The whip is 3/4" plastic liquid-tight. I think the wire is THN. It should be 1" liquid-tight minimum to fit the wires. I had to tightly wrap the wires with electrical tape to make a whip just to fit the wires through the liquid-tight.

If you are thinking about setting up a "transfer switch" for hooking your generator into you house wiring system, this is the way to go. With this one box you don't need to buy anything else, except mounting screws and 6 wire nuts. Follow easy to understand instructions or hire an electrician to do it for you. Once it is hooked up all you need to do is run a special extension cord from the box to your generator, start the generator and flip the switches for each circuit you want to run off the genny. Note that this box is not hefty enough (and I doubt your genny is either) to run central AC, dryer, over, stove top etc. For that you need a whole-house system that runs off your natural gas line and is MUCH more expensive. A helpful tip: Run the wires from the box (there are 14 of them) through the conduit BEFORE you mount the box. Do this with the conduit mounted to the box but not your breaker panel. The fit is very tight and it is important that the wires be inserted as a cohesive bundle with each wire running parallel to the others with no twist or criss-cross of any wires. Once you have the wires protruding from the open end of the conduit, mount the box and thread the wires into your breaker panel.

I installed this unit and had my work checked by a licensed electrician. When I used it first time it feted several of my appliances and furnace controls. The unit was determined to be faulty by the electrician and I sent it back.

Worked out great for my 5500 generator. I would say one thing and this all depends on what you are trying to supply so do your homework:What do I need to supply?Figure out how many breakers/switches I need? How big is my generator?Once you figured out all you need and want this will be simple and the actual transfer switch box is very easy & simple to do. Just figure out what you need I kept mine simple lights & receptacles (living room, kitchen, master and 3 bathrooms) includes my computer area, both refrigerators, stove & microwave. Also make sure you balance your watts/loads on the switch.
