no carbs to adjust; no air filters, fuel filters, or spark plugs to replace. Just pull the trigger and cut. These saws are also much quieter than gas models, and can be safely stored inside. The Lithium Ion batteries keep their charge for a long time between uses. This 120 V model takes power to a new level, comparable to a 40 to 45cc gas saw. I buried the entire 18 inch bar in silver maple, and had to really lean on it to get it to slow down at all (a gas saw would also do this). Cut through some 12 inch ash with no problem. Cut through a face cord of maple with one, 2 Amp hour battery. Have cut down several trees (ash, birch, red pine, etc.) with it, and it had adequate power. I like the rapid charger. Overall, the saw feels well made and well finished. Keep the chain sharp, and don't forget to check the bar oil. My initial impressions are very positive, I will know more with extended use.

I TELL YOU WHAT IVE USED GAS CHAINSAWS, BUT THIS "EXCUSE THE EXPRESSION" CORDLESS CHAIN SAW" IS A "BAD BOY" IT CUTS THROUGH TREES LIKE BUTTER THE CHARGE LAST FOR A SOLID HOUR AND ONLY TAKES MINUTES TO RECHARGE. IT TOOK 5 MINUTES TO ASSEMBLE, CHARGER AND BATTERY COME WITH IT. INSTRUCTIONS WERE CLEAR AND PRECISE. IVE ONLY HAD IT FOR 2 DAYS AND WHAT A BUY. 2 OF MY NEIGHBORS ARE GOING TO ORDER ONE. AT 72YRS OLD DONT NEED TO BE PULLING ON A CORD. TO THE MAKER OF THIS SAW THANK YOU SO MUCH.

It turned out to be a quality item that cuts through large tree limbs with ease. The best part? No screaming noise. Although the box it came in described variable speeds and a 2 Ah charger, they were not part of the chain saw. Mine came as a single speed, fast, and has a 2Ah battery. It uses a common chain size, so replacements are at any chain saw retailer. The easy chain adjustment works as described. It IS a bit on the heavy side, but commensurate with the mid-sized gas chain saws. First cutting, the battery lasted 1/2 hour. I put the battery on the charger and then picked up the logs and stacked them. The battery was charged and ready to go again. I would buy it again.

So nice not deal with gas and pull starting and it cuts as good as a gas saw. I don't know how long the saw will last but seems to be very well built. Happy with saw worth the cost of saw.
